Player Spotlight: Steaks & Sorabayashi Wakako
◆ Character Summary ◆
[p][/p][p]Steaks & Sorabayashi Wakako[/p][p]Lyn Assassin /  Yun Blademaster Couple[/p][p]Blade & Soul[/p][p]Viridian Coast > Heaven’s Reach Server[/p][p][/p]
◆The Road to Blade & Soul◆
[p]“I was always fascinated with the finesse and swordplay in dramatized Wuxia fiction. Blademaster was a chance for me to embrace and experience that in a way many other MMOs don’t.”[/p][p][/p][p]How long you’ve been playing Blade & Soul?[/p][p]Steaks: Since NEO (Early March 2025) - right before the Bloodshade Patch[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: I started playing Blade & Soul around mid-February of 2016 (shortly after launch, if I recall), and I joined Blade & Soul NEO late February of 2025.[/p][p][/p][p]How did you each discover Blade & Soul?[/p][p]Steaks: Wakako one day asked me to play this reboot MMO of a game she played back in 2016. She had been trying to find a game we both would like and can play together.[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako:I think I first discovered the classic Blade & Soul through a television ad. I remember seeing Windwalking and gliding, and thinking it was just like the martial arts fantasy TV dramas. [/p][p]I talked about the game with a friend of mine, and within a few weeks, we had our own clan. When I found out about NEO, I was excited to get back into the Blade & Soul experience.[/p][p]
After getting familiar with the game, what kept you coming back?[/p][p]Steaks: Gameplay/Battle System, Character Design, Story was good. MAKING FUN OF THE VOICE ACTING (Sorry - examples later!)[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: One of the biggest aspects of Blade & Soul that always kept me coming back was the story and its thematic elements, the combat style, and dungeon/raid mechanics.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
◆Blade & Soul Through The Years◆
[p]“One of the biggest aspects of Blade & Soul that always kept me coming back was the story and its thematic elements, the combat style, and dungeon/raid mechanics.”[/p][p][/p][p]Why do you like the game type you’re currently playing (LIVE or NEO)?[/p][p]Steaks: So I have only put a few hours into LIVE, I’m mainly on NEO. I will say, I think I was spoiled with unlimited stamina… running around in LIVE has been a pain haha. Something about NEO just feels a bit more polished. I’ve had more weird terrain travel bugs in LIVE than I have in NEO lol.[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: Graphically, I like the polish in LIVE more, but I feel like there is also too much “new” to LIVE for me to pick back up again easily — steep learning curve. I’m very content with picking up NEO at its current pace and making friends along the way.[/p][p][/p][p]What do you like most about your current class?[/p][p]Steaks: Big DPS - Murder Lyn Attack[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: I was always fascinated with the finesse and swordplay in dramatized Wuxia fiction. Blademaster (especially in early B&S Live) was a chance for me to embrace and experience that in a way many other MMOs don’t. [/p][p]With NEO, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the challenge of juggling draw stance and Black Dragon uptime. I like that combat feels like a real-time action puzzle in some ways.[/p][p][/p][p]Have you always played this class? If not, what changed and why?[/p][p]Steaks: First time playing B&S in general, but I usually play assassin type classes in MMOs.[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: In both Live and NEO, Blademaster was my go-to first pick. Oddly enough, I don’t usually go for this style in other MMOs.[/p][p][/p][p]What was the first thing you remember doing together in-game?[/p][p]Steaks: The first thing I remember doing was farming Stalker Jiangshi because we really wanted an outfit right out the get go.[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako:  The first thing I remember was us doing character creation. Then, when we couldn’t find each other, we realized I messed up by creating my character on the wrong server, haha! For the longest time, we did most of the progression at the same pace, side by side.[/p][p][/p][p]What does Blade & Soul mean to you now?[/p][p]Steaks: It’s a small niche community of gamers who love the MMO aspect. And a bunch of nerds, for sure (me included).[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: The community may be small, but I think I’ve had more friendships that transcend the boundaries of this game than any other online game I’ve played.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
♥︎Love For Blade & Soul♥︎
[p]“As for playing Blade & Soul together, I’m always looking for activities and games to enjoy together with the people in my life. Blade & Soul NEO was on my radar, and on a whim, I asked him if he would be willing to give it a try.”[/p][p]
Did you meet your partner through Blade & Soul? If so, congratulations! How did you initially meet in-game? If not, how did you meet, and how did you start playing Blade & Soul together?[/p][p]Steaks: Hahaha… She was a friend of my ex (we all worked at an Anime Convention back in the day).[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: Haha, I used to be a friend of his ex. As for playing Blade & Soul together, I’m always looking for activities and games to enjoy together with the people in my life. Blade & Soul NEO was on my radar, and on a whim, I asked him if he would be willing to give it a try.[/p][p]
How did you grow closer through playing Blade & Soul? What was that process like?[/p][p]Steaks: We were already close before B&S, but it became a daily grind to get stronger together. It has become part of our daily routine to grind out our dailies and we stream it every Monday to Thursday night… and then play more off stream haha.[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: The daily grind is more or less regularly scheduled time together, even though he’s always carrying me and I’m playing catch-up. (Always carrying. -Steaks)[/p][p]We stream it together often, and it’s certainly something we play together almost daily.[/p][p][/p][p]Do any zones, dungeons, or moments in Blade & Soul feel “special” to you because of your relationship?[/p][p]Steaks: I think what made things special was how much we made each other laugh with some of the voice lines in the game. For example, why do the terra cotta soldiers in the Cinderlands TALK? Why do they yell BLOCKED or DEFENDED at me? Aren’t they statues? Also, there's a voice line in Blackram Support - where the guy you fight goes “TRANSSSFOOOOOOORM” and then has this super awkward moan. I always made that moan in voice or loud enough she could hear at her computer and that always made her break out laughing.[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: More often than not, it’s the voice lines. Honestly, whichever part of the game it comes from, inside jokes will always be a reminder of Blade & Soul. [/p][p][/p][p]Does it ever cause funny problems?[/p][p]Steaks: It causes us to sleep super late and wake up late sometimes. Sometimes we wake up just after World Boss on weekends… oops.[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: We’ve certainly molded our sleep and eating schedule around streaming (often Blade & Soul), events, and World Boss.[/p][p]
Are you competitive with each other? Who is the better player — honestly? [/p][p]Steaks: We are always competitive at everything we do. I’m the better player, I just do more damage.[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: I’m more of a maths person and sometimes make better numbers-based decisions, but he’s definitely got the stronger character by far. The irony is, I’m not optimized for DPS — I just play a build I find fun.[/p][p]
What is the funniest or most unexpected thing that has happened to you two in the game?[/p][p]Steaks: I never expected to hit top 10 again at world boss after the server merge. I think I’ve hit 2 and 3 when the whales weren’t on… but I do manage top 10 now! Surprising, honestly![/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: As far as unexpected goes, we’ve each had our moment in the spotlight for community hide and seek during livestreams. Those events had such high participation, and anyone in the community could have won![/p][p][/p][p][/p]
♥︎Memories♥︎
[p]“One time on a duo run, I grounded her and told her to sit in the corner so she wouldn't do that. She listened and I solo’ed the boss lol. GOD That attack drives me crazy…”[/p][p][/p][p]Your favorite Blade & Soul memory together:[/p][p]Steaks: My FIRST Heroic Electro-pierce… I opened my box and screamed into the mic. She knew exactly what had happened without me saying.[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: Honestly, anytime he has any really exciting moments in Blade & Soul, I feel a shimmer of that happiness and excitement, too, because I introduced him to the game.[/p][p]
Your favorite solo memories:[/p][p]Steaks: She has this attack that STUNS, and she does this dive bomb at the beginning of every encounter. I usually triple Knockdown at the beginning so every time she starts an encounter with this stun, it throws my rotation off. One time on a duo run, I grounded her and told her to sit in the corner so she wouldn't do that. She listened and I solo’ed the boss lol. GOD That attack drives me crazy…[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: Look, it’s easy and just feels good to enter a fight using Flying Sparrow or Divine Retribution! I know it drives him nuts, haha, so I try to do it less now. As far as solo memories go, I think the peak memory I have from back in the day on Live was grinding out Poharan and learning all of the fight’s ins and outs. I was so enamored by the “girl with a big gun” aesthetic, I even wanted to cosplay her once upon a time.[/p][p]
The biggest “we finally did it!” achievement together:[/p][p]Steaks: We kept trying to duo Soguns: Gardens, but just couldn't do enough DPS. After she upgraded a handful of equipment (she finally had hit all Winterbane at this point) and I had finally gotten a leggy EP, we FINALLY could do it. Next up: Attempting to Duo Soguns: Lament together![/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: Definitely, the duo Soguns Lament: Gardens run we were finally able to pull off has been the biggest. Before that milestone, it was duo Bad Bug Raid, and even further back, duo Blackram Supply Chain: Support.[/p][p]
A time when everything went hilariously wrong:[/p][p]Steaks: There are some times she is sleepy and either walks on autopilot, and does a lot of other things she normally would.[/p][p]One example is, Hongmoon Blocking at the wrong times, dashing into the boss at the wrong times, etc. She knows exactly when she messes up and calls herself out on it right after and we all have big laughs, stuff happens (especially when you're tired!)[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: There’s been a couple of runs of Sundered Nexus: Upper Floor and Frenzy Avalanche Den where I’ll get revived and die again before my feet even touch the ground, multiple times in the same fight. That one’s always wild. But yeah, I do sometimes mess things up because of sleepiness, or muscle memory kicking in before I’ve actually processed what I’m seeing on screen.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
◆Clan and Community◆
[p]“We hung out with some clan members at Anime Expo - went and visited the B&S Heroes booth. We made some irl friends from this game, kept some, and got rid of some. C’est la vie!”[/p][p] Have you been part of a clan together?[/p][p]Steaks: We were invited to join “Hell” in Viridian Coast. Most quit around server merge, and we were sick of pugging all the time. Then Mantoubunz told me to message “Near Death”’s clan leader - and we’ve been here since.[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: As he said — I more or less tag along where he goes. I’m more of a wallflower until I get to know people, and even then, I prefer more one-on-one conversations.[/p][p][/p][p]What role did your clan or friends play in your story?[/p][p]Steaks: Wakako and I did everything duo, up until Infernal Lord, where we started looking for groups. We met some cool people at Bad Bug Raid - and eventually they took us into their clan. That's where we were able to get stronger with the help of the clan.[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: Clanmates and friends have definitely played a big part in helping me complete dungeon runs and learn boss rotations.[/p][p]
Any favorite or legendary clan memories?[/p][p]Steaks: I can never forget the hours spent in Training Base shouting at each other while we learned boss rotations, HMB and party stealth timing, etc. I remember being in there for 2 hours with the clan shouting “TANK! PIZZA! TANK! AOE!!” We suffered for sure but when we finally beat it, after 2 hours, we all LEARNED the rotations. Subsequent runs became stupid easy! Wakako and I still shout rotation steps out loud when we learn new dungeons.[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: What he said. I remember the Cold Storage calls of “He’s cowarding! He’s mad!” (Do you have any funny stories involving rival clans or players?[/p][p]Steaks: One time, a cerulean destro was shouting at Wakako “WHERE IS STEAKS” because he wanted to pvp… I was literally like a few feet away in Mushin’s Tower…[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: Oh my goodness, that guy…! The funny thing is, I had been AFK in Mushins, so I suspect he thought I was ignoring him.[/p][p][/p][p]What’s your favorite B&S meme, joke, or community inside-joke?[/p][p]Steaks: We knew someone who had poor sleep habits, and would always fall asleep during dungeon runs; specifically Cold Storage. With the old clan, the phrase “Winter is coming” is something we made fun of him using - since we heard that voice line well over 100 times that night…[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: I think my favorite line from Live is “Read the letter, Cricket!”, but certainly, there are a lot of inside jokes. “The early Cricket gets the… worm? Or doesn’t the worm get the cricket? That can’t be right.”[/p][p][/p][p]Has B&S ever crossed into your real life?[/p][p]Both: Meetups! We met our old Viridian Coast Clan “Hell” at Disneyland, that was super fun. We also met Kellpak there! We hung out with some clan members at Anime Expo - went and visited the B&S Heroes booth.[/p][p]We made some irl friends from this game, kept some, and got rid of some. C’est la vie![/p][p][/p][p][/p]
◆World, Zones, & Content◆
[p]“The in-game flavor text says “Even the champion of the Hongmoon Clan cannot outswim the tide of destiny.” We then proceeded to have every clan member run out and die to the tide of destiny.”[/p][p][/p][p]NPCs or bosses you’re oddly attached to: [/p][p]Steaks: Poharan is cute, Chef is Mommy. [/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: I’ve been attached to Poharan since the days of Live. I spent countless hours learning to solo Poharan back in the day, and she still holds a special place in my heart for her character design. I do have a newfound appreciation for Tae Jangum, though.[/p][p]
What is your favorite zone in the game and why?[/p][p]Steaks: MSP is probably my favorite, it's just gorgeous.[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: MSP is definitely beautiful - it’s a shame we can only be in there for so long. Otherwise, I would love to just run around taking screenshots. If only there were a photo-mode version of MSP where every enemy was “passive”, no loot, no EXP, but unlimited time. My next favorite is Blackram Supply Chain, in its full B&S Live single-dungeon glory. I spent so much time there back in the day.[/p][p][/p][p]Where do you have some of your best memories?[/p][p]Steaks: There is this part near the beach factions, that if you go TOO far away from the main area you just DIE. The in-game flavor text says “Even the champion of the Hongmoon Clan cannot outswim the tide of destiny.” We then proceeded to have every clan member run out and die to the tide of destiny.[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: Probably Blackram Supply, Blackram Command, and Cold Storage. That was the era when I really felt a contributing part of a team, playing with my clan.[/p][p][/p][p]Favorite Blade & Soul events of all time:[/p][p]Steaks: Silverfrost Launch Party! Purple Selector was HUGE back then.[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: I think the Silverfrost Launch Party was my favorite community event, especially the hide & seek and the dash across the Silverfrost region.[/p][p]Both: We enjoyed Hide & Seek with Rownen. We would always try to race to see if we could find him.[/p][p]
Was there a specific update, patch, or era that felt like the “golden age” for you?[/p][p]Steaks: Pre server-merge. The first clan we were in were active, made good friends, and had good times. Post server merge, they all slowly quit or just never came back. Currently, this era feels good. I can carry people and I'm only 1-2 patches behind still haha.[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: Shortly before server merge. I actually felt like my damage output was somewhat competitive. Back then, I hit top 10 a couple times at World Boss when the whales didn’t show up. Now, I’m just the clan backpack — always getting carried.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
◆Looking Ahead◆
[p]“Really, thank you all for making runs amazing (and miserable) - may leggys bless each and every one of you one day. Keep on the hard grind! Thanks for the great memories.”[/p][p][/p][p]What are your hopes for the future of Blade & Soul?[/p][p]Steaks: Is there where I put in my requests ;) like a Lyn Destroyer with an axe the size of a Gon? Or you know, Gunslinger? I hope the game stays alive and we get new players & classes. Might need to look at early game / new player experience for that. I’m thankful there's a lvl 45 skip at least, vs LIVE where you pay for a lvl 60 ticket, or grind it.[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: When I went on hiatus from B&S Live, a lot of new classes dropped. I would really like to try my hand at playing Warden on B&S NEO.[/p][p][/p][p]Anything else you’d like to say to the Blade & Soul community?[/p][p]Steaks: Really, thank you all for making runs amazing (and miserable) - may leggys bless each and every one of you one day. Keep on the hard grind! Thanks for the great memories.[/p][p]Sorabayashi Wakako: I know many people were hoping for a proper “NEO Classic” experience when NEO launched, but I appreciate everyone who stuck around to help make the game experience what it is today. There are some really wonderful people willing to host dungeon carries and share reliable suspicious ritual/field boss information in world chat.[/p][p][/p]

Player Spotlight: Alice KR Stuff Discord
𑄝 Characters 𑄝
[p]Blade & Soul[/p][p]Alice Quinn[/p][p]Force Master[/p][p]NA Yura[/p][p][/p][p]Blade & Soul NEO[/p][p]Ivy[/p][p]Force Master[/p][p]NA Viridian[/p][p][/p][p]Alice KR Stuff Discord[/p][p]Alice[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Greetings Warriors,[/p][p][/p][p]I am Alice from the Blade & Soul Discord “Alice KR Stuff”. My Discord became a place for players to find information about future content and help players make informed decisions when playing the game. I wanted to share my story of how I started Blade & Soul and how my Discord came to be. I have spent many years translating content and developer letters, so I felt it was time to write my own letter to the community.[/p][p][/p]
𑄝 Discovery 𑄝
[p]I started playing the game back in 2016. While the game had launched in January, I did not find the game until that summer. Before B&S, I tried a few MMOs playing solo, with the last being Guild Wars 2. Outside of MMOs, I enjoyed playing Sid Meier's Civilization. I never stuck to an MMO for a long period of time until I discovered B&S. The combat of the game, the customization of the characters and the cosmetics are what really caught my eye and made me want to keep playing. I started Blade & Soul with the Force Master class. My second option would have been Assassin since that was the type of class I had played in Guild Wars 2, but Force Master stood out to me the most and looked like it was the most fun.[/p][p][/p][p]Art by: Vivi[/p][p][/p]
𑄝 My Story 𑄝
