The new Survivor is Mikaela Reid.

Haunted by the passing of her father, new Survivor Mikaela Reid found comfort in the unlikeliest of sources: horror stories. The more she read, the more she also wrote, sharpening her own tales of horror while developing a keen interest in witchcraft. After receiving an invitation to read her work at the renown Endless Halloween Festival, Mikaela found herself plagued by a series of disturbing events. Recurring nightmares. Strange visions. The disappearance of a friend. When she finally took to the stage on All Hallow’s Eve to tell her tale a thick black Fog engulfed her, to the audience’s amazement. Mikaela Reid was never seen again.

The Hour of the Witch Chapter includes:
  • A new Survivor: Mikaela Reid
  • An exclusive item for Mikaela: Crescent Camisole

Not all witches are wicked. Never-before-seen powers have arrived in the Fog.

See you in the Fog,

The Dead by Daylight team.

Dead by Daylight models are being sold as NFTs, no one is pleased

Non-fungible tokens are basically digital items that use blockchain technology to grant "ownership" to those who pay for them. Ownership is in scare quotes, because you really only own a sort of receipt that says a non-unique digital file is yours. It's an extremely divisive phenomenon, partly because creating NFTs requires environmentally damaging, energy-intensive blockchain mining, and partly because the scene is rife with scams. That hasn't stopped their proliferation, and it hasn't stopped Dead By Daylight studio Behaviour from licensing its in-game models for NFTs. Specifically: You can now buy a Pinhead NFT...

Dead By Daylight devs "can't promise" that it'll work on Steam Deck at launch

Valve's Steam Deck handheld PC is out this December, if all goes well, although the developers of Dead By Daylight "can't promise" the horror game will work on the system at launch - due to issues with the Easy Anti-Cheat system, apparently.

With the Steam Deck due out in just a couple of months to the pre-orderers who managed to snag a system, Valve is doing its best to assure users that most of Steam's library - and indeed, the PC library in general - will be playable at launch.

However, there have been issues with some games and the anti-cheat software available. Fortnite's BattlEye will support the system, as will Easy Anti-Cheat, but it's up to developers whether or not they implement the changes and updates necessary to get this software working - along with the games that rely on them. Dead By Daylight developer Behavior Interactive has previously confirmed support for Steam Deck, but now it's saying this issue might prevent the game from being playable at launch.

PSA: For players unable to find a match

For a brief window, a version of Steam which was incompatible with our anti-cheat, Easy Anti-Cheat, was live. This update has since been rolled back.

However, starting at approximately 3:20 p.m. EDT, Steam players who launched the game with this version of Steam installed may be unable to find a match. If you find yourself in this situation, don’t worry! Just follow these quick steps and you’ll be able to find matches again:
  • Close the game
  • In the top left corner of Steam, click “Steam” followed by “Check for Steam Client Updates…”
  • When asked, choose to update

That’s it! You should now be able to launch the game and find matches as expected.
