Dev Diary #1 Meet the Water Mokitons: Clamper & Crustide

[p]Hey, welcome to Path To Tamer Town Dev Diary![/p][p]We want to share what we’ve been working on and take you along our journey toward release![/p][p]If you have any questions about development, or just want to hang out with the devs, join us on our Discord, Reddit (/r/Tamertown), or the Steam Forum.[/p][p] [/p]

Creatures of the Water
[p][/p][p][/p][p]Today’s devlog focuses on one of the first Mokiton lines you'll meet in Path to Tamer Town, a pair of water-type creatures that evolve from a small, bashful crab into a surprisingly imposing crustacean titan.[/p][p]Their names are:[/p]
 • [p]Clamper - base evolution stage[/p]
 • [p]Crustide - higher evolution stage[/p]
[p]Both belong to the Water type, and both specialize in the Energy Producer role.[/p]

The first evolution of Clamper!
[p][/p][p][/p][p]Clamper is a compact water-dwelling Mokiton with a permanently unimpressed expression and a pair of bright, oversized claws. Despite his tiny body and almost cartoonishly stubborn stare, he’s one of the most durable companions you can recruit early in the game. Clamper’s design reflects his personality perfectly: quiet, tough, a bit grumpy-looking, but absolutely reliable.[/p]

Combat Role
[p]Clamper’s strength lies not in strength itself, but in function:[/p]
 • [p]his attacks are weak,[/p]
 • [p]but each move generates energy,[/p]
 • [p]and that energy is what fuels the special abilities of other Mokiton on your team.[/p]
[p]Because he has high defense and a surprisingly large health pool, Clamper can stay on the battlefield for a long time, even while being targeted by multiple opponents. He often ends up functioning as a living battery - stable, sturdy, and always producing.[/p]

Crustide – Higher Evolution Stage
[p][/p][p][/p][p]When Clamper evolves, he becomes Crustide, a taller, bulkier creature that shifts from a squat crab into a semi-bipedal crustacean. His claws grow massive, one of them nearly as large as his torso, and his silhouette becomes far more intimidating.[/p][p]What stays unchanged is the expression:
that same mildly offended stare, just… bigger.[/p][p][/p]

Evolution Comparison
[p][/p][p]This evolution highlights a clear progression:[/p]
 • [p]from small → to large[/p]
 • [p]from defensive → to even more resilient[/p]
 • [p]from passive-looking → to “don’t mess with me” presence[/p]
 • [p]from soft curves → to strong plates and angular claws [/p]
[p]Crustide doesn’t completely shift roles - he remains a support unit, but evolves into one that can withstand far harsher encounters and generate energy for far longer.[/p][p][/p]

[p][/p][p]That’s it for now, we’ll see you in the next dev diary.[/p][p]If you have any questions, please be sure to ask them, and we can answer them in future dev diaries as well.[/p][p][/p][p]Thanks for reading,[/p][p]Tamer Town dev Team.[/p][p][/p][p] [/p]

Join our socials & Wishlist us on Steam!
[p][/p][p]You can find us on Twitter, /r/Tamertown, Discord, Bluesky for updates, behind-the-scenes looks, and community chats![/p][p]
