Persistent space MMO Elite Dangerous is cheap on Steam, but not for much longer

Elite Dangerous sets itself apart through its colossal persistent universe. While Starfield has myriad pre-written stories, Outer Wilds challenges you to find the cracks in the solar system, and No Man's Sky makes survival the goal, Elite Dangerous puts all the power in your hands. This sci-fi universe can morph and change thanks to your decisions (or anyone else's), and after ten years it's only getting bigger. So if you fancy giving Elite Dangerous a go, it's currently the cheapest it's ever been on Steam.

After 7 years of alien war, Elite Dangerous pilots have finally defeated the Thargoids

Open that bottle of space champagne, the aliens have been wiped out. At least that's what the interstellar pilots of Elite Dangerous are celebrating in the galaxy-sized multiplayer space sim. Earlier this month, the Thargoid menace finally landed in the Sol system, putting earth itself under threat for the first time, not to mention other human homeworlds and colonies. Humanity will be unbounded, our light will shine out across the stars exploring the furthest reaches of our galaxy. Seeking new wonders and forging a new path on untamed worlds. This will be our triumph.

We owe to all that came before and all that comes after.

Let us begin again.

Elite Dangerous is such a vast space sim that 99% of it is still unexplored

We're spoilt for choice when it comes to exploring the universe in space games. You can get behind the controls of Starfield, No Man's Sky, Eve Online, The Outer Worlds, and countless more to experience different flavors of interplanetary travel. After ten years on the market, however, none do it quite like Elite Dangerous. Part MMO, FPS, and space simulator, Elite Dangerous has an entire persistent universe that players can shape through their actions, and it's getting even bigger in 2025. Considering how little players have explored the game in the last decade, next year is poised to massively expand what's on offer.
