Rainbow Six Siege disruptions were caused by Ubisoft hack

For a small window last night, playing Rainbow Six Siege - or just about any Ubisoft multiplayer game - with your mates was next to impossible, as friends lists refused to load due to server degradation. This might sound like a familiar story for returning players, but this wasn't your run-of-the-mill technical hiccup. Instead, Ubisoft points to a "cyber security incident" causing the disruption.

It's difficult to know the extent of the attempted hack as Ubisoft doesn't go into detail while its IT teams are "working with leading external experts to investigate the issue." You can rest assured that your account details should be safe, though, as the company says there's currently "no evidence any player personal information was accessed or exposed as a by-product of this incident."

Still, it's worth ensuring you have two-factor authentication (2FA) switched on and changing your password just in case. Better yet, you could arm yourself with a trusty password manager to secure all your accounts, considering cyber attacks are a dime a dozen in this day and age.

Rainbow Six Siege director: "it's one of the top games in the world"

It's been a quiet couple of years for Rainbow Six Siege. Major content additions, such as new maps and operators, have slowed down to make room for dozens of technical improvements and quality of life changes. It's vital work, but it's also far less likely to convince someone to boot up than a new character who can change the way the game is played.

Creative director Alexander Karpazis and the team at Ubisoft is well aware of this predicament, and their solution comes in the form of Azami, a new operator with a gadget that can block lines of sight, patch up destroyed surfaces, and create entirely new defensive setups. She's a genuinely game-changing addition to the multiplayer FPS game, and according to Karpazis, her arrival in the upcoming Operation Demon Veil represents a return on the technical investments made over the past few seasons.

We spoke with Alexander Karpazis ahead of the release of the new season to learn more about Azami, the history of her development, Year 7, and the importance of restating Ubisoft's long-term ambitions for the game.

Rainbow Six Siege Operation Demon Veil has been delayed

March 8, 2022 Ubisoft confirm that Operation Demon Veil is due for release "next week" alongside an Animated Story Trailer for Azami. Copy has been updated to reflect this change.

The first major update for Rainbow Six Siege in 2022 is on the way, but fans of Ubisoft's tactical shooter may have to wait a bit longer than they expected for the start of Siege's Year 7 roadmap. Without an announcement specifying a release date, Ubisoft has delayed Operation Demon Veil by a week. The update was expected on March 8, but it looks like it's now scheduled to launch on March 15.

Originally, the This Week at Ubisoft blog post from February 25 revealed that Operation Demon Veil was expected to release on March 8. This information was corroborated by the Xbox Store - Reddit user 'Goldenwar0801' shared an image of the store showing this information. Now, though, it looks like the Xbox Store is showing a later date and the Ubisoft blog post has been updated with the March 8 release date removed.

Reddit user 'Chewyso1o' has shared an image of the updated Xbox Store page for Operation Demon Veil, displaying a March 15 release date, and we can confirm that this isn't an isolated incident.

Rainbow Six Siege's content drop for 2022 is almost here and there's a lot to look forward to. Ubisoft has revealed the new season is called Rainbow Six Siege Demon Veil - and the Y7S1 operation is introducing a new operator to the roster, a new permanent playlist, some major changes to key features, and much more.

Ahead of the official announcement, several leaks appeared online focusing on the new Rainbow Six Siege Demon Veil operator - however, they only painted part of the picture. The new operator, Azami, is the first defender on the roster with a gadget that can be used to patch up holes around the map. Her Kiba Barrier can be thrown to create a circular bulletproof barrier that's roughly the size of a window. Demon Veil is also introducing team deathmatch to Siege, as a permanent game mode, and attacker repicks for both casual and ranked playlists.
