Amazon's Fallout TV show is about "what happens when you outsource the survival of the human race"

The Fallout TV series that’s set to drop on Amazon Prime Video in April this year is about “what happens when you outsource the survival of the human race”, according to director and executive producer Jonathan Nolan.

This is just the latest little teaser Fallout fans have gotten regarding what they’re in for when the show arrives in a few months’ time, and it’s an interesting one given that plenty of the sneak peeks we’ve had so far have focused on what it’ll involve story and costume wise. For those more interested in how the show will aim for atmospherically in terms of its portrayal of the Fallout universe, it seems like you’ll need to prepare for plenty of satire based around our own reality.

Speaking to Empire, Nolan, who’s developed the show alongside fellow Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy - as well as showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner - has revealed that it’s about: “what happens when you outsource the survival of the human race.” What does that mean? Well, plenty of commentary on how soul-destroying living in the real world is nowadays.

The Outer Worlds 2 is getting some dev help from one of Fallout’s co-creators

We might not know much about The Outer Worlds 2 yet, but one little nugget that’s just emerged is that its devs are getting some helpful guidance from Fallout co-creator Tim Cain.

If Starfield didn’t quite live up to your expectations, odds are you’re looking forward to playing Obsidian’s next interstellar RPG, which was announced back in 2021, whenever it arrives. While that point might still be a while off, here’s a little bit of insight into how its development is going.

Speaking to Rock Paper Shotgun, Cain, who served as a director for The Outer Worlds revealed that despite being now semi-retired, he’s currently consulting on its sequel, providing some feedback on the likes of level design and lore. “There’s stuff they’re trying to do in the sequel, that of course I can’t talk about, that I get pulled in on because it’s similar to stuff I’ve done in the past,” Cain said.

Amazon's Fallout TV show now has a concrete release date, so get your Geiger counter ready

Dust off your hazmat suit and gulp down some Rad-X, because it’s now been revealed that Amazon Prime’s Fallout TV show will arrive in April next year.

The announcement came via a teaser posted to Twitter by the series’ official account and seemingly confirms April 12, 2024 as the date when the series, or at least its first episode, will debut. Veteran wastelanders will recognise the clip as using a shot of a Pip-Boy’s boot-up sequence to convey this message.

Tucked away within the lines of green text that scroll across the device’s screen before it reaches its main menu and shows off the release date are a couple of extra little details, including a stylised mention of the word Kilter, likely an allusion to Kilter Films, the series’ production company.
