PATCH #2

Hi everyone! This is just a quick small patch to add DirectX 11 & 12 support for people that want to play it on PC with a controller and have issues with Vulkan. It might also help with a very small set of Steam Deck players that experience performance issues where the framerate is 20fps or lower. The game should normally target 60fps when no TDP limit, FPS limit is set or manual GPU clock is set. See FAQ for more information.

At startup you will get 3 different options. If you never had any issues best is to use the default one that uses Vulkan otherwise you could try one of the DirectX versions.

If you get an unsupported error about DirectX that means the game is not updated and you should force an update. Normally rebooting the Steam Deck is enough to force this.

Hope this little patch helps. Otherwise the search for a solution regarding the performance issues continues!

Found any other issues with the game? Make a thread in the discussions!

Thank you all for playing my little game!

It is Steam Spring Sale!

The first time Game With Balls is part of a Seasonal Sale on Steam! 20% off or get even more discount with the bundle that includes my other Steam Deck game: Better With A Friend. A collection of mini games to play together undocked.

For Game With Balls the first large update will come on the 2nd of April, together with the Switch release, with 20 new drawn levels based on historical mazes and labyrinths, because humans have been drawing them for thousands of years. Sometimes to tell stories and sometimes to be part of a ritual.

Thank you all for all the positive messages since release and hope you guys enjoy what will be added in 2026.

Cheers!

Geert

New level added to Mixed: Graffiti

I joined buddies (Rimboe & Cars) of mine before when they would go out to paint, but never picked up the cans myself. As Game With Balls is also a little experiment for myself to see what artforms I enjoy the most, I just had to do it for at least one level. That is why the mixed section exists! You can now play my first ever graffiti piece in the game. Thank you all for trying out Game With Balls and more updates (with a large one on the 2nd of April) are coming!

Game With Balls coming to the Switch!

[p]Hi everyone! Probably the question I got the most from friends is: When is Game With Balls coming to the Switch? As they don't own a Steam Deck...

Behind the scenes I have been working on a separate version that I can finally announce and will release on the 2nd of April 2026. Also on that date I will release the new theme for the Steam Deck: History. Mazes and labyrinths based on the past where people used the designs to meditate and tell stories. Including 7 new music tracks. [/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]

To celebrate the announcement of the Switch version I have painted a new level that you can now play in the Mixed section of the Steam Deck version!

As always. Thank you guys for the support for this little project![/p][p][/p][p]- Geert[/p]

Patch #1 - Save Game Rework

[p]Thank you for all the messages and everyone that played Game With Balls already! Obviously there are things that I didn't thought about when releasing the game and one of the things is how the game saves locally. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Patch Notes:[/p]
  • [p]Savegame is now tied to SteamID locally and in Steam Cloud. This makes it that it first looks who is logged into Steam and then loads the save associated with that account. [/p]
  • [p]The old savegame (if exists) will be copied to the new savegame. At the moment I am not removing the old save from the folder so it will copy to any account that opens the game. In a future patch I will make sure to also remove this file, but just don't want to risk peoples progress yet! [/p]
  • [p]Steam Cloud is now activated. New Steam Deck? Old save will be there![/p]
[p][/p][p][/p][p]Notes for existing users:[/p]
  • [p]Not using same devices for Family Sharing? Then everything should work as is. [/p]
  • [p]Using the same devices and never opened the game before this patch? Everything should work as intended.[/p]
  • [p]Using the same device for Family Sharing and played the game before? Open the game with the account that you want the old scores and progress to show first. Then go to the save folder on the Steam Deck:[/p][p][c]/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/3745250/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/BallGame/Saved/SaveGames/

[/c]Make sure that you see save.sav and a .sav file with a number in front of it (this is your SteamID). Then move or delete the save.sav file. If you now open the game it will use the new save file and if another account on the same device plays the game it will create a separate save for that account.

This method also works if you play on Windows, but then the save games are in [c]C:\\Users\\\[USERNAME]\\AppData\\Local\\BallGame\\Saved\\SaveGames

[/c]If you use multiple devices together with Game With Balls? Make sure to not have the save.sav synced in the Cloud after the new save game is created. When logged into Steam you can check HERE if the file is synced with Steam Cloud. [/p]
[p][/p][p]Again thank you all for playing the game and will roll out more updates and patches this whole year! If there are any issues because of this patch: please reach out on the discussions or shoot me a message on one of the platforms I am on. [/p][p][/p][p]- Geert[/p][p]
