Creature Feature: Antoinette Variants

We’ve been hunkered down in the cave lately, fine-tuning the final pieces of the puzzle for our upcoming full release. While we've been quiet, we certainly haven't been idle, here's a peek at what we're working on.
The Evolution of a Threat
The original Antoinette was a solid entry-level threat, dealing straightforward damage through her flame thrower. She was a great warmup, but for those of you who have mastered the basics and are craving a real challenge, we decided she needed a glow-up. Or rather, a corruption.

We are introducing new variants of Antoinette designed specifically to test your teamwork even more.
New Variants & Effects
• Blight Antoinette: Gets you infected, the room will eventually be filled with Blightwalkers from your fallen teammates. CHAOS!
 • Poison Antoinette: Deals poison damage, say the spells to heal. Easy peasy!
 • Ice Antoinette: Reduces your movement speed, making you a sitting duck for faster creatures that appear (see next section)
 • The Twins: Think you can handle one? Two now spawn in place of one, doubling the pressure.
 • The 'Insanity': For the ultimate test, the final variant is random. This version pulls a random of the three status effects at once, adding more to the chaos.
More monsters spawn too
And there's more, not only will you get the new variants, more Monsters will spawn in the chamber! Have fun dealing with two Meatgrinders! And much more! We won't reveal everything.
Where to Find Them
Don't worry, these upgraded ladies won't be haunting your casual strolls just yet. You'll find them exclusively in:
 • Challenge Mode
 • Endless Mode
Join our Discord community
Antoinette and her sisters are slated for our Final Release. But we're still testing her out (and we may yet make balance changes). If you'd like to be part of the test group, join our Discord community and take part in the development of Antoinette and more!

Roadmap: Act III Progress, Features and Bug Updates

My dear Companions! This will be a long read.

We're overwhelmed by the support for the game so far. Thank you guys for playing and supporting our small indie team! I just wanted to give you guys an update on what is going on right now.
ACT 3 Updates:
This is more of a general update, we want to avoid spoilers as much as possible, so some things might be vague.
Maps and Dungeons
We're working on the new maps, (Spoiler: I hate water now), dungeon rooms and interactive objects that are in the game - (like the Sarcophagus and Totem). There will be a couple of things in the Dungeon and on the maps itself. We'll release detailed updates in the upcoming weeks.
Game Mechanics
Watching you guys play was a joy and it helped us to narrow down what mechanics were truly fun, this helped us to figure out what we should include in Act 3.

For example, the Party Box was a simple addition but a big hit. We knew folks wanted a jukebox and JaggedSky put together some tunes. He didn't know that so many people wanted a proper playlist for it. ☺️
Spell Torches
Many felt Spell Torches were bit useless after a while (some players just upped the dungeon brightness). So we're implementing a mechanic where the Spell Torch will reveal hidden items or messages. This will make it more crucial to have at least one player bring a torch.
Killing Monsters
Some folks also want to know if they can kill the unkillable monsters. Something we've grappled with at the start was that this wasn't a game about killing monsters... It was a game about surviving them.

That being said we're considering adding an item that allows you to kill them. It will have to be limited in use, rare and most importantly fun to use. Look forward to the reveal!
Spell Journal and Dungeon Codex
Some players felt that since the books were so crucial, all players should have access to them by default. They did not like that it took up the limited inventory slots. At the beginning we wanted to encourage more team play and wanted players to stick together. So we designed it this way.

There are some possible solutions:
 • Combine the books into one item (but you have to flip)
 • Make it part of the UI, like the Guidebook
 • Leave it alone
 • Add another default inventory slot

We aren't sure what route to take. So help us decide by taking the poll on our Discord channel.
Act 3 Monsters
New monsters will definitely be as interesting as wel can make it. We're hoping to lean more into the voice mechanics so that it would keep things fresh for you guys. Our current apporach is to add more wierd and less lethal monsters, but hopefully more creepy and fun to deal with.

We haven't quite settled on a Boss Monster for Act 3 as yet. So feel free to drop us any ideas at 👂-feedback
👑 New Treasure and Items
Walkie Talkies are in development, along with interesting Treasures that have special effects on the players when they carry them. At present we have about 4 or 5 items already in development and plan to add more
🗓️ Act 3 Release Date
Like all devs, we're cagey about giving a definite date. We're targeting sometime between April to July 26 for Act 3. We'll keep you guys posted. Some mechanics and features might be pushed out in earlier updates.
🐛 Bugs, Quality of Life and other Features
We've recently fixed some network bugs that kept disconnecting some players when they opened the portal. Most of the overlapping bad dungeon seed errors should be fixed, some rooms will still have issues. We're working on additional settings for screen resolutions and graphical quality.

Your Endless Adventure Begins! How far can your team go?

Your Endless adventure awaits! We are happy to announce Endless Mode is now live! This is the hardest mode (so far) of Cursed Companions, it's a little more hardcore and we're looking forward to your streams and your feedback on this new game mode.

Unlike Act 1, Act 2, and Challenge Mode, Endless Mode has no fixed endpoint. The goal is simple: survive as long as possible and see how far your team can progress. See if you can hit the 28th Day!

The Endless mode marks another step toward our full release. Endless mode is how we envisioned Cursed Companions to be during our initial concept stage.
How Endless Mode Works
Endless Mode runs in repeating cycles. Each cycle consists of six in-game days.
 • Days 1–3: Reach the initial Treasure target.
 • Days 4–6: A new, higher Treasure target is set.
 • Day 6: A boss from Act 1 or Act 2 appears.

