Localization Frameworks, News, and Minor Fixes

[p]Hello everyone! [/p]
Framework for Localization
[p]Now, you won't be able to see this change very much, but under the hood, every change necessary for localizing the game has been made to all the in-game systems. It was the first time I ever worked with such a thing, so I had some learning to do, but I'm glad the systems provided were robust and convenient to work with! I'll definitely try to do this work before or early in the release in future if possible.[/p][p]Currently, we have two translations that are planned for the immediate future. On a first-contact basis of the translators who reached out to us, those will be Japanese and Chinese. I'll be working together with those translators and try to release a high quality localization when possible.

[/p][p](Only one language available so far, of course.)[/p][p]I do want to see if it's possible to translate the game into other languages, but as of right now, the only translators I have directly met with are a French translator and the two above. If they are successful enough to afford more translations, I will try to reach out to others in other large language groups.[/p][p]That's all for now on that though. [/p]
Minor Fixes
[p]Along with creating the framework, I did make a few other changes:[/p]
 • [p]The loading screen for starting a new game was made more subtle to preserve the original vision of the intro scene.[/p]
 • [p]A few attacks had minor readjustments made visually.[/p]
 • [p]A UI bug when getting specifically 10 turns of buff duration (no more, no less) was fixed.[/p]
 • [p]Some small changes were made to the extras menu for the Chapter/Battle select, to require fighting the final boss in the main story in order to re-challenge them in the Battle select menu.[/p]
Bug Reports
[p]As always, [/p][p]Please submit any bugs you witness, especially if you notice specific UI errors as of the localization framework's addition, to this discussion board:[/p][p]https://steamcommunity.com/app/3218680/discussions/0/598527550147298302/[/p][p]Thank you for your patience and support.[/p]

Loading Screens, Lag, And Fixes
Loading Screens and Battle Lag
So, it was brought more to my attention that occasionally, some moves would "lag" the very first time they're used. I realized in testing that there was a problem with the method in which resources were loaded and cached, and I have fixed it.

To add further on this, for the first major loading screen (that is, upon starting/loading a new game, not every single one between areas), there will now be a proper loading screen graphic to convey the loading progress, and that it might take slightly longer than others.

This should remove all lag during fights in the main story, and in my experience this loading screen only seems to take 1-2 seconds at most.
Fixes
This patch fixes a few small visual glitches in some battles.
In addition, it was reported to me that the Red Frog battle may, in some very fringe cases, lead to freezing (Ironically).

Neither I nor the initial reporter could reproduce this error, but I made sure to rework the likely source just in case, so it hopefully will not occur anymore.

Controller and Joystick Improvements, Blackscreens Fix
Controller and Joystick Improvements
[p]Hello everyone! I was informed that the controller support I had added had a few issues in terms of joystick usage. I had mostly tested the D-Pad for precision, so I wasn't aware of some of these, and this update should patch notably:
- Overworld movement on Cirno should be significantly smoother with the joystick.
- The joystick will no longer be extremely slippery on the menus.

I was much happier with the state of the controller after this update, and found a few other general optimizations in menu control as well as for battle menus, so I hope you shall all enjoy it more in future.

(Addition - Some Battle replay blackscreens were fixed in a small post-update addendum several hours after this announcement)[/p][p] [/p]
Bug Reports
[p]Please submit any bugs you come across to this discussion board:

New Features, Summer Sale, and Soundtrack News/Future Plans

[p]Hello, this is the first non-bugfix update for Touhou: Fearless Frogslayer. I hope you enjoy the new additions![/p]
New Feature - Battle and Chapter Menu
[p]So, quite a few people liked the battles and some specific elements of the game a lot, but obviously were hindered by the simplistic save system which would require inconveniently playing through the entire game again to replay a cool battle or get a certain achievement.[/p][p]In this update, the Options button in the title screen has become Extras, which now contains options inside it, and now, if you have finished the game, two new menus will unlock![/p][p](This menu may also be used for future features, if any are added.)[/p]
Battle Menu
[p]The battle menu allows you to replay any battle in the game from the convenience of the menu, and if you hold down Shift (Or the controller bumpers), you can skip any dialogue in the battles, as you've already read them by having finished the game. This should give players the ability to experience any battle they've wanted to retry without having to replay the entire game to do so, or show something cool off to their friends, without the inconvenience of all the replayed content.[/p]
Chapter Menu
[p]Alongside the new battle features, you can now access any point in the game from the main menu as well, as long as you have completed the game. This will make anyone wanting to hunt for achievements they missed have a much easier and less tedious time tracking through the game again, even if it is rather short overall.[/p][p][/p][p]Both of these menus also allow you to see the frog book drawings and save screen drawings conveniently, now with something added for the final boss as well...[/p][p][/p]
Summer Sale
[p]A more minor element obviously, the game is now on its first sale!!
I hope that many people will want to check out Touhou: Fearless Frogslayer, and enjoy the game that we have worked on.[/p][p]The sale will be running from 10AM Pacific Time today (26/06) until the 10th of July, two weeks later.[/p][p][/p]
Future News
[p]So, as this is my first significant non-bugfix update, I would like to share some future plans with you all!![/p]
Soundtrack
[p]Firstly, I want to address the soundtrack, which I mentioned on my X/Twitter account (link embedded at the bottom of the page) would be released at some point after the game was first released. [/p][p]Unfortunately, the composer's device had a fatal error in the process of uploading the soundtrack, so there was a rather big delay. Luckily, due to smart storage procedures, nothing has been lost in terms of sound files, but we can't upload it for this update as previously intended.[/p][p]If you'd like to wishlist the soundtrack, you can find it here: [dynamiclink][/dynamiclink]The soundtrack will likely be ready at some point in July or August, so thank you for your patience.[/p]
Translations
[p]While I technically cannot prove just yet that I'll actually be able to afford to translate the game, I have received many requests for it in some languages (e.g. Chinese, Portuguese), so I still wish to work towards that in the hope that it'll be possible to pull off. In the next few months I'll be creating a system to collaborate with people who have offered translations in past, and to test whether or not it is possible for the game's resolution to handle different scripts (Cyrilic, Kanji, etc.). (Note: I have not guaranteed yet that the game CAN handle these scripts, so I apologize if it ends up being impossible for certain languages.)[/p][p][/p][p]Anyways, that's all for today. Thank you to everyone who bought and played the game, as well as the many people who wishlisted and supported it!! I hope to make the game the best it can be, and then move onto even better projects in future!
Goodbye![/p]

Native Controller Support
Controller Support
Hello everyone, as of this update, I fixed a problem that was disabling controller support from functioning correctly. The game should now have partial support for most standard controller types. Currently, the only FULL support is for controllers that utilize the Xbox standard layout (Wherein the A-button is at the bottom).

Other controllers such as Sony and Nintendo models should still work, but you'll have to simply use their respective bottom and right buttons rather than the A/B prompts provided by the in-game controller annotations.

If you have any issues with playing using a controller, please notify me here:
