Fallout 4 – Next Gen Update 2 Notes

Fallout 4 has received a new update that adds the ability to manage your control over the game’s graphic fidelity or performance. There have also been additional fixes and improvements to address some of the feedback you provided us with on the previous update.
Update Versions
• PC 1.10.984
Patch Highlights
Xbox Series S|X and PlayStation 5 Display Settings
Thanks to your feedback, we’ve been able to implement the ability to control your graphic fidelity and performance. We highly recommend you run with the default settings but now you can change your options to better fit your playstyle and display.

Frame Rate Target
Frame Rate Target allows you to choose between 30, 40, and 60 (default). It is important to note that to select 40, your display must be able to support 120hz.

Visual and Performance Prioritization
You can now choose between Visuals and Performance (default) while trying to maintain frame rate target. If you choose Frame Rate Target of 60, we recommend selecting Performance. Both modes may adjust internal resolution dynamically when scenes or action get heavier.

Please note both modes can only be changed from the main menu.

 • General stability improvements
 • Fixed visual issue with certain imagespaces
 • Auto HDR is re-enabled (Xbox Series S|X)
 • Fixed issue where reserved space was not displayed correctly in load order menu (Xbox Series S|X)
 • Fixed issue with character name field when in widescreen mode. (PC)
 • Fixed an issue that occasionally caused bundles to not fully download and could cause a crash
 • Fixed an issue with material swaps
 • Fixed an issue with load order that would break DLC until a restart after downloading mods (PlayStation 5)
 • Fixed an issue that would occasionally cause a crash if you returned to the Main Menu with queued mods still downloading (PlayStation 5)
 • Fixed an issue that could cause the Creation Club menu to not appear (Microsoft Store)
 • Fixed a crash that could occur when connecting to the network after a suspend/resume with the network disabled (Xbox One)

Fallout 4's next-gen update is broken, but don't worry, some fixes are coming next week

History repeated itself when Fallout 4's next-gen update arrived broken, but Bethesda has promised an update is coming next week.

It must be written in a contract somewhere that anything Bethesda does with Fallout 4, it has to be buggy as all hell, because that's the only reason I can imagine the game's next-gen update released in the state it did. Maybe it's just tradition too, but it is a bit of a pain nonetheless, so much so that some of Fallout 4's most popular mods recently were just ones that got rid of the update. Thankfully, though, it seems like Bethesda is working on some fixes for the update. As Bethesda shared in a post from its official Twitter account, "On Monday, May 13 we will be updating Fallout 4 on all platforms. This update will include new options for graphics and performance settings as well as further fixes and improvements. Thanks for your continued feedback and support!"

Whether that'll outright fix all of the update's problems, we'll obviously have to wait until the patch drops tomorrow to find out, but it's something at the very least. In the meantime, you're probably better off playing the game without the next-gen update, if only so that you can comfortably play the game with your favourite mods.

Underwhelming Fallout 4 next gen update finally getting fixed

The Fallout 4 next gen update was a disaster. We knew it was likely to break mods upon release, but a spate of other issues immediately cropped up on all platforms, not just PC. While Fallout 4 enjoyed its best player count in years thanks to the success of the show, we were all met with a mess of a patch that Bethesda has finally promised to fix, and we don't have to wait long.

After waiting years for its next-gen update, Fallout 4 is already getting another patch next week

What is it Wendy Cope wrote? “Bloody Fallout 4 patches are like bloody buses. You wait half a decade for one, and as soon as that one breaks everything, Bethesda releases another just days later.” Yeah, pretty sure that’s it. Anyway, Fallout 4 will get another patch for the near decade-old game next week, presumably to help fix a lot of the problems its long-awaited “next-gen update” introduced two weeks ago.

New Fallout 4 mod finally makes the Minutemen actually useful

While Fallout 4 may not be the best game in the series, the success of Amazon's Fallout TV show has renewed interest in the 2015 post-apocalyptic adventure. Its Minutemen faction is widely regarded as a nuisance, constantly cloying for your attention and begging you to defend settlements - the job that it's supposed to be doing. Finally, a mod has overhauled the faction and turned it into something worth rebuilding.
