Masterful, unique Metroidvania Rain World is back with a brand new DLC

Absent news on Hollow Knight Silksong, another of the most fabled Metroidvania games on PC has a new expansion that you can play right now. Rain World exists in that special breed of games that, like Team Cherry's beloved platformer and Billy Basso's 2024 Animal Well, pulls enthusiasts out of the woodwork at a mere mention to see whether you've 'got it' yet. Now, a year after it was first unveiled, new Rain World DLC The Watcher has arrived, and you can grab both it and the base game cheap in a Steam sale if you're fast.

Rain World: The Watcher - Patch Notes

Hey Slugcats,

[h2]We released a new patch which fixes 16:10 resolution, frequent crashes when visiting gate rooms, updated BepInEx, and more![/h2]

Read below for the full patch notes. Note there will be spoilers.!

Fix the game graphics being visually broken when playing in 16:10 resolution
Fix a frequent crash when visiting gate rooms
Update BepInEx to 64-bit to fix issues with loading code mods
Watcher is no longer selectable in Safari mode
Watcher is no longer selectable in Jolly Coop mode
Fix Unfortunate Evolution warp point being broken
Fix players sometimes getting permanently held inside a warp point, causing an infinite warp back and forth
Players no longer lose their grip on Sky Whale whiskers when they change directions
Fix bug that prevented viewing region maps on the warp map after starving yourself in a shelter
Fix wind blowing the player to their death when taking the Badlands to Cold Storage warp
Some softlock prevention in Torrid Desert out of bounds
Fix errant tentacle in Station Annex clipping through the wall and grabbing the player from out of bounds
Fix room image glitching out after traveling through the Outer Rim warp from the Daemon area
Fix warp point on right side of Outer Rim warping the player inside of a wall
Reduce number of Tardigrades in Rusted Wreck

[h3]Mods before The Watcher[/h3]
Most community mods from the workshop will be incompatible with The Watcher DLC at launch. I would strongly recommend you unsubscribe from the community mods and do a full reinstall of Rain World by deleting, moving, or renaming the Rain World folder typically located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rain World. Then verify the files through Steam.

You may also need to remove your Rain World saves. Your saves should be located in C:\Users\[[YOUR_USER]]\AppData\LocalLow\Videocult\Rain World. Change [[YOUR_USER]] to your username on your PC.

The files will be named "sav", "sav2", or "sav3" depending on which save slot it is used.

[h3]Additional Workshop Tags[/h3]
To help out with filtering through the mods and to give modders access to better communicate with their mods, I have added a “Compatible With” section where you can add which part of Rain World and DLCs your mod works with. The tags are “Base”, “Downpour”, and “Watcher”.

We are trying something different for bug reporting so please be patient with us! If you run into any bugs while playing The Watcher, then please report them here so we can better track the reports.

We are only a few weeks away from the launch of Rain World: The Watcher on PC! I want to share a message from James on The Watcher.

"Hello @RW News! This is James from Videocult bringing you good tidings. Right now we are hard at work finishing up development on The Watcher and literally cannot wait for you to explore this new world. I'm not exaggerating in the slightest when I say that we are bringing Rain World somewhere entirely new. On March 28th Rain World: The Watcher will release on PC. But that will not be the whole story. We have multiple updates planned, and the final arc of the Watcher will conclude with the console release, at a date TBD.We will be going on this new journey together, so stay tuned for more details as they develop!"
