Greetings Commanders.

Today at 17:00 UTC / 18:00 BST we implemented a hotfix for Elite Dangerous: Odyssey with the following changes:

  • General stability improvements have been made.
  • General improvements to missions have been made.
  • A further fix for the 'Orange Sidewinder' error has been implemented.
  • A fix for cutting the maglock on thin lockers has been implemented.
  • The larceny mission has been enabled.
  • Improvements to the positioning of restriction zones have been made, to prevent trespass on docking.
  • A fix has been implemented for G3 AR-50 with the headshot damage mod being overpowered.
  • When loading Elite Dangerous: Odyssey as an existing Commander with custom control bindings, the on-foot section will now use default key bindings.
  • A fix has been implemented to enable weapon skins to be available in the weapon livery.
  • An issue has been fixed which caused a last embarked ship to be moved back to its previous docked position, when logging out from Odyssey on foot and logging in to the main menu on Horizons.
  • Elite's Companion API has been re-enabled.

Known issues[/h3]

  • Applying a livery to the Manticore Oppressor will cause a 'Black Adder' error. When logging back in to the game the skin will be applied correctly.
  • When switching back and forth between the weapons and suits tabs in the livery UI, content within will fail to populate correctly. This will be rectified when re-entering the menu.

Thank you, as always for your continued feedback and support.

See you in the black

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey's first hotfix should improve stability

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey has finally arrived, meaning it's time to hop outside your ship and tottle around on the surface of millions of planets. Trouble is, some commanders have been running into numerous technical problems as they've explored the massive space game on foot, and developer Frontier has pushed out a hotfix to address some of the most pressing issues.

Hotfix 1 should offer "general stability improvements" and "general mission improvements," and it corrects some errors in the initial tutorial - such as the enemy dropship occasionally not showing up to drop off the bad guys you're meant to get into a shootout with. Another error in the tutorial prevented commanders from using the express lift that takes you to the hangar and, crucially, your own spaceship. That's been fixed, too.

The hotfix also corrects some "colouration issues" with organics, as well as a crash players ran into when trying to edit their keybindings. For a hotfix that's arriving just over 24 hours after the expansion launched, it's a pretty extensive list, all things considered.

Navigate to this file location:

  1. %LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics
  2. Make a backup of every file in the graphics folder, and place it somewhere safe for future reference.
  3. Delete the original files in the Graphics folder.
  4. Restart the game.

Thank you for your patience and support. Please continue to highlight any issues you encounter on our Issue Tracker so we can investigate them as soon as possible.

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey has arrived for small steps and giant leaps

You can now set foot on the surface of countless planets in Elite Dangeous' simulated Milky Way. Elite Dangerous: Odyssey has arrived, which allows you to hop outside your Cobra MkIII in the space game and explore planets on foot for the very first time.

When you fire Odyssey up for the first time, you'll be treated to a crash course in first-person navigation planet-side. Your job is to infiltrate an enemy compound, which you'll quickly find has already been overrun by... someone. Never mind, though - the goal here is to get inside, get the power restored, and download some critical data.

We've only had enough time with Odyssey to determine that yes, it works, and you do get to walk around like in a normal FPS game. Going into a building on foot in Elite is awfully exciting, though, and there are containers to loot and computer systems to hack aplenty. Getting the lights back on attracts the attention of the folks who'd cleared the place out earlier, though, so there's a gunfight to deal with almost right away.