[p]“This raid was the most fun I have had in the game. We spent hours together progressing and laughing at our mistakes. I was fortunate enough to be able to raid with some of the kindest players in the game, which made this one of the most enjoyable moments for me.”[/p][p][/p][p]The game’s combat and mechanics felt very different from previous MMOs I’ve tried and found myself playing every day. I spent most of my early time just running dungeons multiple times a day to get cosmetics. I had always been a solo player or played with a friend. It wasn’t until I was invited to a party by a player named ObseneTangerine to run a dungeon with his clan, that I started to take the game more seriously. They invited me to join the clan Ares. It was a very small and friendly group of skilled players who showed me how to become a better player. I learned how to really play my class in PvE and PvP.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]The clan slowly grew and we were recruiting players as we had news B&S was going to get its first raid. Skybreak Spire or also referred to as Black Tower (BT) was what really defined the game for me. Running hard mode dungeons in 4 player mode was only fun for a while until it just became a grind to get gear. Having a raid with 24 players all having to work and progress together showed me the real enjoyment in an MMO. This raid was the most fun I have had in the game. We spent hours together progressing and laughing at our mistakes. I was fortunate enough to be able to raid with some of the kindest players in the game, which made this one of the most enjoyable moments for me.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]The release of Scion’s Keep and Temple of Eluvium or Vortex Temple (VT) brought out a more competitive side. I was spending a lot more time focusing on getting gear and doing PvP after the first raid. With the release of the second raid, we were more ready and serious about clearing. We spent even more time progressing with even longer raid sessions. This is when my gaming experience changed going forward. I was being more competitive with ranking and doing more 6v6 PvP maps. I wasn’t the best by any means, but I want to thank all the PvP players for not flaming me and Longzhu for being my duo and carrying me.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]When my clan Ares closed, I spent most of the time just playing with friends without a clan. We had a lot of fun doing our own things with our small group of friends. We eventually were recommended to join a clan called Imperious. I was hesitant at first, but I was convinced it would be a fun place to start over. Unfortunately, this was met with a lot of drama early on around the release of the third raid, Nightfall Sanctuary (TT). This raid was infamous for creating drama in the community causing clans to close, ending friendships and players quitting. This caused my entire friend group to either quit or go on an extended break soon after. With none of my friends to play with, I also took a break from the game. This was a low point in my B&S career facing that level of drama that I haven’t dealt with before. It left a lot of uncertainty if I wanted to continue playing B&S. I want to say thank you to Spacefiller for speaking up and pushing back against hateful comments during this time.[/p][p]After taking a few months off from the game, I eventually started playing again and played with some friends that were still around. I played with a lot of different groups and different clans throughout the year. Eon was the clan that I would spend the most time around as most of my friends hang out in their Discord. Tequila Monster was a very helpful and friendly person to play with. He was always willing to take you into a dungeon and teach you the mechanics, especially when I was just coming back to the game. I started to enjoy the game again and formed a new friend group to play with including Longzhu, Rhazenshia, Panda, Jiwon, and Nana. I would continue playing the game for over a year without any clans until a friend of mine mentioned he was thinking about joining one. Lucindre was running content with a clan called Eris for a while and told me he would be joining them. I have been friends with Lucindre for years and we shared the same thoughts about clans, so I trusted his judgement. We both joined Eris and right away it was a different environment than I expected. It was a big clan, but it had a lot of friendly and welcoming people that reminded me of my first clan Ares. I convinced my friends to join as well and made a lot of new friends and memories there. Eris brought back a lot of the competitive side of gaming I had missed, and I was clearing content on release. We were also clearing raids within the first week. I spent the rest of my B&S time in Eris until I eventually quit B&S around 2021. Thank you to everyone that I played with over the years and the friends that carried me through dungeons.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]The next four years were spent hanging out in my Discord and trying to be helpful with the knowledge I had. I thought my days of playing B&S were over, until they announced NEO. NEO was an interesting and different take on B&S, and it made me curious to try it. NEO launched in February of 2025 and I played at launch with the name Ivy. I played on the Viridian Server trying to avoid a lot of the older B&S players. I mostly wanted to play anonymously, running dungeons with random people. This brought back a lot of enjoyment from the early days of B&S and I met a lot of new people. I had a lot of fun from the nostalgia of the game but ended up quitting only a couple of months later to focus more on real life obligations. Thank you to all the new and interesting people I met along the way in NEO that made it an enjoyable experience.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
𑄝 Discord 𑄝
