Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Alpha Phase 4

Greetings Commanders!

We're excited to announce that Phase 4 of the alpha is now underway! This time, you can play Odyssey with your existing Commanders and ships, so bring on the Cutters, Corvettes, Cobras and more! To help manage your fleet, delivery times and costs for ship transportation have been reduced, allowing you to easily transfer and use any of your existing ships. The snapshot taken from the base game to duplicate for the alpha was taken on 23 April.

The following features will also be available:

 • Wing Missions / Ship Depot
 • Powerplay
 • Tech Brokers
 • Search and Rescue contacts
 • Research Station services contacts

Phase 4 is expected to close on 5 May, continuing as long as necessary for the development team to receive feedback, collect data, and make adjustments. Once the phase ends, the alpha will close so this is your last chance to play Odyssey until launch! Note that any progress made in the alpha will not carry over to the live game.

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Alpha Phase 4 Details

Greetings Commanders!

Following on from the excitement of the Elite Dangerous: Odyssey launch date announcement this afternoon, we're excited to make preparations for the final phase of the Odyssey Alpha, Phase 4, which is due to launch on Wednesday the 28th of April.

The primary focus of Phase 4 will be: Compatibility Testing.

Before Phase 4 can begin, a 'Player Snapshot' of your Elite: Dangerous Commander profile needs to be taken and applied to the Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Alpha.

This snapshot will be taken at 08:00 UTC / 09:00 BST tomorrow, April 23rd.
About the 'Player Snapshot':
The snapshot will include:

 • The ship your Commander is piloting at the time of the snapshot being taken. No other ships that you own will accompany you to Alpha Phase 4.
 • Your accumulated credits will transfer across as part of the profile snapshot.
 • Any players in SRVs at the time the snapshot has been taken will be moved back to their current ship and transferred.
 • Fleet Carriers that commanders currently own will not be coming to phase 4, however we are aiming to add the ability to purchase Fleet carries during Phase 4

In order to begin Alpha Phase 4 with your profile ready to go, the Elite: Dangerous Alpha servers will be down from approximately 07:00 UTC / 08:00 BST on Monday the 26th of April, returning to order to welcome in Phase 4 on Wednesday the 28th of April.

Full patch notes will follow on Wednesday the 28th along with the start of Phase 4 with a full list of features, fixes and known issues.

On behalf of all teams involved, we want to once again thank you for your hard work and commitment with providing such thorough and thoughtful feedback throughout each phase of the Alpha so far - amazing work.

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey launches next month

The day is finally here, Elite Dangerous fans. The release date for the space flight simulation game's enormous upcoming expansion Odyssey has been announced as May 19 for players on our home platform, with Xbox and PlayStation versions for our friends on console coming later in the year in the autumn.

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey - which was announced back in June last year and has recently seen players getting stuck into its multi-stage alpha - will bring on-foot exploration to the space game for the very first time. Frontier describes it as "the most ambitious Elite Dangerous expansion to-date" in a press release, and alongside this new level of gameplay, it'll bring new missions, "intense tactical combat", and a bunch of other new features to the 2014 game.

Odyssey players will get to customise their characters through various options for specialist gear and spacesuits, which are suited to the different (new) missions and challenges. For salvage missions there's a Remlok Maverick scavenger suit, for example, while others - such as the Supratech Artemis explorer and Manticore Dominator combat suits are ideal for exobiology investigation and Conflict Zone combat, respectively.
