Final Fantasy XIV patch 5.3 release time - here's when maintenance ends in your time zone

The long-awaited Final Fantasy XIV patch 5.3 is nearly here - but first, you've got to endure the usual lengthy maintenance period before you can log in. So while you once again peruse the Final Fantasy XIV patch 5.3 notes, here's exactly when you can expect the servers to come back up for you to get into all the new content.

Maintenance for FFXIV began early this morning, and will continue until the morning of Tuesday, August 11 at 3:00 PDT / 6:00 EDT / 10:00 GMT / 11:00 BST. Until that time, you'll be unable to log into FFXIV or most of its associated services, including the Lodestone, the Mog Station, the companion app, and the online store.

The new patch will introduce the next chapter of the main story, a new dungeon, and the next Nier-themed raid. It's also a big one for new players, since it'll vastly streamline the first 50 levels worth of story quests, and will let you play for free all the way up to level 60. The changes also include an array of quality-of-life fixes and job changes too numerous to list out here.

Here are the Final Fantasy XIV quests you need to complete before patch 5.3

Final Fantasy XIV patch 5.3 is finally coming soon, and with it, a big revamp for A Realm Reborn's main story. The devs announced ages ago that patch 5.3 would make the Crystal Tower raids a requirement for completing the main story quests, and now we've got a bit more detail on how the requirement will be put into place.

Access to the new main story quests introduced in patch 5.3 will be blocked until you complete the Crystal Tower quest series. If you haven't embarked on those quests yet, you'll start with Legacy of Allag in Mor Dhona, which is unlocked late in the ARR main story. From there, just follow the quest chain and complete the raids - the duty finder should make that pretty simple. Once you've turned in The Light of Hope, you'll be able to jump into the new content.

Since Shadowbringers, the content of the Crystal Tower series has been getting increasingly serious callbacks in new main story content. It seems we're finally at a point where the devs have decided those references are too specific for players to be out of the loop on.

Final Fantasy XIV's Moonfire Faire returns to the MMORPG next month

There's a "Summer Shark Blowout!" on the way to Final Fantasy XIV in just a couple of weeks. That's right, the MMORPG game's summer festival - the Moonfire Faire - returns this year, with goodies aplenty to scoop up and tasks to complete.

Final Fantasy XIV's 2020 iteration of the annual summer festival has been announced for August 12 on The Lodestone. While details of the event aren't exactly laid out in detail, it looks like we can expect to see the quest giver from last year's event make an appearance again this year. Introducing a quest titled 'A Fish Too Far', publisher Square Enix says, "Mayaru Moyaru is grinning from ear to ear, and yet something in his eyes suggests this year's celebration is not all smiles and sunshine. Whatever dangers lurk beneath the surface of this year's faire, event chaperones are not like to turn away a helping hand."

To start the quest you can find Mayaru Moyaru at Limsa Lominsa's Upper Decks (X:11.5, Y:13.8), but note - you'll need to be at level 30 to get stuck in.
