TfW Class 142 - Coming Soon!
The Story So Far...
[p][/p][p]We announced the TfW Class 142 back in our April Roadmap, with further updates coming from Just Trains since, including the addition of liveries for the Class 150 and Class 153 and details of the new timetable.[/p][p]There have also been details given in the Just Trains Development Blog.[/p][p][/p]
The Setting: Cardiff circa 2019
[p][/p][p]Bounce back to the Trafnidiaeth Cymru days of yesteryear with Just Trains’ detailed BR Class 142, transformed to reflect the teal-toned Pacers as they were in their last years of Welsh operation. Shuttle around the Cardiff City Network in Nodding Donkey style![/p][p]In this Add-on, revisit Cardiff City Network in the iconic Class 142 Pacer! Across an all-new 2019 timetable, embark on hundreds of services that shuttle around the city limits in classic bouncy fashion.[/p][p][/p]
The Trains

TfW Class 142 'Pacer'
[p][/p][p]The focus of this Add-on is the Class 142 'Pacer', first introduced to Train Sim World in Just Trains' first route Add-on: Blackpool Branches.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
[p]Much derided by many an enthusiast and commuters due to their loud engines and bumpy ride, these cheap, utilitarian ‘buses on rails’ lasted many decades in service, prompting headlines of “the train that never dies” and “Britain’s hated Pacer – the train that just won’t go away”. Their ‘temporary’ services lasted from 1984 right through until 2021 and saw them take to the rails across Britain – from Carlisle and Dumfries in the north, to Devon and Cornwall in the south as well as Wales.[/p]
[p]Initially, Pacers in Wales were run by Arriva Trains Wales. These were taken over by Transport for Wales in October 2018. In this Add-on the Class 142 will be adorned in a transition livery, when the Arriva names and logos were removed and the TfW branding was placed over the basic underlying Arriva livery.[/p][p][/p][p]In addition, the following changes have been made to reflect the more contemporary setting for the Pacer:[/p]
 • [p]LED Headlights[/p]
 • [p]Two-leaf bi-fold doors (replacing Four-leaf bi-fold doors)[/p]
 • [p]Updated door open/close operating buttons[/p]
 • [p]Sanding equipment fitted[/p]
 • [p]Non-operational 'smash glass to access' emergency door handle[/p]
 • [p]NRN and GSM-R antennas added to the roof[/p]
 • [p]New seat design and authentic moquette[/p]
 • [p]Operational DRA and TPWS[/p]
[p][/p][p]As with the Blackpool Branches Class 142, passenger announcements are implemented featuring an authentic native Welshman! These function the same way as the Blackpool Branches Pacer, being activated by a manual button in the cab.[/p][p][/p]
Class 150 and Class 153 DMUs
[p][/p][p]In addition to the Class 142, both the Class 150 and Class 153 DMUs receive the same style of ex-Arriva livery. These are only playable within the timetable specific to this Add-on and requires Cardiff City Network to unlock, as neither the Class 150 or 153 are included in the TfW Class 142 Add-on.[/p]
Timetable & Gameplay
[p]The new timetable included in this Add-on features service patterns from the period for the Class 142, 150 and 153 DMUs across the multiple branch lines stemming from Cardiff Central and Queen Street Stations.[/p][p][/p][p]A selection of new Scenarios are also included, with one featuring the headboard shown in the first screenshot of this article.[/p][p][/p][p]In our October Roadmap, Just Trains stated:[/p]
[p]"The timetable included is set in 2019 where the service pattern on the valley lines was quite different compared to how it is now. Instead of trains going from Coryton to Penarth the trains from Coryton instead went to Radyr (a journey much quicker by foot as it’s a U shape) and the Penarth trains instead go out of the map to Bargoed and Rhymney instead of Coryton."[/p]
[p][/p][p][/p]
[p]"Class 142’s run most of the valley line diagrams but in 2019 TfW had a couple of Class 37 diagrams with Mk2f’s running services up to Rhymney which you’ll be able to drive up to Heath High Level."[/p]
[p]These services will require Tees Valley Line and Class 86/2 loco (for the Mk2f Coaches) to operate.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]In addition, AI layers from other Train Sim World Add-ons are featured:[/p]
 • [p]GWR Class 802 and Class 150 services from Riviera Line[/p]
 • [p]A once-per-day CrossCountry Class 220 Voyager service[/p]
 • [p]GWR HST and Class 166 services from Great Western Express[/p]
 • [p]CrossCountry Class 170 services from Rivet Games' Class 170 Add-on[/p]
 • [p]Class 66 freight services from West Coast Main Line: London-Milton Keynes and Cargo Line Volumes 1 & 3[/p]
 • [p]Railhead Treatment Train[/p]
[p][/p]
8th Generation Console Gameplay
[p]After further reviewing performance on previous-generation consoles, Just Trains have amended this timetable to provide a suitable experience for these players (Xbox One and PlayStation 4).[/p][p]There will be no additional services (playable or AI) from layered content from other Add-ons.[/p][p][/p][p]Train Sim World 6: Transport for Wales BR Class 142 DMU will release on 25th November for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam for £12.99/€15.99/$16.99[/p][p]A user Manual for this Add-on will be made available shortly before or on release day.[/p][p][/p]
Preview Livestream
[p]Just Trains will be hosting the Preview Stream for the TfW Class 142 on their own YouTube Channel on 24th November.[/p][p]You'll also be able to join us for a Launch Day stream on the Train Sim World YouTube Channel on 25th November.[/p][p][/p]
The Route: Cardiff City Network
[p][/p][p]Gameplay for the TfW Class 142 requires Cardiff City Network, the first route in Wales to ever feature in Train Sim World![/p][p]This urban network style route Add-on runs along separate branches with the much more contemporary TfW branded Class 150 DMU, along with the 1-car Class 153 ‘Sprinter’.[/p][p][/p]
Train Sim World 6: Out Now
[p][/p][p]You can still upgrade to TSW6 by purchasing Standard, Deluxe or Special Editions. The latter includes a wider selection of routes to play, including Cardiff City Network.[/p][p][/p]

Cargo Line Volume 5: Nuclear - Out Now!

