Thanks to Fallout 4's disaster update, GOG's patch rollback feature makes it the best version of the game right now

Fallout 4's next-gen update has been an unmitigated disaster on PC: in exchange for practically no improvements, many non-Creation Club (read: paid) mods for the game have been rendered unusable until the community at large or individual mod authors come up with a fix. If you already have the game on GOG, though, you're in luck: rolling back to the last patch is a cinch...

Fallout 4 on Steam Deck completely devalues Valve's Verified rating

Fallout 4 on Steam Deck is now officially Verified after the new 'next-gen' update, but frustratingly performance on the Valve handheld is now decidedly worse, the graphical options are now inaccessible, and crashes are more frequent. This isn't the first example of a game getting worse on Steam Deck as its rating improves, but there are now some major questions that Valve needs to answer or risk its rating system falling entirely into chaos.

While the Steam Deck OLED is still our pick for the best handheld gaming PC, it's also the model of the Deck most impacted by this new Fallout 4 update. The most obvious 'improvement' is the removal of the Bethesda launcher, but this gave you the only way to adjust the graphical settings, meaning it's now impossible to make any changes at all.

Fallout 4 is still broken on Nvidia RTX GPUs because of one setting

The Fallout 4 next-gen update is now live but its arrival has been met with a decidedly mixed reception, particularly on PC. While the patch does bring in some notable improvements to the RPG, it has broken many mods and support for ultrawide displays is not to a high standard. A standout issue, though, is that Bethesda has left the game unplayable on Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics cards if a particular setting is enabled, despite knowing about the bug for years.

UPDATE: Fallout 4 next-gen update's free upgrade issue on PS5 is now "successfully resolved", Bethesda says

Well, Fallout 4's next-gen update arrived yesterday, as expected, though its deployment has been far from issue-free. The most noteworthy of these was a problem which has led to those who previously acquired the game via PlayStation Plus being unable to upgrade it to the PS5 version for free. Bethesda's said that it's working on rectifying this, with players being left to twiddle their thumbs in the interim.

If you're just catching up on things, Fallout 4's next-gen update brings the game to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, as well as including some graphical tweaks and bug fixes that vary from platform to platform. There's also a fair amount of free Creation Club content bundled in with it.

Sadly, when PlayStation players who'd previously acquired their PS4 version of the game via PlayStation Plus attempted to upgrade it to the new PS5 version for free - as they'd been told they'd be able to - they were instead only greeted with the option buy the PS5 version seperately. Naturally, this caused some backlash, especially given that the process seemed to be working as intended for those upgrading in similar fashion on Xbox.
