The Hive 0.15 Released Upcoming features



The Hive 0.15 Released & Upcoming features


Hello everyone, today we are releasing update 0.15 for The Hive

Our plan for this update was to increase performance and continue to integrate The Hive to new Unity 5 engine.

We also worked hard to fix bugs caused by change of engine, for example how new physics work.

We also wanted to talk about upcoming features we have planned for The Hive and community feedback.

Difficulty modes


Our plan has been to introduce Difficulty modes for those that have already completed The Hive and seek more challenge.

Survival Difficulty that let's you keep all the units you have from one level to next and in the same time making the game world more dangerous.

Each difficulty would have it's own save file that you choose from mainmenu


  • Normal difficulty (the current one)
  • Survival (Units, resources, dna, items and everything carry over to next mission, monsters are much harder and you resources are more scarce)
  • Hard difficulty (Unlocked after completing campaign on normal, increases monster difficulty)
  • Insanity difficulty (Unlocked after completing campaign on Hard, more monsters, more difficult, more boss abilities, damage greatly increased)


Steam Achievements



  • 40 Unique Achievements total
  • Some Achievements are tied to boss battles, avoid X ability etc
  • Style is based on pixelart
  • Simple, clean, easy to read the picture and what it represents
  • We would like to design interesting achievements based on player feedback and suggestions
0.15 Bug fixes & Features:



  • Physics performance increased
  • More light optimizing, increased ammount of light spots
  • Game music and sound effects now always play on priority 1 (stops stuttering)
  • Physics collision improved, units now only hit correct layers
  • Shadow casters improved on all levels
  • Shaders updated for several objects and creatures
  • Boss ability timers and values tuned
  • Item drag bug fixed
  • Several colliders updated
  • Debug spam greatly reduced (developer console)
  • Unit "mass" updated for better collision
  • map02 treasury jewel now glows red so it's easier to spot
  • Smoke now uses right color
  • Building chimneys now have right particle effect
  • Wasp shader fixed
  • "Shadow" unit shaders fixed
  • "Bomb" guy now properly shows the target it's fixated on
  • Ara'desh and ???? ability colliders now work again
  • Map10 developer window is now hidden
  • Lightray flickering fixed

The Hive 0.14 - Unity 5 update is now available


Hello everyone, today we are releasing update 0.14 for The Hive

Our plan for this update was to upgrade whole project from Unity 4 to Unity 5.3.4p2 version,
We also wanted to focus on fixing known bugs and improve certain boss fights.


Bug fixes & Features:



    Whole project upgraded to use Unity 5 engine
    Shadows are now enabled on all levels on default
    95% of all shaders now use new one
    Lights on every level optimized and changed
    Camera movement speed increased 1 -> 1.5
    Units no longer get stuck underground
    Better pathfinding
    More abilities added to ????
    More special monsters added
    Queen attack now has a slightly larger range and quicker attack speed
    Second mission ambush units are now stronger
    Powerfield and Necromancer skills fixed
    "Under attack" audio no longer plays during cutscene
    Egg laying mechanism fixed
    Music volume level is now same if another song starts
    "Shadow" units have more hp
    Hive and barracks both increase population cap
    Worker den increases worker build cap by 2
    Attackmove bug fixed
    Right clicking on unit no longer deselects its target circle
    You can no longer shift select multiple enemy units
    Retreat button now has small cooldown to prevent spamming it
    Shader issues related to transfer fixed

    The Hive 0.13 - Drowned God is now available


    Hello everyone, today we are releasing update 0.13 for The Hive called "Drowned God"

    Our plan for this update was to more playable content, puzzles, music, npcs, balance the game and fix existing bugs (no pun intended)




    Bug fixes & Features:



    • New mission - Drowned God
    • New Enemy units - ????
    • Two new music tracks added
    • New boss abilities added
    • New Portraits added
    • New Puzzles added
    • Player Buildings now regenerate HP
    • Chests always drop atleast one item
    • Item pickup only works with right click while unit is selected
    • Worker Den Attack and defence upgrades cap at lvl3
    • Dead turtles now show remaining food value
    • Bosses now do fixed ammount of damage on player buildings
    • Legionnaires now have out of combat passive regen
    • Hunters now have passive armor pierce ability
    • Turret attack speed increased, damage lowered
    • Hunter attack speed increased, damage lowered
    • Only Squad Leader gets upgrade buffs
    • Bug fixed where enemy units would gain same damage and defence upgrades player researches
    • Pathfinding no longer warps units
    • Ancient attack damage in first mission 15 -> 10, armor reduced by one
    • Retreat speed increased

    Hello everyone, today we are releasing update 0.122 for The Hive

    Our plan for this update was to fix bugs, add new gui information and new kind of stats to items


    Bug fixes & Features:



    • New item properties
    • Critical strike - Deal double damage
    • Poison - Deal 40% additional damage over 4 seconds
    • Maim - Lower targets damage by 30% for 5 seconds
    • Life Leech - Gain a % of damage done as health
    • Armor pierce - Ignore X defence
    • Reflect - Return X damage when hit
    • Unit selection now has highlight on middle gui
    • Double clicking unit on middle gui selects it
    • Construction bar size fixed
    • New font added to options, loadingscreen and ingame
    • Medic skill cooldowns are longer
    • Maps now have more enemy patrols
    • Enemy patrols show in the minimap
    • Attack damage removed from levelup
    • Tab selection fixed
    • Boss names changed
    • Resources renamed to Minerals
    • Middle gui now shows tooltip on Food, mineral, population and dna
    • Insectoid eggs added to the first spawning pool

    Hello everyone, today we are releasing update 0.12 for The Hive

    Our plan for this update was to to add new unit, new unit abilities and more items.
    We also worked on improving the A.I and pathfinding


    Bug fixes & Features:



      New Insectoid Unit - Rhino
      27 new items
      New Medic ability - Resurrect
      New Avatar ability - Chain bolt
      New Queen ability - Call worker, spawn unit
      New Rhino ability - Taunt
      Squads now use improved Pathfinding
      Enemy units now have more patrol routes
      A.I targeting improved
      You can now see enemy stats
      Old items have been rebalanced
      Buildings now have construction bar on top of them