[p]“I didn’t intend for the Discord server to become what it is today, but I don’t regret it happening. I have met a lot of amazing people over the years. There were a lot of challenges along the way, but I learned a lot of useful skills as a result.”[/p][p][/p][p]I saw Discord as an easy way to organize my information for games. I would create servers just to have a quick and easy way to find information while I’m in game. I had multiple servers I would name “Alice Stuff” or “Alice BNS Stuff”. I spent most of my time looking at and trying to get cosmetics in the game. That’s when I started looking towards other regions for cosmetics that hadn’t come to NA yet. That is when I created “Alice KR Stuff” to organize all the cosmetics to make it easy to link someone who asked me for it, instead of having to search through all the images in my folder. This Discord was created in February of 2019. Eventually, people would ask for more information. This is when I decided to just invite some of my friends to the Discord so they could search through the information for themselves. The original members were Longzhu, Compliant, Salomae, Tequila Monster, Tangle and Teliona.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]During this time, we had streamers from the Korean Server who contributed heavily to the community. They were always open to answer questions and provide information. While they might not be around any longer, I wanted to thank Skelly1, Kisoo, Nodah, and Nyan. They were the people I watched the most and had the most influence on how my Discord would turn out. In April 2019, an invite link was posted into one of those streamer’s Discord and I woke up to hundreds of unread messages. It went from 8 people to over 400 overnight. I was completely caught off guard by all the pings and questions, but I did my best to help everyone. I was completely unprepared for something like this, since I never intended to create a public Discord for everyone to join. The Discord was not set up for that, and I had to quickly learn about moderation, channel permissions and using Discord bots. I was adding a lot more information to the server than I originally intended to. I was spending more time working on the Discord than playing B&S. I had to start adding moderators to help as I saw the Discord growing very quickly. By the same time next year, the Discord was over 4000 users. It peaked at around 7300 users in 2025.[/p][p]I didn’t intend for the Discord server to become what it is today, but I don’t regret it happening. I have met a lot of amazing people over the years. There were a lot of challenges along the way, but I learned a lot of useful skills as a result. Moderation was the hardest part of running a Discord server. Having to figure out what a Regex is to combat phishing and hacking attempts will probably be the hardest thing I had to do. There were always new ways people were getting their accounts hacked on the platform. I wanted my server to be completely safe from that, which was a lot harder to do behind the scenes. I was playing B&S a lot less or stopped playing for most of the time the Discord server was around. This allowed me to just run the Discord during my free time. I have spent more hours working on the Discord than I have played B&S.[/p][p]The Discord seems to have filled a very specific niche that didn’t exist for B&S. I don’t think the type of Discord and the way it was set up existed for most games in general. There wasn’t really a place to go and find information about upcoming content from a different region in the way it was presented. I wanted people to be able to look for exactly what they wanted to know without having to see the same questions asked multiple times. I made use of Discord features in a different and unique way that wasn’t what it was intended for.[/p][p]The B&S players can be tough to handle, but I did my best to help everyone and be fair to everyone. There were many times I wanted to just delete everything and walk away. The reason I never did it was because of all the information that was on that server. It was like an archive of B&S. There were many times I received DMs from people looking for a very specific type of information that was found somewhere in my Discord.[/p][p]After years of advocating for an official Discord server for B&S, one was created in 2024. With an official place for players to communicate with the community managers and a single place for everyone to go with questions, my Discord, along with the other B&S community Discords, were no longer necessary. My Discord saw a lot less activity during 2025. While this may seem like a bad thing, I see it as something that needed to happen. Without playing B&S for a while, I have lost touch with the current state of the game and was not able to help people as much as before. There is now a single place for everyone to find help, and that will benefit the community even more. My Discord has become just a place to talk about random games, off topic discussions and the best place to get cat emojis. I will still try to update the information, when possible, but my moderators along with myself have become busy outside of B&S.[/p][p]I want to thank everyone who was part of my Discord community over the years, who contributed to the discussions, helped me with information and provided endless knowledge in areas I had none before. I met a lot of people not just in NA, but in every other region B&S was available. My hopes for my Discord community going forward is to just try being a friendly place for people to hang out.[/p][p]My Discord couldn’t have made it without the help of my moderators and contributors, so I wanted to thank Longzhu, Kiwi, 888Jmabo888, Brice, Hallie J, Nyewi, Leody, Ted, Teliona, Compliant, Darksma, Tsuki, Heyu, Nanami, Bananan, Hora, Konbo, Stone, Yasin, Ayame_Rikku, Noira and LEaN. They helped contribute to the Discord over the years and I couldn’t have done it without them.[/p][p][/p]
- Alice
[p][/p][p][/p]
𑄝 A Word from my Mods 𑄝
[p][/p][p]Hallie J[/p][p]My experience with Blade and Soul has been pretty good. Honestly, it's a really fun game to play and I've met a lot of nice people along the way. One day I got invited to Alice KR Discord server by a player in game. It was a very informative Discord with lots of nice Blade & Soul players.[/p][p]The information contained in the server was very valuable and the server atmosphere and vibes were nice. I had good interactions with other people in the chats and had a good time. A while into me being in the server Alice made me a moderator.[/p][p]Being a moderator for Alice has honestly been a joy. I enjoy helping around the server and working under Alice to help bring advanced information and news and anything else the community needs to be successful and plan ahead. I primarily write a summary of the patch notes each patch and publish them, so players in many other Discord servers who are subscribed to the channel can see it and know what is coming.[/p][p]When us moderators have questions, Alice has always made time for us and made us moderators feel seen and heard. Alice and her Discord server I feel has been a pillar of the community for years now and hopefully years to come, as the game keeps going.[/p][p][/p][p]Tsuki[/p][p]My character's name is Tsuki WL. I played on Windrest EU before merging. I played Blade & Soul for 6 years (2016-2021). I was a Warlock player, and I liked my class because it is a support class and I was able to support the team.[/p][p]I first discovered Blade and Soul as a recommendation from my brother. What caught my interest was the Wuxia style and fluid combat. I kept coming back to the game because I was able to build a community and had my own clan.