Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic remake delayed indefinitely

The Force isn’t strong with the remake of classic RPG Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic, which has been delayed indefinitely following a badly received demo shown internally at the end of June. Bloomberg reports that the game’s design director and art director were subsequently fired from developers Aspyr Media during the week after the demo was finalised. Sources from Aspyr told Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier that the game had been intended for a 2022 release, but that 2025 was more "realistic".

This player did a glitchless KOTOR speedrun in under 2 hours

Statement: a player has broken the KOTOR speedrun world record with a time of under two hours, which was an Any% run without any glitches or mind tricks used - so, they just played through one of the best Star Wars games on PC and managed to complete it in less time than most of us spent on Taris alone.

It's one of the best RPGs on PC, and with the upcoming Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake still on the far horizon, we can understand fans wanting to play the original game. However, others are using the time to speedrun Bioware's massive space game, and these runners are now managing to complete KOTOR in under two hours.

The current world record holder is Seraphim (thanks, TheGamer), who managed to clear KOTOR in a glitchless Any% playthrough in just one hour, 51 minutes. It took them just 23 minutes to clear Taris, one hour and 17 minutes to reach the iconic Revan reveal, and less than two minutes to beat Darth Malak.

The KOTOR animated series is delayed but is getting a Darth Malak spin-off

Earlier this year we reported that one of the best Star Wars games ever, Knights of the Old Republic, was getting a fan-made Unreal 5 animated series made with Lucasfilm's blessing. It was originally supposed to start in October but the shock reveal of a KOTOR remake has meant that the animated series is being delayed - but there are spin-offs coming first.

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic animated series is being made in Unreal 5 by the fans in Unreal Cinema, which was given the thumbs-up by Lucasfilm as long as it's non-profit and doesn't use footage from the movies. The big reveal back in August was the cast list and a targeted release date for the first episode of mid-October.

Clearly that didn't happen, and in their latest video (below) Unreal Cinema confirms that "due to the announcement of the remake" and a few other factors the KOTOR Unreal series has been delayed - but they do confirm "the series will still be continuing as planned" and isn't cancelled.
