How to play online?

[p]Hi there, agents of chaos![/p][p]Super World War just released a couple of days ago and the whole team is thrilled to finally share it with you![/p][p]In a previous post we detailed how to configure your custom games, today we’ll cover the different ways to play online.[/p][p][/p][p]Online play works pretty much the same as custom local games do. All the settings available in local custom games are available here![/p][p]The main difference lies in how to create and join a game.[/p][p][/p][h2]Cross-platform Multiplayer[/h2][p]Super World War is also available on Nintendo Switch and it is possible for everyone to play together no matter the platform. If you own the game on Steam and your friend owns it on Switch, you can play together by using the join by code option (see below).[/p][p][/p][p]This part is pretty straightforward, once your are in the online menu, select “Create game” and follow the steps.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]When you’ll choose the game mode and the map, there is one more option, available only in online play: the visibility of the game.[/p]

• [p]In Public, your game will be visible to everyone and everyone will be able to join it.[/p]
• [p]In Private, the game won’t be displayed to other players, and only the friends you invite will be able to join, either with the game’s code or by inviting them using the Steam’s friends feature.[/p]

[p][/p][h2]Configure and launch the game[/h2][p]Once you’ve chosen the game mode and the map, the game is created and will be joinable by others, depending on its visibility.[/p][p]We won’t cover the usual game’s parameters here, which you can consult in the dedicated post, but only the online options.[/p][p]Keep in mind that the “Turn duration” and “Game duration” settings exist specifically for online play. If you want to be sure to play at a given pace, make sure to enable the turn timer. And if you want to complete the game, consider setting a game duration limit. Those settings are also explained in our custom games post and are activated by default in online play.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Here, for each player’s slot, you can choose if it is reserved for a player, an AI or disabled if you wish to play on a given map with a lower number of players. When a player joins the game they will automatically be associated with a player’s slot.[/p][p]Everyone in the game is able to change their slot to an empty one.[/p][p]Each player, including the one who created the game, is able to select their character and colors and use a “Ready” button once they’re done. Once everyone is ready, the game’s creator can launch the game with the “Play!” button. Tired of waiting for a player to be ready? You can just use the “Kick” button above their slot to kick them off the game and wait for someone else to join or just replace them with an AI.[/p][p][/p][h2]Invite your friends[/h2][p]Online multiplayer in Super World War is first and foremost about playing with your friends![/p][p]You have two ways of letting your friends join you:[/p]

• [p]Use the “Invite friend” button to open the Steam overlay and select the friend you wish to invite. Of course, your friend will need to own the game in order to join you.[/p]
• [p]Provide them with the game code shown on the bottom right of the screen. They will be able to use it to join your game. Make sure to respect upper and lower cases.[/p]

[p][/p][p]It’s very easy to join an online game in Super World War and three different ways to do so, depending on your preferences.[/p]

• [p]The Quick Join option lets you join any game with an open slot for a human player. You want to start playing quickly? This is for you![/p]
• [p]Join by Code allows you to jump right into a game created by one of your friends who provided you with the code.[/p]
• [p]Or you can Search for a game if you want to find the right game depending on your preferences.[/p]

[p]And if nothing suits you, why not create your own?[/p][p]Do not hesitate to join our Discord server in order to find other players to play with![/p][p][/p][h2]Search for a game[/h2][p]The Search menu lets you browse all available public games that haven’t started yet.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]The list displays the main information for each game: the map, maximum number of players, game mode, modified settings, and the number of players already in the game.[/p][p]For further details about a game you can select it and click the “Game settings details” button on the right of the screen to display the current settings.[/p][p]Once you’ve found the game of your choice, just select it and click the Join button![/p][p]And if you are searching for specific game settings, you can use the filter button, at the top left of the list, to only display the corresponding games. But keep in mind that if you only want to play 3 players skirmish with 30 seconds a turn, a frozen weather condition and no fog of war you might not find the game of your dream… Though you’ll still be able to create one and maybe create a trend of new warfare category![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]A game of Super World War can take a while, so at some point you’ll want to save and continue later.[/p][p]Only the game master can save an online game. It usually is the player who’ve created the game, or if they’ve left, the one who’s been in the lobby the longest.[/p][p]When the game master loads a saved game, it creates a new online lobby that can only be joined by the original players. They’ll be able to get back in either with the game code or by finding it in the Search menu.[/p][p]Since the game is already underway, no one will be able to change the game settings anymore.[/p][p]Once everyone has rejoined, the master can launch the game and pick up right where you left off![/p][p] [/p][p] [/p][p]If you’ve gone this far, you are more than ready to start playing online to Super World War!
