Rainbow Six Extraction's operators will all be ones you know from Siege

After spending some time under wraps, Rainbow Six Extraction recently emerged with the expected announcement that it would be ditching its former name "Quarantine". What it isn't letting go of, Ubisoft say, are all of the oh so many operators in Rainbow Six Siege. With so many to choose from, Ubisoft aren't designing new operators for their Left 4 Dead-like co-op shooter. Instead, they're going to be bringing some player favorite operators to Extraction, along with some who "haven’t received the amount of love we think they deserve".

Rainbow Six Siege crossplay: how to play with friends across platforms

Rainbow Six Siege, one of the best competitive FPS games out there, is finally getting crossplay. Yep, you heard that right - soon you'll be able to team up with friends on different platforms, but there are a few caveats.

Competitive integrity is a key focus for Ubisoft, so it'll come as no surprise that full crossplay between PC and console will not be available in Rainbow Six Siege. Ubisoft has stressed it is "wary" of adding such a feature, due to the advantages of mouse and keyboard over controllers.

So while the feature is coming, it won't be as open as some of the other FPS games on the market. But that's not neccessarily a bad thing. Here's everything we know about Rainbow Six Siege crossplay, including when it's coming, details on who will be able able to play together, and if you'll be able to turn it off.

Rainbow Six Siege pros have allegedly been exploiting an audio bug for years

If you've gotten hit with a grenade or C4 explosion out of nowhere in Rainbow Six Siege, it might have been a player exploiting an audio glitch in the multiplayer game. The silent C4/grenade bug has been well-known in the Siege community for some time, but it's mostly been written off as something that just happens every so often. Now, a former pro player has been able to replicate the bug, showing that it can be used deliberately to gain an in-game advantage.

Former G2 Esports Siege pro player Niclas 'Pengu' Mouritzen has posted videos to Twitter showing the bug in action. Normally, there's a sound cue that's audible to nearby players when you start to cook off a grenade or prep a C4 charge. The grenade's spoon flies off and there's a 'ping' sound, or a Velcro strap can be heard when you ready some C4. As Pengu's videos (below) show, the bug stops those sounds from playing, so enemy players don't get any warning that an explosive is inbound.

Pengu doesn't explain exactly how he's managed to reliably produce the bug, but it appears as though he's triggering the animation while moving from a crouched position to standing.

Pengu accuses pros of covering up Rainbow Six Siege audio bug exploits

While his days of competing full-time are now behind him, ex-Rainbow Six Siege pro Niclas 'Pengu' Mouritzen appears to have taken up a role as private investigator for the competitive Siege scene.

Over the course of the last 24 hours, the former G2 star has tested, uncovered, and reported to Ubisoft several audio bugs and exploits involving C4s, grenades, rappels, and more. Pengu has also criticised some in the pro Siege community, who he says have known about these bugs and have potentially been "abusing" them in competitions (including the coveted Six Invitational) for years.

Pengu's revelations begin with him tweeting that he had tested audio bugs that make "dropping hatches, vaulting, and ripping C4/nades" silent. He also later manages to replicate the bug to make throwing rappel ropes silent too. Following his discoveries, he then says he received several messages from pro players across multiple regions that these bugs had been in the game for "a year", but that none of them had reported them to Ubisoft.
