BioMenace Remastered at Steam Next Fest

BioMenace Remastered will be featured at Steam Next Fest from Oct 13th to 20th at 10 AM PT/7 PM CEST! Until then, play our updated Demo and tell your friends about it!

The 2.0 update for our demo includes new features, additional content, and many fixes and improvements. Check out the full list of changes.

Demo updated to version 2.0

We’ve just released a big update for the BioMenace Remastered Demo in preparation for Steam Next Fest (starting October 13)! Because of some changes to scoring, we also introduced new leaderboards for this version. But don’t worry - your entries on the previous version’s leaderboards are still there, and will remain! You can still view them in the new version, from the menu. However, any new entries will appear on the new leaderboards only from now on.

The biggest changes in this update are the addition of two brand-new bonus levels and a dedicated tutorial level, per-pixel hit detection, and a kill-streak system which rewards killing enemies quickly with a score multiplier of up to 5x. This way there’s now more to achieving a maximum score than just collecting everything and not dying.
Full list of changes
• Added a dedicated tutorial level teaching basic gameplay
• Tutorial messages which appear in the tutorial level are no longer shown during regular gameplay
• Added options to disable tutorial messages and info messages
• Added bonus levels, these are meant to serve as examples of what user made levels could be like
• Improved enemy/hazard hit detection (now per-pixel accurate!)
• Added a Kill Streak system which rewards killing enemies quickly, and point penalties for dying often
• Secret levels now have a dedicated level end screen
• Removed “secret level found” bonus (the same amount of points is now given when finishing a secret level)
• Added “finished level at full health” bonus
• When finishing a level with less than full health, Snake now starts the next level with at least 4 health on Easy difficulty, and at least 2 health on Normal. On Hard difficulty, Snake’s health at level end is carried over into the next level unchanged as before.
• Extra life items now give 80k points, but only if Snake is at full health - otherwise, they are worth 10k points
• Up to 4 messages are now shown at the top of the screen instead of replacing the previous message immediately when a new one is shown
• Empty auto and quick save slots are now hidden in the menu to avoid confusion
• Level end screen now shows the name of the next level before starting it
• When out of ammo and using the regular gun, an infinity symbol is now shown instead of “0” to make it clear that the gun can always be used
• The number of clips now indicates the number of remaining full clips, not including the current one
• Restarting a level now resets death count
• Snake now has a recoil animation when shooting while in the air
• Various minor graphical tweaks and updates
• Improved background in secret levels
• Jumping Bombs are much easier to reliably destroy using grenades
• Visual level design improvements in L1 and L4
• Fixed a bug causing incorrect stats when loading saves made in a secret level
• Added key bindings to directly select specific weapons or explosive types (keys 1 through 6 by default)
• It’s now possible to look up/down by holding Shift while pressing up/down (key binding can also be changed)
• It's now possible to skip the entire intro story cutscene at once by pressing ESC (or Start button on gamepad)
• Fixed message “Level restarted” unintentionally being shown when the level restarts due to a death
• Fixed a bug that allowed scoring double points for killing certain enemies using landmines
• Other minor fixes

Demo updated to v1.3

[p]We just released a small update for the BioMenace Remastered demo:[/p]
• [p]"Classic" presentation now runs at the original framerate (35 FPS) so you get authentic choppy scrolling and sprite movement as in the original. You can still play with classic graphics and smooth scrolling/framerate, if you prefer - or even modern graphics and choppy. This is controlled by the "Smooth Motion" setting in the options.[/p]
• [p]Added a "Restart Level" option in the menu and a corresponding keybinding (F11 by default)[/p]
• [p]Updated hostage and block pushing sprites[/p]
• [p]Fixed a bug causing Snake to continue walking without any input after a dialog ends when using the analog stick to move[/p]
• [p]Fixed incorrect starting health in secret level[/p]
• [p]Fixed parallax background pixel shimmering artifacts and dark outlines on certain foreground tiles when "Smooth parallax" enabled[/p]
• [p]Fixed "Cycle HUD style" key binding not checking if the key is already in use elsewhere[/p]
