Update 0.9: Points of Interest

Hey folks!

Finally the new update is now available! But first of all, I'm sorry for the long wait time. This update should have been available much earlier, but unfortunately unexpected personal circumstances led to this delay. But development should now be back on track.
In any case, this update introduces a lot of changes, but the main feature of this update are "Points of Interest" which spawn randomly in the world.

Points of Interest (POIs) are special locations in the world, a bit like a "mini dungeon". It could be a special natural structure (e.g a giant tree or a special rock formation) or a man-made structure (e.g a bandit camp or a sunken shipwreck).

In total, this update introduces 40 different POIs. Some POIs only spawn in specific biomes or climate regions. Each POI has the chance to spawn random loot and some POIs are also guarded by NPCs. To make POIs a little more varied, the update introduces a whole range of new objects and plants.

POIs will also spawn in existing worlds btw. If something goes wrong during world conversion, don't worry, the game creates a backup of your world automatically. In this case, please let us know so we can fix this issue ASAP!

There are also several new objects that can be crafted (e.g. animal trophies) as well as some new items.

But this update also introduces various other things: we have improved combat with melee weapons - the game now distinguishes between a regular strike and a heavy strike (hold mouse button), which deals more damage.

The ingame map also received two useful change: it now shows the boimes and also provides an indicator where to find your last spawn point. Both can be disabled if desired.

If you want to catch animals, this update adds a useful new feature: you can now catch animals with a rope. This makes herding a lot more easier.

If you want to improve your performance a bit, you can now enable NVIDIA DLSS or AMD FSR. The game gives full control over the quality, so alternatively you can also use it to improve the rendering quality.

The building part had also been improved by introducing several new block shapes (e.g torus, rounded cylinder etc). If you still think there are missing shapes, just let us know!

Last but not least, open water containers (like the trough or the newly added tub) will now be filled automatically by rain if it has been placed outside. This makes it easier to get fresh water.

As always, this update also introduces several changes, improvements and bugfixes. You can find the full changelog below. If you run into any issues, please let us know. Otherwise, stay tuned for the next update, which will be available soon :)

Minor Security Update

Hi folks! This is just a minor security update which fixes a recently discovered security vulnerability in the Unity engine. The security vulnerability affects all Unity games released after 2017/2018.
In case of Rising World, the overall risk was very low, but we're releasing this update as a precaution.

We're still working on the actual content update, which should be ready very soon. It will introduce Points-of-Interest and many more features, so stay tuned :)

Update 0.8.5: Fishing, clothes, thunderstorms and more

Hey folks,

A new update is now available! Main feature of this update is fishing, but it also adds various other things, like new climbing gear, new clothes, dynamite, thunderstorms and more!

This update introduces 12 catchable fishes (including special fishes such as a blobfish, a sea cucumber etc) as well as various catchable loot and other items. The fishes you can catch depend on your location, the water depth and the type of water. The game now distinguishes between saltwater and fresh water.
It is advisable to fish in deeper waters.

In order to make climbing easier, this update adds new climbing gear! This includes a basic climbing hook, but also a more advanced and much more flexible grappling gun. Use these items to climb walls, cliffs and other obstacles. Speaking of obstacles: dynamite is now available! It works in a similar way to grenades, but can blast away terrain and buildings. Dynamite can be attached to walls to make it easier to work with.

This update also introduces thunder and lightnings. This includes 5 new weather effects - including a hurricane (intense thunderstorm with heavy rain and storm). Hurricanes only occur during spring and autumn.

We've also done preparations for a future animals husbandry and taming feature. There is still some work to do, but for now, chickens will lay eggs and you can also pick up some small animals (chickens, chicks, hares and wolf cubs).

What should not be missing are minor quality-of-life changes: crafting progression is now shared in multiplayer (co-op), posters/images can be renamed, there are more separate audio volume sliders available and the settings menu now contains a search bar to quickly find a setting. In addition to this, the building grid is customizable and the "undo" command now also covers block placement.

