FFXIV Reaper class - everything you need to know about the next job

The second job coming to the FFXIV Endwalker expansion has been confirmed as the Reaper class. This sinister, scythe wielding character can summon a demon avatar from the Void to aid in battle and arrives this November alongside the FFXIV Sage job.

As well as these two jobs, the FFXIV Endwalker release date adds a bunch of new features to the game including raids, gear, systems, and new dungeons - as well as a male Viera as a new playable race, and a new tribe called Loporrits. There's also new areas to explore, a lunar landscape, Mare Lamentorum, and a new training ground for the Warriors of Light called Labyrinthos.

If you're keen to know more about the Reaper, though, expect a job that's a lot darker than the Sage class and unlike current FFXIV classes. The recent FFXIV Fan Fest gave us a first look at the Reaper in action, so let's take a look at their abilities, what the Reaper can do with the avatar, and how to get the most out of this new class.

FFXIV Sage class - the next job coming to FFXIV Endwalker

Want to find out more about the upcoming Sage class in Final Fantasy 14? The FFXIV Endwalker expansion is out later this year, adding new dungeons, raids, gear, and systems. Alongside the many new features, we're getting a new class - the Sage job. First introduced in Final Fantasy III and seen again in Final Fantasy Tactics, players have been long anticipating the arrival of the Sage class.

The Sage job in FFXIV is a vastly different take on the job we've seen in previous games; instead of using powerful white and black magic or inflicting status hindering attacks, the Sage is a barrier healer, similar to the Scholar. This is the fourth healer to be added to Final Fantasy 14, to sit alongside the White Mage, Scholar, and Astrologian.

While there isn't much out there about the Sage class, we do know it's one of two new jobs arriving when the Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker release date rolls around, alongside the newly announced Reaper class. So, let's take a look at what we currently know about the Sage, the prerequisites to unlock the class, and how the Sage performs in combat.

FFXIV patch 5.55 bringing Nier: Automata crossover epilogue, Endwalker prelude

The next update for Final Fantasy XIV, patch 5.55, launches in a little over a week, and Square Enix has revealed some of what's coming. On top of main scenario quests, the Nier: Automata crossover is getting an epilogue, and Save the Queen is being updated.

Keeping with its title, patch 5.55 is bringing part two of Death Unto Dawn, the lead-in to Endwalker, the next proper expansion of the MMORPG game. Details are still hush-hush, but expect some context on what's going on with the moon, and probably some Final Fantasy IV-related hints and references. YoRha: Dark Apocalypse, then, has some "epilogue quests" on the way, for anyone who was left wanting more, or who played the Nier Replicant remaster, and would like to spend a little more time in the vicinity of that universe.

Save the Queen, the questline involving Final Fantasy Tactics writer Yasumi Matsuno, is getting "new skirmishes, critical engagements, duels, and more". These missions were introduced in 2020 as an engine for obtaining, and testing, new weapons, and it sounds like there'll be more to test your mettle with here. Finally, if you collect all the cards for Triple Triad - yes, all - you'll get a special reward. Maybe it's more cards?

Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker release date: new jobs, races, and raids

FFXIV Endwalker releases November

Square Enix has just hosted this year's Final Fantasy 14 FanFest, and with it came a full trailer for Endwalker, the MMORPG game's next expansion. Alongside ominously teasing some of the new features, we now know exactly when FF14 is taking us to the moon.

The six minutes of footage has a number of characters ominously chatting about things are "as we feared", asking if "our hero will deign to play their part", and so on. Among the locations visited is Old Sharlayan, the next city, where it's said that "the stars still have secrets to tell". Subtlety isn't one of Square Enix's strong suits.

We already knew Endwalker has a strong lunar angle, keeping with Final Fantasy tradition, and the trailer starts and finishes there. One of the moon-based locales you'll be able to visit, Mare Lamentorum, was given a standalone tour, its caves and structures surrounded by ominous cosmos. In the video itself, it says we can expect Endwalker in the fall, but director Naoki Yoshida confirmed on stream that November 23 will be when you can buy a ticket for Final Fantasy 14's tour of the moon.