[p][/p][p]The gameplay in this Add-on simulates the movement of radioactive nuclear material up and down two stretches of the West Coast Main Line.[/p][p]The role of these trains is simple; safely carry nuclear flasks between power stations and processing centres across the UK. This important task has made them a popular and rare catch for enthusiasts, and despite the reduction in nuclear power plants since the millennium, the trains are still seen in use to this day.[/p][p][/p]
BR Class 20/3 locomotive

And FNA-D Flask Wagons
[p][/p][p][/p][p]The English Electric Type 1 / Class 20 locomotive, known to many as 'Choppers' (because of the distinctive engine sounds), first appeared in Train Sim World as a Loco Add-on for the Tees Valley Line, set in the early 1990s. Cargo Line Volume 5 introduces a new contemporary version, circa 2000.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Due to the volatile nature of their cargo, Nuclear trains are often operated with multiple locomotives at once. The modernised Class 20/3 was one such type of locomotive assigned to the role. Bookending the wagons between locos protects them against any direct impact, and additional diesel engines added contingency in case of a failure. Wherever possible, the Nuclear train must remain moving and is given high priority across the network.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Sandwiched between a pair of Class 20s is the FNA-D Nuclear Flask Wagon, new to Train Sim World.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Cargo Line Volume 5 adds Nuclear services and Scenarios to two stretches of the West Coast Main Line:
[p][/p][p][/p][p]West Coast Main Line: Preston - Carlisle[/p]
 • [p]3 Scenarios[/p]
 • [p]14 timetable services[/p]
[p][/p][p][/p][p]West Coast Main Line: London - Milton Keynes[/p]
 • [p]2 Scenarios[/p]
 • [p]4 timetable services[/p]
[p]Plus seasonal layered services for Riviera Line (other Add-ons required).[/p][p][/p][p]Train Sim World 6: Cargo Line Vol.5: Nuclear is out now for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam for £12.99/€15.99/$16.99[/p][p][/p]
Transport more freight with the Cargo Line Collection!
[p]If you're on Steam and you've yet to explore the other modes of freight and cargoes that are transported up and down the UK rail network, you can get all Volumes of Cargo Line in the Cargo Line Collection.[/p][p]This bundle also includes Skyhook Games' Midland Main Line route Add-on.[/p][p][/p][p]Find out more about Train Sim World 6 by following @trainsimworld on Twitter/X, Instagram, Threads, Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok.[/p]

This will add further gameplay to Cajon Pass and Scenarios to San Bernardino Line.[/p][p][/p]
The Route: Cajon Pass

[p]The Cajon Pass route Add-on is required to make use of the gameplay in the Santa Fe Add-on. The standard route and schedule is set in the early 2000s, featuring the bold livery of BNSF.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]85-miles (136 km) of route between Barstow and San Bernardino, California offer stunning scenery and challenging gradients for long freight consists. Unlike the Santa Fe pack, the Cajon Pass Add-on features the state-of-the-art ES44C4 diesel electric locomotive in addition to the BNSF variant of the SD40-2.[/p][p]Players of passenger-focused California route Add-ons San Bernardino Line and Antelope Valley Line can expand their operations with both layered services and Route Hopping with the Cajon Pass Add-on.[/p]

Train Sim World 6 Game Update - 13th November 2025

[p]Hello everyone,

We're pushing live our next core update today, bringing a range of improvements across core routes and locos, as well as additional improvements to Cardiff City Network, San Bernardino, Maintalbahn, Frankfurt Fulda, Thames Link Class 700 and Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn.

Performance has been a particular area of feedback that we’ve continued to work on for core routes, and we’ve made some optimisations to try and mitigate frame rate drops and deliver an overall smoother experience.

The Class 150 has had a large overhaul to its audio, including engine running sounds, safety systems, cab interaction audio, as well as doors and brakes. We’d greatly appreciate any further feedback from these changes.
[/p]
A Note On Birmingham-Crewe Improvements
[p]From our previous announcements, we had planned a wider range of improvements for the recent Birmingham-Crewe route to align with this update; however, whilst these changes are still undergoing testing and quality assurance from our teams, we're taking more time to ensure they're ready to be released as you'd expect.

We apologise that we've not been able to deliver these improvements to the timeline we originally communicated, and we hope to have more news on when you can expect these in December. We're grateful for the feedback shared from the community, and we'll continue passing these notes to the development teams to support the route as best as possible when we're able to share the updates.

This update is currently being shared across all platforms, including Steam, Epic Games and PlayStation/Xbox consoles. Please allow up to 24 hours for the update to be available on your systems.