[/p][p]I played Live and I also tried Neo. I didn't enjoy Neo because the skill system was not to my liking. One of my favorite parts of Blade and Soul was getting excited for Thursdays to come because Bethany and Jonathan would be showcasing the upcoming content on a Live stream. I would then compare it to the information that I already had from the Chinese and Korean servers, such as new systems, new weapons, and new upgrades. My favorite zone in the game was Nightshade Harbor, hands down. My best memories are from raids and large group content. Level 45 was the best golden age for me.[/p][p]Blade & Soul and Discord introduced me to a lot of new people who later became friends from all over Europe and the US.[/p][p][/p][p]Nyewi[/p][p]The B&S community, just like any other MMORPG community, has always looked for information to prepare for upcoming patches and gear, especially when it comes to upgrading costs and damage prioritization. Alice created this community to share information from the Korean servers (the main server, always ahead of the others) and to spread knowledge that is otherwise hard to obtain due to the region being closed off and the heavy language barrier.[/p][p]Thanks to the Alice KR Stuff Discord, I’ve met dozens of people who share the same passion for the game, with all kinds of different characters and personalities to interact with. It has become a central source for information, discussion, and theory crafting, as well as a place to analyze meta shifts and changes together with players from all around the globe.[/p][p]The Server has always been the most passionate place to have updated breakthroughs from every B&S Server as it is driven by passionate Moderators assisting Alice in gaining resources of other B&S released regions, making it the ultra B&S information hub. Whoever plays B&S, back in the days or today, the name Alice rings a bell as the calm and always helpful person, making them a perfect Leader and my boss of content updates for B&S Live.[/p][p]The memes and emotes fulfill a perfect role in the Discord server as they are always up to date with the season. At any time of the day there is someone out of the Alice KR Discord community to have a chat about anything and everything, even outside of B&S content like politics, memes, anime, stock trading and other video games of current interest. Deep down we are all hoping for a revival of the old B&S genre and that is why we are still stuck there.[/p][p][/p][p]Kwinera aka Kalina Alba[/p][p]I began playing Blade & Soul in 2016, and it was a genuinely magical experience from the start. I quickly fell in love with the game and met people who would eventually become close friends. As the game evolved and I became more geared, I noticed many newer players struggling with content, so I made it a point to help—whether that meant carrying them through dungeons or taking the time to explain mechanics. Along with friends, I helped build and support a clan and Discord server focused on recruiting players and teaching mechanics in new content, which was incredibly rewarding.[/p][p]As my real-life responsibilities grew and my playtime decreased, I still wanted to give back, so I became a moderator in Alice’s Discord server, created helpful reference sheets for things like HM levels, Gildstones, and Soul Badges, and kept my DMs open for anyone seeking advice. More recently, I became a content creator for NCA, streaming both to give away coupons provided by the NCA team and to showcase the game’s combat and visuals that I love so much. I hope to continue being a positive presence and a reliable resource for the community and those who follow my content for as long as I’m able too.[/p][p][/p][p]Ted[/p][p]I’ve been involved with the server for about five years now. I started out mostly doing translations, but I eventually took the lead in the Hoyoverse section.[/p][p]I feel that the server is an information hub that bridges the gap between regional servers and players. Under Alice’s leadership, the community has successfully consolidated a niche group of players who are either passionate about the game or technically proficient in translation, or both. By interpreting Korean patch notes and updates ahead of their Western release, the server provides valuable information that allows top players and their clans to strategize for difficult raids. Being one of the translators within the community, I was able to meet a ton of different people from a variety of different regions. I also remember writing detailed guides on Astromancer and dungeons such as the Doll House.[/p][p]I’ve gained some good friends from the server. Whether it was during my time in Blade & Soul or more recently with Hoyoverse, I’ve been able to develop great friendships thanks to the experiences from the server. I’m especially proud of my friendship with Jambo, someone who has gone out of his way to help with everything from Blade & Soul translations, Maplestory help, and Hoyoverse discussions.[/p][p][/p]

Linda Hime - Former Community Manager
[p][/p][p][/p][p]Introduce yourself! Your name, role(s), and when you worked on Blade & Soul:[/p][p]Greetings Crickets! I’m Linda Hime, you may remember me as your former community manager, livestream host, and the boss of good ol’ Justin. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]One Blade & Soul moment that still sticks with you:[/p][p]I must say it’s hard to pick one moment that stuck with me. We’ve had the wild ride that was the launch party in 2015, and each game update has been more intense than the last! If I had to pick one moment, it was the Warlock 3rd specialization livestream during the pandemic. It was a small update so I was like “I can do this livestream on my own since I play Warlock and all!” Everything was going well and I was showing off the new Aerodome. As I tried to enter the area, my game client disconnected. I had planned for most situations, but I did not expect to get disconnected so I literally stared at my screen, my face basically read “this did not just happen” for like 2 seconds before I switched to the brb screen. Chat was laughing. I laughed, reminding viewers that I was on the test server (I was!). I did disconnect again but I recovered much better the second time. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]A favorite or memorable moment involving the players or community:[/p][p]This was another livestream situation. I was doing a Blade & Social livestream with Justin, and suddenly I bursted into a coughing fit. When I recovered, I read in chat where somebody asked me if I had allergies. That’s when I learned my coughing fits were a symptoms of my allergies! I had no idea! So I learned something new about myself thanks to that player. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Why Blade & Soul mattered to you, or what made it special:[/p][p]What makes video games so beautiful are the player communities. There are so few products where people come together passionately to share their feedback and concerns because they care. Blade & Soul was the same. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Anything else you'd like to say to the community:[/p][p]I would say keep sharing feedback whether positive or negative. Your voice is valued even if it doesn’t feel that way. And don’t give your current community manager too hard of a time.[/p][p][/p]

