Final Fantasy XIV is getting more housing by patch 5.4

Housing in Final Fantasy XIV is extremely limited, especially with a now massively-expanded free trial and a big influx of new players. The devs plan to start addressing the housing shortage soon by opening up additional housing plots across data centers heading into patch 5.4.

In short, to get more housing plots into FFXIV, the devs need to expand their data servers, but the process to get more servers installed is going to be slow as a result of COVID-19. "In light of difficulties in improving the data centers," director Naoki Yoshida says in the announcement, "the development team is doing what it can to further optimize the servers to allow for the addition of as many housing plots as we can by the release of Patch 5.4. We will make a follow-up announcement when we've finalized the time table for these additions, and have determined how many can be added."

FFXIV's housing shortage has been exacerbated by the ongoing suspension of housing demolition. Players typically have to log into their homes every 30 days, or that house will be automatically destroyed. But since players might not be able to keep up their subscriptions with the economic impacts of COVID, the devs suspended that system earlier this year, and now homeowners are stacking up.

The initial FF14 A Realm Reborn revamp proposal was "reduce the number of quests"

The long-awaited Final Fantasy 14 patch 5.3 release time has landed. The MMORPG's latest update, Reflections in Crystal, is live in-game, which means a hearty new batch of content to feast upon, as well as a revamp for A Realm Reborn's main story, to help newcomers get through it and catch up more easily. Deciding what had to go and be cut out was a tricky process, however, as the game's director tells us - and it seems an initial idea was to get rid of some quests altogether.

In an interview with FFXIV director Naoki Yoshida, we asked how the developer decided what to cut and what to truncate, and if there were any painful decisions to make along the way. "The first proposal was to 'reduce the number of quests'", Yoshida tells us.

"This is because it would make it easier. However this had major drawbacks, such as players losing the opportunity to meet NPCs and find out about the lore if the quests were removed completely," the dev says.

Final Fantasy XIV patch 5.3 notes reveal all the job changes

August 10, 2020 The final patch notes for Final Fantasy XIV update 5.3 are here.

The Final Fantasy XIV patch 5.3 notes are here - now in full. With the countdown to the Final Fantasy XIV patch 5.3 release time fully underway, the devs have finalised all the job changes coming in this update, including notable buffs to Astrologians, Bards, and Monks, which you can see in full below. Besides the big new content for Reflections in Crystal - the new main story quests, the next Nier alliance raid, and the new Heroes' Gauntlet dungeon - the notes also reveal several notable quality-of-life improvements.

You'll now see a 'Transcendent' buff on your character when you get revived, indicating exactly how long your post-res invulnerability will last - a long-requested change. The status effects you've applied to enemies will now appear first in the target bar, so you can more easily keep track of your debuffs. And you can now start or abandon leve quests while riding a mount.

Whenever you complete a dungeon for the first time, you'll get an experience point bonus. The Coincounter boss in the Aurum Vale dungeon will now telegraph its attacks with AOE indicators, which should make the encounter a bit less confusing for new players.