Defeating the boss rewards the team with a Queen's Hand, worth one-third of the current Treasure target (for example, a quota of 18 Treasure points grants a Queen's Hand worth 6). Once the Treasure target is met on Day 6, the team advances to Day 7 and the next cycle begins.

This pattern repeats every six days (Days 6, 12, 18, and so on), with bosses and increasing difficulty each cycle.

⭐Pro Tip: If your team reaches the Treasure target before Day 6, you can enter and exit the boss day without defeating it and still progress to the next cycle.
Saving Progress in Endless Mode
Endless Mode includes an automatic save system. At the end of each day, when the portal closes, the game saves:
 • Current In-game Day (i.e Day 12)
 • Team abilities (life, stamina, etc)
 • Equipment and treasure stored on the Island

Selecting 'Continue' will restore this state. Starting a new Endless Mode run will overwrite the previous save.
Survival Tips
The equipment and facilities (Wayhome Stones, Summoning Staff, Teleportaloo, Teleport Circles, Healing Baths, etc) were initially designed for Endless mode, as devices to make players live longer in the later stages of game, so they will come in super useful for this mode. Use them strategically. Of course it goes without saying, teamwork is super important in Endless Mode.
Restore Player Stats via the Soul Potion
Player stats are saved as Soul Potions, including health, stamina, curse words, inventory slots, and other upgrades. Any player can drink any Soul Potion, so teams should coordinate to ensure each player restores the correct stats.
44 New Achievements and more cosmetics!
Endless Mode is designed for players looking for a higher challenge. Surviving to Day 16 and Day 28 unlocks exclusive cosmetics.

We've also added 44 new Achievements, including:
 • You Talk Too Much – Kill 100 players by triggering their death curses
 • Shoemaker – Return 10 Blightboot Treasures
 • Immortal – Complete Challenge Mode without dying
 • Alcoholic – Drink all 8 potions in a single run
 • Art Connoisseur - Buy all the paintings

We're planning to add more as we add more content to the game.
And one more thing...
To mark the release of Endless mode, we have scheduled a limited-time deal for Cursed Companions. If you have been waiting to pick up the game, make sure you wishlist us to get notified when the promotion starts!

Endless mode now available in Beta, plus other news

Happy 2026! 🎉 Hope you had lots of fun and plenty of games to play! Especially after that awesome Winter Sale! We had a great time too. Took a short break (well kinda, we were still doing some minor tweaks and still finding bugs) and we're back to share with you some updates and news.
Endless Mode is ready to test in the Beta track
One more step towards the launch of our full release! Endless mode is what is says it is, unlike Act 1, Act 2 and Challenge Mode, there's no end, play as long as you can, see how far you can go!

⚠️Note: To play the beta track, go to Steam > Cursed Companions > Properties > Betas > Language-beta

How does Endless mode work?
In Endless mode the cycle goes like this, you have 3 in-game Days to hit your Treasure target. And after that another 3 more Days to hit a new and bigger target. On the 6th day, you'll meet a boss from Act 1 or Act 2.

If you defeat the boss, you get a Queen's Hand, which is worth 1/3 the Treasure target (e.g. if your quota is 18 points, you get a Queen's Hand worth 6 points). Once the Treasure target on the 6th day is met, you and your team survive to reach the 7th Day.

And it goes on, every 6th day of the cycle (i.e, 6th, 12th, 18th, and so on) you meet a boss and get a Queen's Hand worth 1/3 the Treasure target. See how far your team can go! Share your progress with us!

💡Dev's Tip: you don't have to defeat the boss if you already made the quota. For example, if by the 5th day, you have miraculously hit the Treasure target, you can open and close the 6th day (the boss level) and skip that stage altogether and still make it to Day 7.

Saving games in Endless Mode
We've added a simple save feature in the Endless mode. At the end of every day, when the portal is closed, the game saves the current Day and your team's abilities as well. When you load the game again (via the Continue button), all the equipment, treasures on the Island will be restored.

⚠️Note: Save game will be overwritten the moment you start a new Endless Mode

Soul Potion - Restore Player stats
Player stats are also saved, such as current Curse Words, Health, Stamina, extra inventory slots, and so on. These will take the form of Soul Potions. We've made it simple so that any player can drink any Soul Potion, so just make sure you drink the right one, or you'll end up with the wrong stats.

Endless Mode will not be easy. It's made for those who like a challenge. Which brings us to the next topic.
New Achievements and Skins
If you can survive Endless Mode till Day 16 and 28, and hit the achievement, you get to unlock skins, a great way to flex.

We've also added 42 more special Achievements that should make it more of a challenge (we think), here are a few:
 • You talk too much - Kill 100 players by saying their Death curses
 • Shoemaker - Returned 10 Blightboot Treasures to the Chest
 • Immortal - Complete Challenge Mode without dying once
 • Alcoholic - Drink all 8 potions in one run

⚠️Note: These Achievements will be in the 'Language-beta' track of the game. We will bring them on to the main Early Access track/build as soon as we can
Other Updates and Improvements
The Partybox - a house decoration, plays music, great for parties!

Fixes for the dungeons in Act 2 where sometimes the walls overlap each other and causes players to get stuck.
Coming Next...
We'll move the Endless mode to the main Early Access track if no issues are found. Next up we'll focus mainly on bug fixes for mid-game drop-in / drop outs, look into a few mic issues and make quality of life improvements where needed.

We're also making new maps, several new monsters, and new items along the way.

Thanks for your feedback and support! Keep them coming! And if you can, join our Discord and chat with us! We are always listening!