[p][/p]
Stephane Lo Presti - Former Content Marketing Strategist
[p][/p][p][/p][p]Introduce yourself! Your name, role(s), and when you worked on Blade & Soul:[/p][p]Hi! My name is Stephane Lo Presti. I was the Blade & Soul Content Marketing Strategist from February 2022 to June 2023.[/p][p][/p][p]
One Blade & Soul moment that still sticks with you:[/p][p]The high point of my time on Blade & Soul was the marketing campaign we put together for the “Symphony of Destruction” update that introduced the Musician class in October 2022. We worked for many months to learn all the details about this very large patch, getting deep into the tank to make sure that the release would land well, including making changes specifically for the Western audiences. We brainstormed a lot of promotion ideas and did fun things like the interactive YouTube video, the contest with a Grand Prize of a Zither instrument, or the preview livestream with Brett Jaxel! And then, the day of release was upon us and we enjoyed watching the community have fun with the new class.[/p][p][/p][p]
A favorite or memorable moment involving the players or community:[/p][p]In all honesty, there wasn’t a single moment that stood out during that year, but instead the entirety of that period felt like an incredible effort to connect with that community. I very much enjoyed engaging daily with the Blade & Soul community on the forums and social media. They helped me understand the game, their expectations, hopes, and also gave us ideas! This relationship with the community was so good that the game producers, Andrew and Michelle, started writing regular Letters from the Producer (with adorable Chibi pictures).  While I was fairly discreet in-game, I started becoming more public at the end of 2022 and remember having a ton of fun playing the Windwalking Race with them.[/p][p][/p][p]
Why Blade & Soul mattered to you, or what made it special:[/p][p]I played the original game when it was released in 2016, but I was too busy to keep up with the updates. So coming back to this game and playing it daily reminded me what I liked about it, and surprised me with how much it improved since launch. Plus, having an active community to engage with made this experience so much more special. We play MMOs to connect, share our love of stories, virtual worlds, and gameplay mechanics. Blade & Soul still has an incredible combat system to this day. But also, for this year I worked on Blade & Soul, I got to work closely with a great team of coworkers, so shoutout to Nico, Olga, Lance, Ron, Joslyn, Pauline, Ara, and John in addition to the people I mentioned above! Last but not least, it was very special to work closely with the Blade & Soul development team at NCSOFT In Korea.[/p][p][/p][p]
Anything else you'd like to say to the community you can say here:[/p][p]There’s a very special memory I have about the Blade & Soul game. I was once at the NCSOFT office in Seattle, visiting a few Community Management colleagues. In between meetings, I was asked if I was fluent in French as my accent gave it away. It turns out that on that particular day, the production team was working on localized VO for an upcoming release and they needed a French person to record a few lines. I jumped on the opportunity and went into the audio recording booth to speak a few French lines. I’m not sure what the Blade & Soul update was but I’m proud that my voice was in that build. 😊[/p][p]Thanks for welcoming me to your community, even if it was for a shorter time than I anticipated. You didn’t make it hard for me to be a part of it; you helped me grow as a human being and professional, and you taught me the values of dedication and passion. We rarely get to say proper goodbyes online as it’s all digital, and real-life sometimes breaks our communication patterns, so I’m sincerely glad that I get to say these few words for Blade & Soul 10th Anniversary. I’ve been playing online games long enough to know how rare it is for games to live that long, and I hope the community gets to enjoy many more years of fun together. Cozzy - Quality Assurance
[p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Introduce yourself! Your name, role(s), and when you worked on Blade & Soul:[/p][p]My name is Cozzy and I am part of the QA Team. I joined quite some time ago and started B&S during the release with the Sin class. I did Sum, BD and FM, but I have been doing this QA role regularly since the Gunslinger release. When using my Sin, I am a shadow enjoyer of PvP, while the other classes are heavily made for PvE. I currently play on EU server, and if you see me you can invite me (given that I am free) for DB runs or HM, or just photos. I'm down for it, but my gears are only optimized for S3-4 runs, but I'm practicing on ZA nowadays.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]One Blade & Soul moment that still sticks with you:[/p][p]This is quite new and fresh, but it has really stuck with me. I remember the community discussing the drops in Ebondrake Lair, an old heroic dungeon where a stunningly beautiful outfit drops. People have been discussing this on the official Discord server, trying to find proof that it really drops. Ashira, our moderator, asked the team to run the dungeon hundreds of times to prove that the outfit drops, so that the community wouldn't waste time running the dungeon only to find out that it doesn't. I did it, and other people found it suspicious until they tried and got the drop. I think it's hilarious that I got the drop after 70–100 attempts. It was quite painful farming, but some people got it after only 10–20 attempts. I think this has brought back old dungeon farming more often, allowing more people who are passionate about “endgame outfit” farming to be closer, and I wish we could open more dungeons with outfit drops.[/p][p]As a QA role, it's the day-by-day moment of back-and-forth emails of bug reports, features, or improvement suggestions for the game to the devs. :)[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]A favorite or memorable moment involving the players or community:[/p][p]It’s always been the people who communicate their issues and opinions about the future of the game that have always been memorable. I could name them but it's a long list.[/p][p]From a QA standpoint, my most memorable moments involving the players are those who discover Easter Eggs before the QA team does. This ranges from finding hidden NPCs/assets in the game to uncovering hidden areas. Not to mention the hilarious character and boss glitches haha.[/p][p]There have been quite a lot of memorable moments with the community ever since we started using Discord. For example, my favorite BnS character is now an emoji called “Cozzydo”. Shoutout to the maker of this emote xD. It is used in lots of conversations, whether they're game-related or not. People use it for trolling and memes in chat, and so on.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Why Blade & Soul mattered to you, or what made it special:
