Post-Next Fest Bug Fixes and Updates - v.0.3.5

[p]Hey everyone! I just updated the demo to v.0.3.5 to fix some complaints and bug reports that came up during Steam Next Fest. Read on to see a list of the changes made!

I'll start by saying thank you for a great Next Fest! It was my first time participating, and it was amazing to see everyone playing and experiencing the game for the first time. There were over 2,000 new players that jumped into Tic Tactic during the week![/p][p]
[/p]
A new and improved Equipment Panel
[p][/p][p]Many of you may have noticed that the Equipment Panel was… not the best. It was functional, but there were several issues with the overall presentation.[/p][p]
[/p][p]I fixed some of the formatting issues and added an indicator that highlights the currently equipped weapon. In addition, I made it so that updating your equipped weapon is updated in the save file, so you can restart a fight without having to re-equip your weapons.[/p][p]

[/p]
Updated Leaderboard Implementation
[p]This is good news and bad news. I’ll start with the bad news… Existing scores will no longer appear on the leaderboard. I know, and I apologize. Some of these scores were invalid, anyway, but it was a necessary step.

[/p][p]The good news is that I have moved over to using the Steam Leaderboard system. Scores will automatically be stored within Steam, and will eventually be visible in the Steam Community. [/p][p]
[/p][p]Of course, participation is not mandatory. Just click the Welcome Message in the Main Menu to toggle network functions on and off.[/p][p]
[/p][p]In the same vein, there is now a Speedrun page for Tic Tactic, so there are many ways to compete![/p][p]
[/p]
Other Fixes
[p]I tried to get through as many bugs as I could in this quick update. Here’s a list of some of the ones that have been handled:[/p]
  • [p]End Game Screen would not appear after the first run. It was an error that spilled over from the previous run, somehow. I rearranged some things to take care of this.[/p]
  • [p]By popular demand, I decreased the difficulty of the final boss. Rather than gaining shield every turn, he will only gain shield every other turn, giving you a better opportunity to take a swing at him.[/p]
  • [p]There were a few overlap issues that I handled, such as with the Trader. I took care of most, but some, like the End Turn button, remain. Let me know if you find one and I will add it to the list.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed the lighting on a variety of in-game items and objects, like the Shrine.[/p]
  • [p]There were a bunch of missing pink textures. The cause of this was actually a huge and terrifying problem, but luckily it was not a huge undertaking to fix.[/p]
  • [p]Apparently, the tooltips in the Deck Panel were inaccessible! Well, they work now.[/p]
  • [p]The Deck Panel also had a bug that would cause it to act up at the end of a match. That bug is fixed, but I also set the panel to automatically close when the match is over.[/p]
  • [p]There were a few little hitches with the save system that required some rewriting. This may cause inconsistencies or incompatibility with existing saves, depending on how old they are.[/p]
  • [p]The Settings tab no longer switches with the Shift key if you are in the Feedback panel.[/p]
  • [p]The tooltip for the first reward no longer opens when it spawns unless you are using a Gamepad. The reason is that the item was immediately selected so that you would be able to use a controller to click it, but this only needs to happen… well, if you’re using a controller.[/p]
[p]

[/p][p]I’m still working through some existing issues, but please feel free to submit a bug report if you run into an issue that has not been listed here, and I’ll get on it right away! Some things I plan on working on include:[/p]
  • [p]Updates to the Tangle tiles[/p]
  • [p]Adding Windowed mode to Settings[/p]
  • [p]Making some updates to Enemy AI to make it a bit more difficult to trick[/p]
[p]
[/p][p]As always, you can keep up with me in the Steam Discussions or on Discord! Otherwise, see you next time.[/p][p]

BIG UPDATE! Say hello to Demo v.0.3.2

The demo has been updated to v.0.3.2! Boot it up to see some new content, lots of little fixes, and an overall better experience.
New Content
This update features several new tiles:
  • Crit
  • Shield (previous Shield tile has been renamed to Armored)
  • Thorn
  • Negative
  • Parasite
  • Slime

… and more! There are also some new encounters, fixes to existing encounters, and some new items to discover.
Overall Fixes
I corrected some big issues with the map that were preventing progress, so thank you to everyone that reported the issue in the previous version! In addition to the map, I included a few other little changes:
  • Increased the speed of end-of-turn by 0.5 seconds to make matches move a little faster.
Updated some save system code. NOTE: This may cause issues with existing saves, so please finish up your runs BEFORE updating.
  • Added the ability to manually enter a random seed.
  • Fixed some bugs for controllers.
  • In-game notification system that lets you know when certain effects have happened, as well as when the game saves. There’s also a notification icon that pops up when you collect a new weapon, which should help remind you to update your equipment!
  • Added tooltips to enemies to explain effects or add a bit of lore. The descriptions are still a work-in-progress, though, so some may be blank.
  • Cleaned and juiced-up some animations

I appreciate all the feedback so far! Keep it coming; it makes the game better! Share your thoughts in the Steam Discussions, through the in-game feedback form, or in our Discord community.

And, if you enjoyed the game so far, you can leave your thoughts in the form of a review–it helps more people figure out if it’s right for them!

Until next time.

The Tic Tactic Demo is Live!

I’m excited to announce that the Steam demo for Tic Tactic is live! Give it a try and let me know what you think here, through the in-game form, or via Discord! The game is still in active development as I approach the Alpha, so expect some updates coming soon.

Anyway, in true unbreaded fashion, I’ll outline the full scope of updates and available features below!
New Toys
The biggest change in the update comes in the form of weapons.

Weapons add an additional strategic layer to combat by enhancing combos with bonuses and multipliers. Each weapon will have unique interactions to interact with different gameplay styles! You’ll be able to acquire new weapons by defeating elite enemies and bosses. You can update your equipment on the map screen to try different strategies and test out new loot.

Weapons are divided into two tiers:
  • Common weapons, which add a straightforward bonus to combos, like the Katana, which gives extra damage to diagonal combos.
  • Rare weapons, with game-changing abilities that can turn a battle around–if you can meet the requirements, that is.
New Environment
This update introduces Mudwing Marsh as part of Act 2! You'll be able to explore 3 of the 9 areas from the full game.

Mudwing Marsh is a green swampland full of weird creatures and lots of mud. It’s also the home of the helpful frog you’ll come across on your journey!

The Marsh features new enemies, 3 elites, and a new boss, and also introduces a few new tiles to the game!
New… Management?
ALL of the bosses in the game have been remade from the ground-up. This includes new art, new decks, and new animations to make them more imposing. In this demo, you’ll be able to encounter 3 bosses:
  • The Thunder Samurai in the Pond Ruins
  • A… chicken? in Mudwing Marsh
  • The Cannoneers in The Henfields
Bug Fixes and Balance Changes
I won’t outline the full list of changes here, because there were a lot. But, I’ll provide a quick overview of some of the more critical changes:
  • Tile turn effects have been updated to split into Player and Enemy turn actions to make it possible for you to counter enemy tile placements before the effect… goes into effect.
  • Saving and loading has been updated to avoid some of the backtracking that would happen when loading back into the game.
  • There were some tweaks to the way different tile effects would work together to make sure they behaved as expected.

Please give the demo a go and let me know what you think (via the Steam Community, Discord, or the in-game feedback form)! The game is still in active development, so expect a lot of changes coming soon, such as a new leaderboard system, new music, TONS of new tiles, and many more!

Until next time!
