FFXIV is getting a round of fixes for Endwalker login errors this week

Final Fantasy XIV's Endwalker expansion is here, though oodles of players haven't been able to try it. Since early access launched last week, the MMORPG has seen record levels of players trying to squeeze in so they can tootle off to the moon. While some people have logged some decent playtime, others have been error coded to the back of the queue before getting onto their server.

Coinciding with the full release of Endwalker, producer and director Naoki Yoshida has delivered an update on where the team is at with identifying and fixing various errors that are stopping people from logging in.

Yoshida shares that FFXIV is getting lobby server maintenance "at the earliest timing possible", though it'll only last 30 minutes and won't affect people who are signed in. The MMO is also getting some world maintenance tomorrow (December 8) that'll last for four hours, which will require all the servers to go offline. So, essentially, you're going to be taking a break. "We deeply apologise for this but ask for your cooperation as we address these server errors," Yoshida says. "The exact maintenance times will be shared in an upcoming announcement."

FFXIV Error 2002 - what it is, and how to fix it

Final Fantasy XIV's Endwalker expansion has now fully launched, and if early access is anything to go by, things are going to get suitably busy for Square Enix's servers. That's nothing too surprising, though, as the team has explained this was likely to happen in a blog post discussing server congestion. The devs have shared some nifty explainers on how busy servers affect login wait times, character creation, and instances for new areas. They've also detailed what FFXIV's Error 2002 is, though you can skip ahead in this article to get the full breakdown. Basically, things are busy.

Producer Naoki Yoshida previously told us in an interview that the team was doing everything it could to ensure a smooth launch, even though it was "just inevitable" that you would face a wait to jump in. "There are different elements that we can look at when we're trying to address congestion - there are things we can improve using technology, there are places where we can find people and resources to address that, and there are also places where we can invest money. We are currently putting all of our energy into all three of these points," he said at the time.

Yoshida also explained that fundamentally fixing the issue would involve increasing the number of servers "significantly so that players would be able to log in without any waiting times", though that isn't currently possible due to the effects of COVID-19 on development. "It's unfortunately the reality that there are not enough semiconductors on the market," he said. "So even though we would like to invest the money into this field, we're not able to at the moment - this is the most critical issue that we're facing right now."

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker is out now, adding bunnyboys (and other stuff)

After a pre-order early access period so popular it overwhelmed servers and left players in long queues, Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker has now officially launched. The fourth expansion pack for Square Enix's fantasy MMORPG continues the story with new quests, adds two new player classes, takes us to new areas to fight new enemies, and, most importantly, opens a male option for the Viera race so you can play as a bunnyboy in a maid costume. Yeah, thirst for those bunnyboys will only make the queues longer.

If you're a fan of both Final Fantasy XIV and food, Square Enix has got a deal for you - and by 'deal', I mean another promotional tie-in with a third-party company offering a special bonus in FFXIV. A Grubhub x Final Fantasy XIV promotion is giving players a free emote that'll let your Warrior of Light enjoy a well-earned slice of pizza in the MMORPG.

From Thursday, December 9 at 4:30pm PST / 7:30pm EST to Wednesday, December 15 at 8:59pm PST / 11:59pm EST, any Grubhub order of $15 USD or more (before tax and tip) will get you the Eat Pizza emote in FFXIV. You just have to use the promo code 'Endwalker'. You can get the full details at the official site. (The promo also includes free deliveries during The Game Awards.)

The promo has already caused some consternation among FFXIV fans, as Grubhub is only available in North America, and even then, app-based delivery services aren't always feasible to use in the more rural stretches of the region.
