Rainbow Six Siege's platinum and diamond ranks are getting easier to earn this season

The rework of the ranked skill distribution in Rainbow Six Siege will be partially rolling out this season, with the multiplayer game's higher levels getting significantly more achievable.

According to a source at Ubisoft, the Siege team "detected a trend where ranked players who reach platinum don't play as much to reach diamond," and thus the gaps between ranks in the platinum tier are getting narrowed, primarily by dropping a couple hundred skill levels off their entry requirements. To reach Platinum III, you'll still need to hit a skill rank of 3,200. Platinum II is dropping from 3,600 to 3,500, and Platinum I arrives at 3,800, down from 4,000.

Diamond will be easier to get into, and it's getting its own set of additional ranks. The skill rank you'll need to enter Diamond III is dropping to 4,100, down 300 from Diamond's former requirement of 4,400. Diamond II will be set at 4,400, and Diamond I hits at 4,700. Ubisoft tells us that the idea here is to give high-level players a greater sense of progression by allowing them to keep climbing skill ranks once they've reached diamond.

You may have already seen that the new operator is Osa, and she has a deployable shield gadget, but there's so much more in the Y6S3 update to uncover. For a while now, Rainbow Six Siege players have been reporting concerns about some Rainbow Six Siege operator skins being a little too tricky to spot against maps' backgrounds, with some blending in a bit too effectively. But, the good news is that the latest operation, Crystal Guard - which has just been unveiled - is bringing a solution to this.

Ubisoft recently listed the issue in a June 'Top Issues and Community Concerns' blog post - a rundown of the quirks and bugs it's aiming to improve within a certain timeframe. "We know that certain operator skins are well-known for blending into some environments, and this has led to situations where players felt they were at an unfair disadvantage," the studio explained. The solution would be to add a "rim lighting effect" to operators, which the Siege team explained they've been testing out and tinkering with to get it consistent across the board. Now, the good news is this change is coming with the new season.

Ubisoft has confirmed as part of its reveal of Crystal Guard that there will now be a light shader effect applied around every operator model in the FPS game going forward, so no matter which skin they're wearing, their outline should always be visible to others.

Rainbow Six Siege: Crystal Guard is reworking Twitch, Fuze, and IQ

Rainbow Six Siege: Crystal Guard has just been revealed, so now we've got a rundown of what'll be coming with the FPS game's next big update. Along with new operator Osa - and her nifty, bulletproof glass shield gadget - we've got the lowdown on map reworks coming for Bank, Coastline, and Clubhouse, as well as three Rainbow Six Siege operators: Twitch, Fuze, and IQ.

First up, attacker op. Twitch is seeing some changes to her unique ability, Shock Drones. These drones can now jump and will shoot lasers instead of tasers, meaning they've got infinite range to destroy enemy gadgets going forward. Additionally, Twitch will now begin each round in the preparation phase with a standard drone right alongside her two Shock Drones. This is aimed to fold in some extra utility for the operator, and allows her to be a bit more active during the prep phase as there's less risk that she'll see her valuable gadgets picked off.

As for fellow attacking op. Fuze, Ubisoft's giving his unique ability, Cluster Charges, some key change-ups by allowing them to now penetrate through reinforced walls. There is a trade-off to this, though - you'll now find these have a longer activation period, meaning defenders will have enough time to track them down and take out the protruding tube that detonates them.
