Warhammer: Vermintide 2 dev says Steam Deck Easy Anti-Cheat support ain't easy

When Epic Games announced its Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) service would be officially supported on the Steam Deck, the company said it was possible to "activate anti-cheat support for Linux via Wine or Proton with just a few clicks". Unfortunately, according to a developer of Warhammer: Vermintide 2, this seemingly isn't the case.

In a Steam discussion thread (via GamingOnLinux), Fatshark staff member Hedge revealed that there are in fact two versions of EAC: EOS (Epic Online Services) and non-EOS. Hedge says this presents a problem for some developers who want their games to run on the Steam Deck, because "most games historically use Non-EOS EAC. It's the one Vermintide 2 uses as well. Epic only added Proton support for the EOS version of EAC. Therefore, in order to implement Proton support for Vermintide 2, a huge amount of reworking of the EAC implementation would be required".

Dead by Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive previously alluded to this issue back in October, leading to concerns that it and other popular Steam games may not work on the Steam Deck at launch (if at all). Worse still, BattlEye, another popular third-party anti-cheat service, is also creating issues for games like DayZ, which may not work on the Steam Deck.

Maybe you need to be playing a better Dead by Daylight killer? It can be easy as a survivor to see an advancing murdering and think everyone is equally hazardous to your health, but not every killer was created equal and some of them... well they kind of suck at the whole murdering thing. So, here's our breakdown as to the best and worst killers in Dead By Daylights alt-universe slash-'em-up.

We rate killers based on their kits, rating how it feels to hit someone with their weapons, their unique power and the perks that come with them. Perks can obviously be fooled around with, so we've given the most weighting to weapon and talent, as these are unique from killer to killer. Dead by Daylight players are arguing about the Lightborn perk

Like all live service games with a passionate online community, Dead by Daylight is liable to the occasional silly drama and debates surrounding gameplay intricacies every now and again. Lo and behold, the current discussion surrounding the Lightborn perk, and the topic of survivor vs killer enjoyment it seems to have uncovered.

First, a bit of background. Dead by daylight is an online multiplayer survival game where a group of survivors must survive an encounter with a player-controller killer. Both the killer and survivors are given tools to help them, including perks that provide certain traits.

One such perk is called Lightborn, which allows for killers to gain a certain resistance to flashlights - a tool survivors use to blind killers while they make their escape or achieve certain objectives. As you can imagine, this makes Lightborn a situational but somewhat useful perk for those frustrated with being blinded all the time, especially since a survivor strategy exists where players all take flashlights and continuously blind the killer.
