The Mountain And The Moron News

The Onkleville Times #1

Hello everyone, this is the first edition of the Onkleville times!

The Onkleville times is a (Hopefully) weekly until the game's release, then monthly update on MATM, here I will have updates on the games development, upcoming news, announcements, (if the community grows) community contributions (such as videos, fan art, and more), and some ending notes.
To start, let me talk about some updates I am working on!

I have added a new modifier, this modifier adds a bomb to the bottom left corner of the screen that explodes, destroying the entire mountain once its timer runs out. This is different from the "soft timer" that Rising Void adds. The idea behind adding an optional "hard timer" is it makes the player feel different about their use of time. Players often lose after they fall in Rising Void, but the "hard timer" gives you more grace when you fall, but still will punish you. I hope the 10 minuets the timer is set to is fair.
Additionally, I have locked Mount Dagobert behind 1 win, this should prevent people from going to Mount Dagobert as their first stage.
Otherwise, that is all for the gameplay changes.

Upcoming News/Announcements

I am still trying to release the game in late May/Early June, the only real thing I have left before the game is done is music. Desh is doing the music for this game, if he is not able to finish the tracks in time, I will use stock music for the time being. I will share samples if he has it done by the next entry of The Onkelville times.

Since the game is not out yet, the community hub is mostly silent...

Ending Notes
I hope this weekly (for now) news will help with transparency, and show ya'll what i'm working on! I will most likely post the patch notes for v0.9 soon, I have a few more plans for 0.9, so look forward to it!

The Mountain And The Moron's Steam page is live!

Hello y’all, I'm RasberryPi. I am a new game developer, and this is my first game published on Steam!

How did we get here?

I started work on MATM back in January of this year for a school project, and never expected to publish the game anywhere (yet alone Steam). As time went on, the game started to overshadow everybody else's game, and this led to multiple people saying “You should publish the game on steam”.

As time went on, I felt more and more confident about doing so, and also wanted to learn how. So I ponied up and paid the $100, and spent hours figuring out how to publish the game. And now we are here!

The game is not out yet, when will you release it?

My goal is late May, or early June. A few things such as the music are not done yet, and I still am using placeholder music , and I still want to add a few things (such as more achievements, and getting them working lol). I am working hard to get it ready by then !

What even is MATM?

The Mountain and the Moron is a rage platformer!

How did you get the idea behind this game?

It’s a weird story. Originally, Uncle was just a dancing pickup that spun around the map, and the main character was a gray cylinder (as most unity projects start).
One thing led to another and Uncle ended up as the main character because he was rigged properly, so I could use him. The mountain came from an idea of someone climbing a mountain while the news was recording him. Originally the camera came from news, but that system made the game nearly impossible. The game as of now is hard, but not super bad, which modifiers can change the game to make it easier/harder.

Will there be multiplayer? I really want multiplayer! MULTIPLAYER WHEN?

Yes, yes I know, multiplayer is fun.

But on the other hand

This game is not programmed for multiple players, synced across a server. I will explore options (Upgrading the game to Unity 6 may be helpful for this), but as of now, No. (it would be fun though)

Ending notes

I am super excited to release MATM for y'all to play. I will post frequent updates on the game’s development (these news articles take like 30 minutes to make, and give you guys a little window into my life). Yet again, I will try to release the game in early summer, so stay tuned!
