Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic remake release left in limbo by Saber Interactive sale

This week's announcement that Embracer are selling off Saber Interactive to new company Beacon Interactive has cast further doubt over the future of one of Embracer's bigger projects, the much-delayed Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic remake. While Embracer have yet to actually state this out loud, it sounds like the KOTOR remake will be a "joint project" between Saber and Embracer. It also probably won't be out in the next 12 months. Given the project's repeated disruptions and delays, I suspect many of us will settle for the game coming out at all.

The Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake exists in a bizarre limbo state at the moment. According to some sources, the new version of BioWare's classic RPG game is finished, over, never going to see the light of day. According to others, the KOTOR remake might be troubled, and going through a patch of development hell, but it's still alive, and in the works. One of the greatest Star Wars games ever, a return of Knights of the Old Republic would be very welcome indeed. With Star Wars Eclipse also in the works, one Disney executive comments on the new KOTOR.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake feels like one of those quasi mythical PC gaming projects that could end up in the ether for years to come. Earlier this year, the KOTOR remake was presumed canceled after mentions of it disappeared from various official websites. This proved to be false, and the remake of one of the greatest Star Wars games ever was confirmed to be still in development, or at least, not completely canceled. Now, in the last few days, new reports have surfaced claiming Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake is finished for good - but apparently this might not be true either.
