Settling down in a new country is always challenging. Even more so as a pioneer in the American frontier in the 19th century.
In order to not only get by, but thrive in this challenging environment, the settlers have to adapt, cooperate and persevere. It is this resilience that laid the foundation to the Western expansion of America and proved that a sense of community and sheer determination can conquer even the toughest challenges.

Wild West Pioneers is trying to capture this spirit when it puts you in charge of building up multiple settlements and taking care of the people’s needs. With families living miles away from other towns, sometimes literally in the middle of nowhere, trade and medical care are nearly impossible.

So, you and your pioneers need to become self-sufficient. A vital part of this is the smart planning of what we call production lines. Because it is not enough to place a hunting lodge near a forest with game, sit back and hope for the best.



If everybody in the settlement is to thrive and benefit from the hard work that the hunters put in, you need to make sure that the production or value chain is optimized. Meaning that the maximum distance between the hunting lodge, the butcher and the warehouse is not too big. Or between the lumberjacks, the lumber mill and the storage facilities.

You can compensate for bigger distances with paths and roads, on which the transport of products or resources will be significantly faster.

In the end you build your towns how you see fit, though. We will not hold you back.
But if people have to walk too long before they can reach their workplace or need to cross half the map to get some food from the store, they might consider relocating to a place, where they feel better taken care of.

So, when you start building, think not only of your bank balance, but also about the happiness of the settlers who decide to trust you with their livelihood.
Keep in mind, that without them, you are governing ghost towns…
