FFXIV Endwalker review - end times in Eorzea

Ten years. Ten years have passed since the Warriors of Light began their journey in Final Fantasy XIV Online. That journey got off to a rotten start, but after a soft reboot in 2013, this beloved MMO just keeps getting better. Eight years, 25 million registered players, and now four expansions later, the story arc that began with A Realm Reborn finally comes to an end, and somehow, somehow, Square Enix has done it justice.

A new threat, the prophesied Final Days, is at the heart of Endwalker's narrative. Once believed to be deities, it's now known that Hydaelyn and Zodiark are merely enemy forces in a deeper struggle that's also ensnared your character, the villainous Zenos Yae Galvus, and your companions the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. A cosmic apocalypse might cause one's perspective to drift, but this expansion is full of intimate, human stories that keep you rooted, and really make you feel just how high the stakes are.

Because while the Final Days are coming, there's a more immediate conflict raging through Eorzea: a Garlean civil war is leaving a trail of death and devastation across a nation that was once the most powerful enemy of the free people. Those days are long gone, as years of conflict have reduced the Garlean Empire to ashes.

Final Fantasy 14's Starlight Celebration kicks off this week - here's when and where

Final Fantasy XIV's next seasonal event is upon us. The winter holidays are fast approaching and, right on time, developer Square Enix has announced details for this year's Starlight Celebration in-game event, which kicks off later this week.

The Final Fantasy XIV Starlight Celebration festival is due to go live on December 16 at 12am PT / 3am ET / 8am GMT for its 2021 edition, and will run until December 31 at 6:59 am PT / 9:59 am ET / 2:59 pm GMT. Popping up at this time of year annually since the MMO's launch back in 2010, the festival is all about yeti this year, it seems, kicking off with a mission called 'A very yeti starlight' that's found by speaking to Amh Garanjy in Old Gridania (coordinates are X:10.2, Y:9.4 in case they're handy).

Details are light on what this will involve in Square Enix's announcement, and you'll need to be at least level 15 to find out. The description merely teases that "Amh Garanjy is busy readying for the festivities in Mih Khetto's Amphitheatre and may just have a special task for you". We do, however, have a lovely image of the suitably seasonal festivities headed our way when it arrives.

The Endwalker expansion wraps up FFXIV's epic story, as the Warrior of Light stands against the threat of a looming catastrophe called the 'Final Days'. As they battle to stave off this threat, players go toe-to-toe with several key figures from the game's legendary saga - so if you're still making your way through the expansion, beware of spoilers for the main story below. FFXIV Endwalker Aether Currents locations

Final Fantasy XIV Aether Currents allow you to soar through the skies with a flying mount of your choice to let you lord it over your puny land-based compatriots. There really is no finer way to drink in the stupendous vistas of one of the best MMOs on PC than amid its beautifully fluffy clouds.

In Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker, to fly in each region players must find ten Aether Currents, and obtain five of them through quests. We've provided the coordinates of all ten Aether Current locations, as well as which quests provide the extra five Aether Currents.
