Devlog #1 - What 35,000 filled surveys told us? & 200,000 Wishlists!

Today marks the 1-month anniversary of the ReStory announcement, and yesterday we woke up, opened our shop, and launched Gozilla Fairfox to discover that you have added the game to your wishlists 200,000 times! This is an excellent start to our journey with ReStory, and we’re filled with ✨determination✨ to create a fantastic game for you all.

In total, around 140,000 of you have tried out the playtest version! And very special thanks to those fantastic 35,000 of you who took the time to fill out our feedback survey. To celebrate a one-month anniversary and the massive wishlist milestone, we want to lift the curtain and share some data that we got from the survey so far.
How many reached the end and went beyond?
So, most players who filled the survey have played until the very end, which is exceptional (the 2-hour average playtime is also crazy)

And almost half of those who reached the end kept playing afterward!

Which is really impressive, because one of our biggest challenges was to make ReStory both story-driven, but at the same time feel like a fun systems-driven game you can play for many hours. In the full version, we would double down on that, introducing more fun late-game content and long-term goals, aiming for tens or even hundreds of hours of playtime.
What were the highest and lowest rated?
We asked players to rate specific aspects of the game, and most of the aspects received really good scores, but the strongest highlights seem to be the setting, atmosphere, visuals, music, and gameplay.

Two things that were commonly flagged for improvement are performance (which we already greatly improved upon with a patch, but there’s still a lot of work to do) and lack of gadget variety (which is, luckily, our main focus right now – we’re working to impress you with the available arsenal of devices to repair once the full game releases).

Who are your favorite characters and gadgets?
Baketsu (Bucket) ended up as the favorite character from the playtest (almost half of all votes). As for your favorite gadget, Nony PNP takes a decisive victory with 37.5%, with Eggotchi and Autorola taking silver and bronze with 15.6% and 12%.

As for the most wanted gadget, the second most commonly requested type of devices are a variety of retro PCs and laptops, and we’ll add those!

An iconic Atari 800 from 1979 will make its appearance among others

What is the most requested nostalgic device, though?
We really wanted to share, but, unfortunately, our publisher’s lawyers broke into my room, grabbed my keyboard and said never in a thousand years we are allowed to say out loud either the name of that iconic gaming handheld, or the name of the company that makes it, out loud, or otherwise we are all doomed and will get cease & desist letters (even our grandparents). So, guess we won’t say it, but let’s just say we may be working on something similar. Oh, and in case you haven’t seen it, here’s our game’s key art, totally out of context!

And to conclude, the score “How likely you are recommending to a friend” is almost 9/10, and that is pretty good, don’t you think?

That is all for today, hope you enjoyed that. Does your opinion match the majority’s, or do you disagree with something? Let us know in the comments. Over the next few months, we’ll keep sharing various news about the development, so follow our page/socials if that sounds interesting

Psssst! By the way, our previous game, I Am Future, has just released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series, and it is also on sale with a 50% discount on Steam.

It is a chill survival game where you build and expand a camp on the rooftop of a skyscraper in a flooded post-apocalyptic world. One of the mini-games is disassembling old kitchen appliances, which ended up inspiring ReStory!

Check it out if relaxing survival and exploration sound like your cup of tea.