Blade and Soul is a very special game to me. Not just because I have spent almost my entire career with the title, but because it is the community that makes me want to do more, deliver, and work hard for what they deserve. It’s their perseverance to keep playing the game in good and bad times while also making suggestions to make the game a better place for the current, new, returning, and veteran players. It is their passion that makes us strive to go beyond what we are capable of.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Anything else you'd like to say to the community, you can say here:[/p][p]Doing this job isn’t always easy. Believe it or not, we can’t catch everything. With that in mind, I would like to thank the community for continuously reporting in-game issues and voicing your opinions about the upcoming patches. This gives us time to make adjustments, and while these don't always happen, we never give up on what we believe is best for this community. This year, our team will continue to push the boundaries in the hope of implementing the changes players ask for.[/p][p]From the beginning, I have never really been involved with players or the community, as I have always kept a low profile in the game and put work first. I used to read forum feedback, both positive and negative. However, with the help of Bear, Rownen and the staff who established the Discord and introduced the hard-working moderators, I was encouraged to engage directly with the community and listen to their feedback through the game and Discord. This enables the team to attempt to implement the changes we all desire, ensuring that the game continues to prosper. Please continue reaching out to the staff, as we always listen and try to deliver regardless of the results. Cheers![/p][p][/p][p][/p]

[p][/p]
Nicolas Coutant (Former B&S Senior Producer)
[p][/p][p][/p][p]Introduce yourself! Your name, role(s), and when you worked on Blade & Soul:
My name is Nico, and I was a Senior Producer for Blade & Soul from 2015 to 2020.[/p][p][/p][p]One Blade & Soul moment that still sticks with you:
I had to rewrite my answer multiple times – too many that stand out! But I will say playing the game for the very first time on the Korean servers is something that I still remember fondly. I experienced a bit of that first MMO feeling where everything is new and exciting, and after my first play session, I was hooked.[/p][p][/p][p]A favorite or memorable moment involving the players or community: [/p][p]There are so many [/p][p][/p][p]I think seeing our NA and EU esports teams competing in the Blade & Soul World Championship against the best players from other regions was a pretty epic moment. Those events required so much planning and logistics, but in the process, we would get to work and meet with players and community members, which was the best part.[/p][p][/p][p]Why Blade & Soul mattered to you, or what made it special: [/p][p]For me, it was the Journey. Hyung-tae Kim’s art, the amazing world design, the beautiful music, the captivating revenge story, and of course, the world-class combat are what made this game truly special for me. Working on the game and meeting the developers was the cherry on top. It shaped much of the rest of my career, and for that, it will always matter to me.[/p][p][/p][p]Anything else you'd like to say to the community?
While we brought this game to market, ultimately, it is the players who were the main engineers of its success by popularizing it to a global audience and sharing valuable feedback to help shape its future. The amount of dedication I’ve personally witnessed over the years from the community is absolutely humbling and gives a lot of meaning to our work. A special shoutout to all the amazing artists who produced stunning fan art. It is always such a treat to see.[/p][p]
[/p]

[p]
[/p]
Jonathan Lien aka Babbletr0n (Former B&S Producer)
[p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Introduce yourself! Your name, role(s), and when you worked on Blade & Soul

My name is Jonathan Lien aka Babbletr0n and I was a Producer for Blade & Soul from 2015 to 2019.
[/p][p]
One Blade & Soul moment that still sticks with you

The launch of the game in North America and Europe, highlighted with the Launch Party at Esports Arena in Santa Ana. It was the culmination of much hard work and preparation by the teams at HQ in Korea as well as at NCWest. Hmm, yeah it was either that or eating spicy noodles on stream so that my face could become a meme.
[/p][p]
A favorite or memorable moment involving the players or community

It’s hard to pick one specific moment, but when I think back I really appreciate all the interactions I had with the community–whether it was telling people how *excited* I was via the livestreams, answering questions on Twitter, or meeting in person at conventions. I built relationships with people that still persist to this day, and I’ll still get recognized a couple times a year in public which always leads to a fun conversation.
[/p][p]
Why Blade & Soul mattered to you, or what made it special

Blade & Soul will always be a very special part of my career and life. I played the game on the Taiwan server before working on it and I loved it so much; I was thrilled when Nico (Senior Producer at the time) approached me with the opportunity to work on the game as a Producer. It was my first production role in the industry and also my first role where I had direct interaction with the community, so I feel I learned a ton both professionally and personally.
[/p][p]
Anything else you'd like to say to the community?

Overall, I just hope people enjoy Blade & Soul because I loved playing it and I wanted people in North America and Europe to have a great experience playing it as well. Your feedback was invaluable, whether it was support or criticism, and I can honestly say that both the teams in Korea and at NCWest took your feedback seriously and put a lot of effort into implementing what we could. Lastly, I hope everyone had a great holiday and a happy new year![/p][p][/p]

[p][/p][p]Check back soon for more letters from the staff and add your own in #player-letters on Discord ![/p]
