[2-1-2019] Hotfix 1.0

We've released a tiny patch to address some issues players are facing in the new beta builder!

We're also addressing the workshop situation.
As of Version 15.1, new builder vehicles no longer upload to workshop. This is intended behavior, and we will remove the button for that in the future to combat any confusion.

For now, only old builder vehicles can be uploaded on the workshop.

Fixes
  • Downloader now downloads multiple items at the same time
  • Downloader now has far less priority (and should block networkwork packages less often)
  • Downloader now disposes correctly on error
  • Fixed issue where players would be at (0,0,0) in Multiplayer sometimes
  • Fixed issue where vehicles would stop syncing movement sometimes
  • Added some extra logging (like which Version you're running) for debugging reasons
  • Fixed issue where Homebrew would crash on boot on very specific windows installations

As always, we'll keep our eyes open on Steam, DISCORD and our other channels as usual!

EDIT
Pushed another small update, found a bug with the server-rate, causing servers to hit their package limit once a certain number of players were in-game.

Homebrew - Patent Unknown - New Builder Beta

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKEzQ8bfnCk
In 2014 we introduced Homebrew as a place where everyone could build whatever they are crazy enough to imagine.

In the following years weapons, other parts, overhauled physics, improved graphics and multiplayer, a ton of bug fixes and lua integration updates were released.

Which brings us to 2018, the year of part updates, a vast expansion of the world, and a full weather system integration.
There’s still one last thing that we would like to do before the year is over though.

Symmetry, Paint Tool, Better UI, Improved skinning tools, Faster prototyping, TAB menu and a lot more.

These are not separate updates, and so today we’d like to announce that 2018 will be remembered as the year we re-invented the builder.

(ps: to launch the beta, just select Homebrew 15.1 when launching Homebrew. If it's not there, try restarting Steam)

As always, we'll keep our eyes open on Steam, DISCORD and our other channels.

This makes playing around in the builder a bit easier to manage.

Dodo-Plane Contest

Hello Homebrewers!
We've got a contest lined up for you guys once again. The Dodo-Plane Challenge!

You'll be building planes, but there's a catch: Your vehicle must be powered by wheels and nothing else!
That's right. No propellers, no jets, no rockets. Just good old-fashioned rubber to the road, and to add to the challenge; no infinite fuel or power either. What motor you use to power these wheels is up to you. (Also don't detach bits of your vehicle! The whole craft has got to stay together and fly or it doesn't count!)

What we want is a vehicle that picks up speed on the ground using wheels only, which can then take off and fly controllably (and ideally land too), but above all we want to see creativity!
This contest isn't a serious competition, its about having fun on a challenging build and sharing the creativity, so in the spirit of the challenge we would appreciate it if your vehicle didn't exploit any workarounds or particularly wonky game mechanics.

Amphibians would be cool to see too, so long as any water thrust method doesn't boost them in the air. (kudos if you can find a way to power your boat with wheels)

The contest begins now and will end November 11th. So get building! You've not got long! We plan to host a stream at the end of the event as well, so stay tuned and check the Homebrew Discord for more details!

Natafish over and out.

Stepping Towards New Builder V7: Life saving builder features!

Good day Homebrewers! Today We will dive into some of the smaller yet powerfull features of the new builder.

Visibility options:

Ever got stuck finding a part within your plated vehicle?
Well these hide options might help you out.

So far we can make Parts/Pipes/Plates invisible.

Move builder:

Move the entire builder at the press of a button.
Pressing the button will position the builder infront of your view but not through the ground.

Zen mode:

Building in the world is cool but it can feel a bit overwhelming, the new builder introduces Zen mode.
When enabled, Zen Mode will render the world invisible and leaves you with a conforting blue horizon.

Selection options:

To combat having to re-select the same parts more then once.
We can store our selection in the selection options panel.
Once stored we can resurect/rename/remove our selection at any time.

Grid options:

10cm Fixed grid is a thing of the past with these new grid options. Any grid size will do.
We can double / half our grid size with a button, or enter a custom value.
The grid itself can be hidden to get a cleaner view on our vehicle.

Compass:

Figuring out direction in the builder was tedius and required some debugging skills. Now a compass will aid you in these situations.
The arrows on the compass indicate the current angle you are looking at.

Mute vehicle:

Once your vehicle is all hooked up, it will most likely make some noise while building.
We could disable the seat but that doesnt really fix the issue, so a Mute Vehicle button has been added.

Copy Paste:

And probably the most life saving option, is Copy..Paste.
Thats right just select some parts and press [ctrl]+[c] > [ctrl]+[v]

As always, we'll keep our eyes open on Steam, DISCORD and our other channels.

Stepping Towards New Builder V6: Unveiling Plating Tools!

Here we are once more with an update on the upcoming builder.
Today we will be covering the plating tools.

Adding Plates:

The days of welding on plates and adjusting them into place are finally over.
We've made two new ways for adding plates sofar.

1) Simply click and drag a plate into existance.

2) Or, you can click 4 times to setup a plate. This is handy for filling holes.

Removing Plates:

Just like the pipe tool, we can hold [ctrl] + click a plate to remove it.

Adjusting Plates:

Adjusting parts in general has gotten a lot more fun and stable.
Nodes only show up when that part is selected.

When working with complex vehicles it can be handy to lock the selected parts for edititng. This prevents selecting other parts when we misclick a node.

Nodes can be dragged around, their plane of movement will be automaticly determined via your camera angle.

Hold [shift] to snap nodes on grid as you move them.

Nodes will automaticly snap onto other nodes as they are moved.

We can enable the axis gizmo to move the nodes around, some of us find this more suitable depending on the situation.

[alt] + click a node will lock it .

[ctrl] + click will reset the node. This is handy if you want straight plates or when we drag a node into oblivion by accident.

While editing we can change plate thickness and toggle between opaque and glass plates.

Measurements can be enabled on the selected parts at the press of a button.

And lastly the seams between the plates is greatly improved.

We hope this covers your desires as it comes to plates and adjusting parts.

As always, we'll keep our eyes open on Steam, DISCORD and our other channels.
