Primal Carnage: Extinction News

Update 1.11 Now Available!

It's been a long time coming, but a new update for Primal Carnage: Extinction has been released!
Let's dig in, shall we?

COMMUNITY MAPS OFFICIALLY ADDED

This update introduces three brand new community-created maps, polished up for everyone to enjoy. From eerie abandoned facilities to far flung deserts, feast your eyes on the new locations being added:
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Sandstorm Valley by ArchShiranui & Sovicka is a giant canyon of rolling dunes with strong winds. We also have two maps by Chozobird; Desertion Point is a facility hidden deep inside an autumnal forest, and then there's Forgotten World- a mysterious Freeroam map featuring death elevators and custom music.

We're incredibly proud of the talent, time and effort put into these, and are happy to finally allow everyone to enjoy them as official maps.

NOTE: If you have subscribed to the Workshop versions of these maps previously, you will need to unsubscribe from them or you will not be able to join servers running the official versions. Click for details.

CAPTURE MORE EGGS!

If you forgot about this mode, we forgive you. For the longest time, Capture The Egg has gone unloved with only a single map to play it on. As of this update, we've expanded the mode to several more levels including: Utility Base, Docks, Forest Chasm and Forgotten Outpost. Egg distribution varies between maps, some being quick jaunts back and forth, others having longer treks to retrieve your yolky prize.

As a refresher, CTE works like this:

Red & blue team take turns capturing as mercs, while dinos resist them. Different nest types hold eggs of varying value, with the rarest red eggs furthest away. The team with the most egg capture points after two rounds wins. We've made it much easier to tell nest types apart now, and there's greater EXP rewards for killing egg robbers or capturing eggs.

EXPANDED & EVOLVING EXTINCTION STORE

The in-game store has also been updated, and will now rotate through different items every week!
This week is Tyrant Week, so right now there's a collection of new Acro, Rex and Spino skins featured.

Class-themed bundles have been added as well (each holding 4 new skins). We'll be rotating through all of the classes over time, so don't worry if you miss this round.. your favourite class will be spotlighted again later. Check back regularly to see new items!

You can also find new dino taunts in-store, including a couple by our talented player Waddigator. In total there's over 80 new items available right now, including over 20 free drop skins outside of the store.

GAMEPLAY UPDATES

After two months of playesting and refining PCE's game balance, we hope the changes we've made based on Open Testing feedback will make gameplay fairer and more enjoyable.

Chief among these is a fearsome boost to Tyrant health & stamina, giving low-skill players a better chance at using them. This means in the right hands Tyrants will be a serious threat, not just annoying. But like all dinosaurs, they're weak to headshot damage. Skilled mercs can still solo Tyrants if they have good aim, just watch your ammo.

And don't try netting them in the butt.

As for humans, we've fixed issues with their weapon damage and stamina, but the biggest change is the removal of resupply crates from Team Deathmatch. To get players moving around more, health & ammo crates have now been replaced by respawning pickup items.

Ammo pickups award two reloads of primary & secondary ammo, plus a single throwable. Health pickups will restore about half your health. On average these items respawn once a minute. They are also more numerous and spread out to more diverse locations than the old crates were. From what we've observed, this change makes Team Deathmatch more engaging and reduces the likelihood of humans camping.

Would you like to know more?

We have dozens of other balance adjustments in this update, from adding headshot bonuses for firearms to increasing Dilophosaurus bite potency. Check the full patch notes for more details on these and all the other fixes and tweaks we've made!

With all of that out of the way, we hope you have fun with our latest fashionably late update.
And whether you're here to kill or chill, thank you all for playing.

We're Back! (Soon)

That's right! We aren't extinct!

It's been 65 million years since the last Primal Carnage: Extinction update, and we're back to tell you about some of what's coming next...

New Community Maps

We've seen a lot of great fan-made maps on the Workshop, but unfortunately playing them right now is difficult. We're taking a few of our favourites and implementing them directly into the game proper, working with the creators to make improvements and smooth out the rough edges.

Better Gamemode Support

Currently there's a lack of map support for Capture the Egg, which will be getting some improvements. We're also making it so that more maps will be properly usable in FreeRoam mode, such as the Get to the Chopper levels.

Quality of Life Improvements

From fixing a lot of pesky bugs and various annoying gameplay issues, to FINALLY GETTING THE MAIN MENU OUT OF CHRISTMAS MODE, we're working to eliminate a lot of problems that have been lingering around for a while.

Items, Items, Items!

There may be a new skin in the game. Maybe two(!) if people want them badly enough.
We'll think about it.

More to Come..

That's just some of the things we're currently working on.
Stay tuned for more information!

Retiring Crates Keys from Primal Carnage: Extinction

In recent times, there has been a shift in legislation and legal rulings around the world regarding the application of gambling laws in regards to loot crates in games. In order to remain compliant with various country's legislation and ensure that Primal Carnage Extinction remains available in all countries, we have decided to retire Crates and Keys by July 31.

What does this change mean for you?
After July 31, Keys will no longer be purchasable, tradable or marketable. Any keys that you have in your inventory at that point will remain there - we will never remove any items from you. There will be no other way to open any remaining crates, however they will remain craftable into Common items using our in-game crafting system.

We have decided to announce this in advance to give players an opportunity to open crates they still have in their inventory. We felt it would be unfair to our player base to make this change immediately and without warning.

We want to continue supporting our community content creators, and are exploring options for ways that we can distribute new content in the future. Of course, we are always interested in the thoughts and suggestions of our players for future features.

We hope this change ensures continuing compliance with international legislation and allows Primal Carnage Extinction to be enjoyed in every region.

Update 1.9 and 1.9.1 Now Available

New updates to Primal Carnage: Extinction have been released! These updates will be applied automatically when you restart Steam or next launch the game. The major changes include:

Challenge System

We have added a new Challenge System which assigns you 3 random challenges per week. Completing challenges will reward you with a random cosmetic item.

Challenge progress and items unlocked by completing them will now be displayed at the end of each round on a new info screen. Holding the Tab key will swap to displaying the scoreboard. Over the next few updates we're going to look at expanding this system with exciting new challenges and rewards.

WARNING: Challenge progress is only updated and saved at the end of every round. Leave early, and you will lose any unsaved progress. Challenges are only valid in TDM & GTTC modes.

Human Voice Commands

Humans now have two voice commands at their disposal: Call For Help (Z) and Call To Follow (C). Both commands have a 5 second cooldown to prevent abuse and also display the command as an event in the player chat.

Server Support for Custom Maps

Servers can now host player-created custom maps. If a server is hosting a custom map, players must subscribe to that map on the Workshop before being able to join it. Future updates will bring enhanced functionality to this new feature.

Dedicated servers subscribe to Workshop maps by adding something like this to DefaultGame.ini:

[Workshop.WorkshopInformation]
+SubscribedItems="672162366"

Each +SubscribedItem id number is taken from the workshop map's URL.
