The Magnificent Seven, Part 1

Howdy Strangers,

it is time again to sit at the campfire, listen to your most burning questions about Wild West Pioneers and give you the answers.

In fact, there were so many decent questions from you good folks, that we need to split it up into two parts.

So, if your question isn’t answered today, there is no need to worry - it will be soon.
How deep are the mayor and sheriff mechanics? Can they actively influence city development, or are they more passive bonuses?
Right now, it's a more passive bonus but this can change during the early access phase. Nonetheless you have to carefully choose who you put in charge, since their passive bonuses can bring distinctive perks that can help you with governing the city.
How dynamic is the population? For example, could there be mass emigration if living conditions are poor?
It will be dynamic in a sense that what you offer for your denizens will influence the growth of your town – or the decline, if you fail to satisfy your people’s needs. Mass emigration of citizens, however, is not what we are aiming for.
How much freedom do you have in urban design? For example, can you create your own road networks, or are there fixed building sites?
You are free to decide where to place your buildings. The only requirement: It just has to make sense. E.g. a shop far away from the city center will not be effective, because then the citizens would have to walk long distances to go shopping. You can connect buildings with roads to speed up transportation, but some buildings require a certain area. A hunting lodge must be built near an area where there is enough game.
Is there competition from NPC settlements or do you have the area to yourself?
You will definitely encounter various NPCs during exploration, and you’ll need to manage relationships. You can be attacked, but other groups/settlements won’t operate under the same mechanics as the player’s cities.
How important is the railway in the game? Can you lay your own tracks or are they generated automatically?
The railway will be important towards the late game, and you can connect far away outpost by rails. We are working on a road/rail system that could allow you to lay your own tracks but that is not set in stone and definitely not yet worth going into detail.
How lively do the settlements seem? Do characters have their own daily routines, or are they more static workers?
We’re currently working on settler behaviors and animations within buildings as part of their daily routines, which may change from day to night. Our goal is to make it as immersive as we can.
Are there random events or challenges that make settlement life unpredictable, such as bandit raids, droughts, or conflicts with other settlements?
Yes. We have a few already in place and are adding more over the course of development as well as in the Early Access phase.

That’s all folks! At least for today. But we’ll be back.
