Rainbow Six Siege's silent audio bugs are getting fixed next update

Ubisoft has confirmed that, in the next update to Rainbow Six Siege, it will fix some historic audio bugs that were uncovered by former pro player Niclas 'Pengu' Mouritzen last week.

Pengu, a two-time Six Invitational champion, shocked the community after he found and replicated a number of audio bugs which made certain in-game actions - such as throwing C4s or grenades, vaulting, and rappelling - completely silent. While this is cause for concern on its own, Pengu also found, using older versions of Siege, that the bugs have been in the game for a number of years. He also learned that some pro players have known about the bugs and kept them "secret" so they could exploit them in competitions.

Following Pengu's findings and direct bug reports to Ubisoft, Rainbow Six Siege's senior community developer Eric Pope has confirmed that the audio issues will be fixed in the next patch.

What if: Rainbow Six Siege got an XCOM-like strategy spinoff?

As someone who obsesses far too much about strategy games, the recent Rainbow Six Extraction reveal felt to me like a missed opportunity to do something different - but still very relevant - with the Rainbow Six brand.

Sure, it's a new tactical shooter similar to Rainbow Six Siege, except you're fighting aliens and it's all co-op. It's probably going to be fine, although deputy editor Jordan had some reservations. But what if - and hear me out - what if Ubisoft didn't stop there, and followed Extraction up with something completely different? How about an XCOM-like turn-based strategy game? Imagine that. We'll call it Rainbow Six Tactics.

When Firaxis reimagined the classic X-COM alien invasion wargame with 2012's XCOM: Enemy Unknown, it set a gold standard for squad-based tactical strategy games. It has everything: tight map design, deep class progression, smart integration of cover, cinematic animations, brutal permadeath, and even power armour that you can fly around in.

Rainbow Six Extraction's operators will all be ones you know from Siege

After spending some time under wraps, Rainbow Six Extraction recently emerged with the expected announcement that it would be ditching its former name "Quarantine". What it isn't letting go of, Ubisoft say, are all of the oh so many operators in Rainbow Six Siege. With so many to choose from, Ubisoft aren't designing new operators for their Left 4 Dead-like co-op shooter. Instead, they're going to be bringing some player favorite operators to Extraction, along with some who "haven’t received the amount of love we think they deserve".

Rainbow Six Siege crossplay: how to play with friends across platforms

Rainbow Six Siege, one of the best competitive FPS games out there, is finally getting crossplay. Yep, you heard that right - soon you'll be able to team up with friends on different platforms, but there are a few caveats.

Competitive integrity is a key focus for Ubisoft, so it'll come as no surprise that full crossplay between PC and console will not be available in Rainbow Six Siege. Ubisoft has stressed it is "wary" of adding such a feature, due to the advantages of mouse and keyboard over controllers.

So while the feature is coming, it won't be as open as some of the other FPS games on the market. But that's not neccessarily a bad thing. Here's everything we know about Rainbow Six Siege crossplay, including when it's coming, details on who will be able able to play together, and if you'll be able to turn it off.
