Developer Update | May 2024

As we roll into the 8.0.0 Update, we have made a series of changes since the Public Test Build (PTB).

[h2]The Lich[/h2]

[CHANGE] Reduced spell cooldown to 38 seconds (was 50 seconds).
[CHANGE] Decreased charge time for spells to 0.2 seconds (was 0.33 seconds).
[CHANGE] Increased movement speed when charging a spell to 4.0m/s (was 3.68m/s).
[CHANGE] Balance adjustments for an assortment of Add-Ons.
[CHANGE] Increased Bloodpoints for some score events.

Dev note: We have made some tweaks to improve the feel of using spells across the board, and fine-tuned various Add-Ons and score events.

[CHANGE] Increased duration of Fly spell to 4 seconds (was 3.5 seconds).
[CHANGE] Increased friction at the end of the Fly spell.
[NEW] The Killer can now collide with Survivors as the Fly spell ends.

Dev note: We have slightly increased the duration of the Fly spell to allow The Lich to cover more ground and increased his friction with the ground at the end of the spell to prevent sliding & improve feel.

[CHANGE] Reduced Flight of the Damned spawn time to 0.5 seconds (was 1 second).
[CHANGE] Increased Flight of the Damned projectile speed to 9m/s (was 8m/s).
[CHANGE] Increased Flight of the Damned recovery movement speed to 3.68m/s (was 2.3m/s).

Dev note: Flight of the Damned can be dodged by crouching, but its slow spawn speed & projectiles made it too easy to avoid. The Lich’s slow movement speed afterwards also made missing an attack a very costly mistake, so we have reduced the speed penalty after casting.

[CHANGE] Increased Dispelling Sphere duration to 25 seconds (was 20 seconds).
[CHANGE] Increased Dispelling Sphere movement speed to 5.5m/s (was 4.2m/s).
[CHANGE] Increased Dispelling Sphere recovery movement speed to 3.68m/s (was 2.3m/s).

Dev note: We have made adjustments to allow Dispelling Sphere to travel further (and faster) before it disappears. Likewise, we have also reduced the speed penalty after casting to improve the feel.

[CHANGE] Decreased Mage Hand’s time to lift a pallet to 0.35 seconds (was 0.5 seconds).
[CHANGE] Increased Mage Hand recovery movement speed to 3.68m/s (was 2.3m/s).

Dev note: The high movement speed penalty made it difficult to follow up and get a hit. We have made this a little more forgiving.

[NEW] Activating the effects of a Vecna Item inflicts Broken for 30 seconds.
[CHANGE] Decreased aura reveal by Magic Items to 1.5 seconds (was 3 seconds).

Dev note: We have reduced the time the Killer’s aura is revealed by Magic Items so they act more as a warning than a mind-game prevention.

[h2]The Blight[/h2]

[CHANGE] Compound Thirty-Three: Now limits Rush tokens to 5 (was 3).

Dev note: With the other effects of this Add-On toned down, we have increased the token limit to 5.

[h2]Bardic inspiration
[/h2]
[CHANGE] Increased duration & cooldown to 90 seconds (was 60 seconds).

Dev note: We have extended Bardic Inspiration’s duration to give the opportunity to gain more value from the Perk before it expires.

[h2]Still Sight
[/h2]
[CHANGE] Increased aura reading range to 24m (was 18m).

Dev note: Still Sight’s range was a little low, so we’ve extended it to 24m. This can be further increased with the Perk Open-Handed if you choose!

[h2]Weave Attunement [/h2]

[CHANGE] Increased aura reading range to 12m (was 8m).

Dev note: We have increased the range of the aura reveal to increase the coverage from dropped Items.

[h2]Dark Arrogance [/h2]

[CHANGE] Increased vault speed bonus to 25% (was 20%).

Dev note: We have further increased the vault speed bonus to make Dark Arrogance a more compelling choice compared to other vault Perks.

Until next time…

New Dead by Daylight mode has proved so popular it just got extended

There's been a recent experimental slant to Dead by Daylight. Developer Behaviour Interactive has been trying new things, with the game changing in new, surprising ways. We've seen new mechanics, killers and survivors that don't work like anyone else, and even some modifiers that change up how the game's played. The most recent of these, Chaos Shuffle, was meant to end today, but that's all just changed.

One of the most surprising things about the recent Dungeons and Dragons announcement for Dead by Daylight is how much the game embraces the tabletop RPG. Vecna's upcoming chapter isn't just a new map, survivor, killer, and a bag of perks. Rolling d20s, equipping loot, and a ton of easter eggs are all coming to the game, making it almost feel like a dark twist on a DnD campaign.

Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Alien, Bubba, Chucky, Sadako, Nemesis, Wesker, Pyramid Head, Pinhead, Ghost Face, Demogorgon, Pig, and now Vecna. Dead by Daylight has been racking up the licensed killers over the years but there's always been one notable absence. Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th has never stepped into the fog with everyone else, leaving a mask-shaped hole in the center of the game.

Dead by Daylight 2024 Anniversary Recap: Everything Announced

Our 8th Anniversary broadcast was packed with surprising new Chapter reveals, major gameplay updates, exciting news on the expansion of DbD, and so much more.

If you missed the livestream, or want to rewatch your favorite moments, we’ve got you covered with a recap.

[h3]What the Fog [/h3]

We kicked things off with the surprise announcement—and release—of What the Fog, a brand-new 2 player co-op roguelite from the world of Dead by Daylight.

As if their luck couldn't get any worse, Dwight, Claudette, and Feng Min have been sucked into a cursed boardgame. Don't you hate it when that happens? Now, you and a friend will need to use the power of teamwork if you want to survive and get the fog out of there. Learn to use your newfound abilities as you run, jump, and shoot your way through swarms of enemies in this chaotic game where the action never ends—even after you die.

What the Fog is OUT NOW, and you can get it for FREE by signing into or creating a Behaviour Account right here and following the steps. There’s a limited number of free keys available, and conditions apply, so grab one today and invite a friend while you’re at it! What the Fog can also be purchased on Steam for $4.99 USD.

[h3]Year 9 Roadmap[/h3]

In the following segment, Head of Production Stefan Beauchamp gave a brief overview of what players can expect from the next year—including 6 new Chapters, 4 Tomes, exciting events, and of course, space for a few surprises along the way.

[h3]2v8 Game Mode[/h3]

Sparing no time for the first of these surprises, the highly requested 2v8 Game Mode was announced, and early details were shared. In this mode, 2 Killers will square off against 8 Survivors on a larger Map for a completely new Dead by Daylight experience. Several changes are being made to both Killer and Survivor mechanics that will make this mode feel fresh and encourage brand-new strategies and gameplay styles.

For starters, we’re doing away with Perks for what amount to a Class system. Each of the included Killers and Survivors will have their own playstyle, so you’ll need to choose the right one for each Trial. To ramp up the action, we've also removed Hooks. When a Killer Downs a Survivor, rather than bringing them to a Hook, they’ll be able to send them right to a Cage. Getting sent to a Cage still counts as a Hook State, meaning 3 Cages and you’re out of the game.

More info on the 2v8 Game Mode will be shared in a future livestream in July.

[h3]Gameplay Improvements [/h3]

If the 2v8 Game Mode wasn’t enough, Senior Product Manager Derrick shared some exciting live balance updates and features that are coming soon.

  • Cross Progression was announced and is slated for release later this summer. Players will soon be able to carry over their progress, unlocks, and more across platforms. More details on this feature can be found in our FAQ here.

  • A new Challenge System was also revealed, which will give players new ways to earn rewards outside of Tomes and Archives.

  • To help stay on top of everything happening in The Fog, we’ll also be making some improvements to our Messaging system, which will help inform players on the latest news, patch notes and rewards, with less intrusive pop-ups.

  • What better way to end things off than with a Finisher Mori. We know that players loved these stylish executions, and now they're going to be a baseline feature for every Killer!

[h3]Dead by Daylight: Dungeons & Dragons [/h3]

Get your d20 ready and prepare for a new adventure. The iconic Dungeons & Dragons franchise was revealed as Dead by Daylight’s next Chapter. During the presentation, Behaviour Interactive’s Head of Partnerships Mathieu Coté and Wizards of the Coast Producer Shaun Roe introduced the new Chapter and shared key insights on how this unexpected collaboration came to be.

For fans eager to see how the new Chapter will play, Creative Director Dave Richard and Principal Game Designer Janick Neveu took us through some of Vecna’s abilities and the new D&D-inspired mechanics coming to the game.

Another Anniversary, a new Twisted Masquerade!

One of our biggest events of the year is back and it's packed with new unlockable Cosmetics, event-themed gameplay, decor, and much more.

This time around, the Masquerade’s mischievous host, Tryks, emerges from the shadows. As the mastermind pulling the strings, Tryks’s presence and voice can be felt all throughout the event—from loadings screens, to the Survivor lobby, and even during Trials.

Her big bash, however, takes place in the separate Trial Event Queue, where she’s got some interesting gameplay changes in store for those brave enough to accept her invitation.

The Twisted Masquerade Event kicks off on June 13th, but we’ve got plenty of surprises to tide you over in the meantime with Before the Masquerade.

From now until June 13th, we're showing our appreciation to players with login rewards, boosted Maps, mini-events, and sales inspired by Dead by Daylight’s history—including free Outfits for Meg Thomas and The Huntress. More info on Before the Masquerade is available in our blogpost right here.