Last but not least added 22 new clothes with this update! This includes various shirts, pants and shoes, but also two types of armor. We're still working on more clothes as well as various customization options (e.g. the ability to change the color or to attach custom icons to clothes), so stay tuned for the next updates!

Soundtrack now available!

Hey folks!

We're happy to announce that the Rising World Soundtrack is now available on Steam!

It includes two volumes, which contain the music of the game as downloadable audio files. Volume 3 is already in the works and will be added to the Soundtrack in the future free of charge!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3501970/Rising_World_Soundtrack/

Please note: This is only the Soundtrack, i.e. downloadable mp3/flac files. It neither affects the main game nor is it required to play the game.

Stay tuned!

Update: New Version

Hi folks,

Finally the new version is ready! This means that it is no longer in a separate beta branch, and we've also updated the store page accordingly.

If you're already playing the new version, or if you want to keep playing the old Java version, you can find more information at the bottom of this post.

We spent the last year reworking the game from scratch and move it to a new engine. We didn't simply want to port the game, instead we decided to use this opportunity to rework most game mechanics - especially those which weren't that great in the old version.

The new version not only provides better graphics and sounds, it also generates more credible and immersive landscapes, and most features are a lot more polished.

Compared to the Java version, the new version received some features which didn't exist in the Java version, e.g. seasons, flowing water, crafting progression and more.

The new version also provides more biomes, which are much more versatile compared to the biomes in the Java version.

While the new version doesn't feature the same animals as the Java version, it still has more animals than the Java version - and they're more polished, especially in terms of animations. For most animals, we now have a male, female and baby variant - so features like animal husbandry, breeding and taming are within reach.

Last but not least, we've reworked the building system. The new version provides a much more powerful building system compared to the Java version.

Every construction element can be freely resized, moved and rotated without any limitations. The new version also provides a powerful snapping tool, which is very helpful in order to create rounded or even organic surfaces.

This update also introduced some changes (compared to the previous update), but mainly smaller changes and bugfixes, because we mainly focused on replacing the Java version. Expect new content with the next update. However, you can find the changelog here.

Important features from the Java version, which are still missing, are dungeons and fishing. The latter will be added with the next update.

Stay tuned! If you want to get more information about development, you can check out our roadmap on Trello: https://trello.com/b/t5Leypcj/rising-world-development
Technical information
This update changed the folder structure of the game. This has implications for players who already played the game before. Don't worry: All worlds and blueprints are still there.
Information for users who already played the new version
If you've already played the new version in the past (i.e. if the beta branch was active), the new version was installed in a separate "_New Version" subfolder. However, with this update, the new version gets installed into the main game folder (/Steam/steamapps/common/RisingWorld).

When launching the new version, it will move all previous worlds from the Java version into a separate "_Java Version" folder, and move all worlds and blueprints from the "_New Version" folder into the main folder.

If something goes wrong, the game will show a warning in the main menu. In this case, it could be necessary to move the game files manually.
Information for users who want to keep playing the Java version
The new version is shipped with the Java Version for now - the Java version gets installed into a separate "_Java Version" subfolder in the game directory. To launch the Java version, you have to navigate to that subfolder and launch the game from there.

If you don't want to get the new version and want to stay on the Java version, you can enable the "java - Legacy Version" beta branch - this will keep things untouched. To enable the Java branch, right-click on the game in your Steam library, select "Properties", go to the "Betas" tab and enable the "java - Legacy Version" branch (no code is required). Note: Don't do this if you want to play the new version as well!

If you run into any problems or if you have any questions, please create a new topic in our forums about that and we will gladly help you.
Steam Cloud Save
Unfortunately we had to disable Steam cloud save with this update. This means that save games won't be synced with your other computers anymore. Worlds will also no longer be recovered automatically if you uninstall Steam or format your computer.

We will add Steam Cloud support for the new version in an upcoming update.
