Devlog #4 – Spotlight on Alric, Commander of the Vanguard
Greetings Survivors!
In our last devlog, we explained the reasons behind the change in Tri Survive’s art direction and the significance of this shift for both gameplay and the story. Today, we are excited to share new information about one of the main characters you will control during your adventure!
The spotlight is all on Alric, brave Commander of the Vanguard and one of the core heroes of Tri Survive.
Who is Alric? An introduction to the Commander of the Vanguard
Alric's backstory and motives are strictly tied to the narrative of Tri Survive. His values, his grief, and his will to unite the fractured kingdoms are some of the pivotal points of the story.
Alric is the elder son of the fallen king. During the demon invasion, he stepped into his father's role at a time when the royal guard was in disarray. Alric courageously led them into battle against their fierce enemy to protect their land.
Beneath his heavy armor, the proud prince carries the weight of personal loss and uncertainty. Not only must he cope with his father’s death, but he is also tormented by the mysterious disappearance of his younger brother, Prince Lucien. Alric is not just fighting for his kingdom, he is also seeking the truth about what happened to his family.
What changed in Alric’s visuals
During Tri Survive’s art rework, Alric's model underwent a rehaul to better display his character and to provide better clarity even during gameplay.
Now the paladin’s armor appears to be bulkier and with sharper, better-defined features that highlight his figure better on the battlefield. The development team also applied several adjustments to Alric’s anatomy and armor details, most notably his helm. The changes had the goal of making the paladin stand out and emanate the royal and proud aura that distinguishes his character from the rest of the party. One of the most defining features of Alric is his bravery and leadership, and we had to make sure that every player could see that just by taking a glance at the royal son.
Alric’s gameplay explained
Expect a frontline aggro-machine ready to take all the big hits for your party and hold the enemies while the DPS decimate the horde of demons coming at you.
Alric’s arsenal is straightforward to learn: his Divine Whirlwind draws enemy aggro, and his immunities and defensives let him easily survive oncoming attacks. The paladin's strength lies in his ability to hold chokepoints and control potential flanks,by using cleave skills and explosion chains abilities to control the incoming horde of enemies.
Compared to the other playable tanks in Tri Survive, Alric’s gameplay is not based around stuns or slow effects. He is all about leading the charge and holding the frontline, while you can use your DPS abilities.
