Roots of Harmony News

Version 1.3.0

This patch is a bit smaller than the two previous ones, mostly because the big feature I had intended has proven to be not fun after all; and sometimes it's best to erase the things you've done instead of digging deeper into failure!

That being said, here is the changelog:

  • Added: 10 new generic events.
  • Added: 25 new land encounters. That includes gates to teleport from one direction to another, and two "game changer" encounters: the Relic of Doom and the Lord of Chaos. A new game is necessary if you want to see those new encounters.
  • Added: 6 new milestones.
  • Changed: You can now reroll your milestones during your first turn.
  • Changed: Maximum traits per disciple increased from 3 to 4.
  • Changed: Increased occurrence of land encounters.
  • Changed: You can now recruit as many disciples as your resources allow during the same turn. However, the restriction of 1 disciple per turn is kept in New Game+.
  • Fixed: Due to a typo, base damage was actually never properly calculated during combat, and the value was the same for everyone (10). Feel free to throw rotten tomatoes at me. 🍅

Thanks to Nookrium's video, RoH has received a bit more visibility, so let me say thank you and welcome to all newcomers! :)

Enjoy!

Version 1.2.4

Fixed and improved the tutorial.

Version 1.2.3

  • Changed: The book link is now bound to F11 instead of F12, as I had forgotten that it was the default key for taking a screenshot in Steam.
  • Fixed: Crash when the recruitment land was Crossroads on one turn, and then when on the next turn it got conquered by an enemy.

A demo, and some fresh news!

Hello Harmonious people, and happy new year! 🥳🎉🎈

Here is some fresh news from a random indie developer!

I've spent the last two years working on my own game, and switching from the modding scene (I've started coding in 2014 with Skyrim, then I've worked for 4 years for the mod Mayhem, for X3) to the indie scene was – and still is – an adventure! At the time I'm writing this, Roots of Harmony has sold about 180 copies, which is not so bad, compared to some other games that have invested a lot more money into their project than I did. It has also been wishlisted more than 500 times, which also doesn't sound so bad for a game that I've released without any form of marketing (hint: don't do that). Of course, the developer of Warsim, Huw, has been very kind to include my game into one of his news, and I cannot thank him enough for that, as the majority of wishlists I received come from that announcement.

But of course this is not enough to "live and drink", as they say in Caves of Qud. I think RoH is a pleasant game, and that it deserves more attention than it currently has (my opinion might be slightly biased, I'll admit), so I did a few things those past few weeks:

  • The first thing I did was to put the game on ITCH.IO, so if you want a DRM-free version of the game, here is the link.
  • The second thing I did was to release a DEMO version of the game. It's all fresh and new (released today), and to be perfectly honest, I should have done that before the release of the game, but you know... we all learn from our mistakes! You can download the DEMO on the main Steam page of Roots of Harmony.
  • Then, incidentally, I've also made a little Discord that is, at the moment, the very definition of emptiness.

Giving a Steam review is extremely important at this stage. Why? Because below 10 reviews (from people who bought the game), Steam's algorithm basically ignores the game, as it doesn't have an official score on its main page. So please consider leaving a little thumb! 🤗

Have fun, and live in harmony! 🌲🦋🌲
