This is a technical update on our ongoing work and recent reports we have received from users.
▼ Issue: Game Progress Being Reset (Reported by Some Users)
Some users have reported that their game progress appears to be reset upon restarting the game.
We would like to first provide a potential recovery method for those affected by this issue.
We have implemented a backup system within the game that stores up to 10 previous versions of save data.
These backups include progress information and option settings.
Backup location:
C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Local\tgm4\savedata\[SteamID]\backup
Files:
option.01.ini ~ option.10.ini
status.01.ini ~ status.10.ini
If your progress has been lost, please try the following recovery procedure:
Navigate to the folder above.
Choose the lowest-numbered backup file (e.g., option.01.ini, status.01.ini).
Copy and rename it to overwrite the current files in the following directory:
Save data location:
C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Local\tgm4\savedata\[SteamID]
Overwrite these files:
option.ini
status.ini
If the files still appear corrupted, try using the next backup in sequence.
Current Analysis and Findings:
To be fully transparent ? we do not yet know the exact cause of this issue.
We acknowledge the possibility that this could stem from a coding error on our side.
Based on the information provided by users who reported the problem, the following commonalities were noted:
The issue became noticeable after restarting the game.
Steam Cloud was enabled during the time of data loss.
Beyond these two points, we were unable to identify any consistent patterns.
We did, however, manage to reproduce a similar case internally under the following conditions:
After quitting the game, if Steam attempted to upload save data to Steam Cloud,
and the user closed the Steam client before the sync completed,
there were rare cases in which save data was lost upon the next launch.
We suspect that when the game tries to load the save data but finds it incomplete or corrupted,
it may treat the environment as if it were a first-time launch, and reset the data accordingly.
As a temporary and cautious countermeasure,
we kindly ask that players disable Steam Cloud for this game.
We are continuing to investigate the issue and working on a permanent solution.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
▼ Issue: Detection by Windows Defender (Trojan:Script/Wacatac.C!ml)
Some users have reported that Windows Defender flags the game as “Trojan:Script/Wacatac.C!ml.”
We have thoroughly checked the original code to rule out the possibility of an actual virus,
and we have found no malicious content or infection within the codebase.
We are confident that this is a false positive.
What is "Trojan:Script/Wacatac.C!ml"?
It is a broad, generic detection label used by Microsoft Defender to flag software that behaves “suspiciously,” even if it is harmless.
Script: Despite the name, this label can be applied to programs that do not contain JavaScript, VBScript, or any scripting at all.
Wacatac: Not tied to a specific malware family ? used generically for questionable behavior.
.C!ml: Indicates that the threat was flagged via machine learning algorithms.
We have already submitted a false positive report to Microsoft.
We will continue to monitor and investigate this issue as well.
Again, we apologize for the trouble and thank you for your patience.
