Diary #4: exploring the star chart of Twinkleby

[p][/p][p]Pictured: Molligan, adventurous collector and eccentric shop-keeper[/p][p]We’ve previously talked about stellars, and today, we’ll dive a bit into another function of the falling stars. See; a central character to Twinkleby is Molligan. She travels the archipelago and collects items from far and wide, and then sells her collection in Molligan’s Antiques.[/p][p]Stellars are used to unlock star paths between islands. When you’ve collected enough, you will open new star paths to nearby islands on your Map, and this is how you travel through the archipelago.[/p][p]This is also why Molligan trades part of her collection for Stellars; in order to fund her travels and collect more rare items, she needs Stellars to chart paths to deep reaches of the archipelago that are yet unknown.[/p][p][/p][p]Pictured: the in-game Map, showing several unlocked islands[/p][p]In Twinkleby, you start your journey at one corner of the archipelago, and the first island you encounter is very small (smaller even than the demo island!). But this quickly changes as you collect Stellars and unlock paths to the rest of the archipelago, which spans islands of all kinds of sizes and topography.[/p][p]The islands of Twinkleby are built like mountains, clusters of smaller islands that you can build bridges between, great plains where you can freely build maximalist neighbourhoods – and so many other constellations. There are also hidden islands off the beaten track, that you can only unlock through Map Fragments that you get as rewards from happy Neighbours.[/p][p][/p][p]Pictured: a mountainous island from fairly early in Twinkleby’s progression[/p][p]Basically – there are many ways to traverse the Twinkleby archipelago, and; once you’ve travelled far enough through the starlit sky, there are even opportunities to place new islands on the map, that you shape and name all on your own.[/p][p]Next week, we’ll be back with some real exciting news!
