🌗 The Karma System

Hello everyone! 👋

This is the first post in a series we’ll be publishing weekly to share all the upcoming features in the next major version of Youtubers Life 3 – Stream Together!. Our goal: to leave Early Access behind, so… yes, something big is coming! 🚀

We know it’s been a while since the last update. When the current version became stable enough, we decided to pause regular patches to focus 100% on major changes that would make the game more fun, coherent, and, above all, closer to what you’ve been asking for.

The main goal of this update is to add more depth to the single-player experience:
  • Make youtuber mechanics more relevant.
  • Add new gameplay content available at all times (no unnecessary waiting).
  • Make online features more optional, for those who prefer to enjoy the story mode at their own pace.

The first big feature we want to show you is the new karma system.

In Youtubers Life 3 – Stream Together!, we want to reflect how creators decide what image they project to their followers. Some take questionable actions to gain views quickly; others prefer to stay honest, even if growth is slower. Both paths are valid, and that’s exactly what we want you to feel when playing.

The karma system doesn’t punish or reward: playing with good karma is not better or worse than playing with bad karma. It’s a matter of style. You can follow the dark path, chasing quick and easy success 💰, or follow the light path 🌟, growing slowly but with a more loyal community.

In the HUD, you’ll see a new karma indicator with 9 levels. Each “good” action adds points toward the positive side, while each “bad” action moves it toward the negative. The dominant karma type will define your character’s personality.

⚖️ What counts as good or bad actions?

There are many actions in the game that can influence your karma. Here’s one example (though we recommend you discover the rest yourself 😏):

When creating a video, you can choose what message you want to convey. For instance, in Review-type videos, you can decide to make a positive or negative review.

Each decision has consequences:
  • If you recommend a poorly-rated game, you gain bad karma (because you’re misleading your followers), but you improve your relationship with the developer brand.
  • If you criticize a low-quality game, you gain good karma, though your relationship with the brand may be affected.

We’ll talk in detail later about the new video types and their effects… 😉

💡 What is karma for?

Throughout your adventure, you’ll meet many characters you need to interact with to achieve your goals. Some won’t require anything special, but others may ask you to trick them (using bad karma) or offer questionable services only available to unscrupulous players. On the other hand, if you want to take altruistic actions, you’ll need pure karma.

We don’t want to reveal too much yet, but this should give you a good idea of how the system will work in the game.

Karma is just one piece of the new Youtubers Life 3. It will shine even more when combined with other mechanics, which we’ll show you in upcoming devlogs.

We hope you join us on this journey: let us know in the comments what you think of this idea, what kind of youtuber you’ll be, and how you plan to use karma in the game.

See you next week with a new look at another major feature we’re working on.

Thank you for staying with us and being part of this journey! ❤️
