Weekly Dev Log for August 8th, 2022

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Weekly Dev Log for August 8th, 2022, detailing all the changes that have happened since July 25th, 2022. Note: Devs that don't appear in the weekly log are not necessarily away or not doing work, but may be working on things currently not announced or backend work that doesn't need to be detailed.

[h2]Accessibility Suggestions[/h2]
We've created a forum post asking the community for suggestions on how we can improve gameplay for players with certain conditions such as colorblindness, dyslexia, or anything else that might affect a players ability to use the standard presentation and controls of the game.

[h2]August / September 2022 Art Contest ONGOING[/h2]
Hey everyone! It's time for another art contest!

Entries are allowed until September 8, 2022 at 11:59PM CT.

Be sure to check out the prizes and follow the rules! Submit a digital or traditional drawing, a video, 3D model, an animation, etc of Tower Unite for entry.

1st Place - 1,000,000 Units
2nd Place - 750,000 Units
3rd Place - 500,000 Units

[h2]Casino: Phase 2[/h2]
Most of the work on Casino: Phase 2 has been completed. We're currently in the clean-up period, fixing some last minute bugs and conducting internal play tests. We plan on having a Public Beta Test for Casino: Phase 2 at some point in the future before the main release, so stay tuned on our Discord and Twitter for information.

macdguy finished working on Blackjack, added sounds to Roulette, and fixed bugs with Silver Saddles and Bingo. He also worked on fixing up general event logic for all the games.

Double EXP Fishing Weekend Event!



Fish and earn double EXP during this weekend event starting this Friday and ending on Monday. There's also a bunch of more rare fish swimming around for you to catch this weekend as well!

Tower Unite will occasionally feature events that multiply your rewards for playing the game! Have fun fishing and stay tuned for further events!

macdguy finished up work on Bingo, getting the logic, screen, gameplay, betting, and rewards systems finished. He also worked on updating the "Game Helper" UI from the Arcade so that it can be used anywhere in the Plaza.

Johanna finished working on Virus: Corrosion. She also continued working on SDNL: Frostbite.

Madmijk continued working on condo instruments. He also worked on Keyboard Localization, so the game can auto convert keyboard layouts (such as AZERTY to QWERTY). For non-latin character keyboards, the system will also represent these characters on key prompts.

Nuclearxpotato continued working on Virus: Altar, converting parts of the blockout into actual meshes. He also worked on a new Condo fan item.

Sketchman continued working on improvements to the AI system.

Wheezwer worked on concept art for the Fresh NPC and other store NPCs.

Will continued working on music for SDNL.

Work continues on the next phase of the Casino.

macdguy fixed several bugs with Roulette and Silver Saddles. He added 3D bet indicators to Silver Saddles for better tracking of horse bets. He also continued working on Bingo, making the final touches. The Spin 2 Win second wheel had its graphics finished and item reward code completed.

Johanna continued working on the new Virus map, Corrosion. The sound pass has been completed and the map is getting the final stage of polish before release.

Johanna continued working on the art pass for the SDNL map, Frostbite.

[h2]New Items, Media Player Settings, and Condo I/O[/h2]

Two new Media Player items will be added to a future update, a Catsack Head TV (found via Catsacks), and a Broken TV (found via Fishing).

Media Players now have new settings, allowing the player to change the saturation, turn on/off Scanlines, and adjust glare. The new TV items will have some of these settings on or off by default, but they're adjustable in the item settings.

Persistent Connections for Condo I/O is completed. Shown in previous developer logs, this feature allows the player to connect items together in unique ways. Unlike event based connections, such as a button press, persistent connections feed data directly into another item, such as the video output of the Security Camera into a Media Player.

Finally, we've revamped our internal item settings system to allow us to more easily add small settings to individual items with low impact to development time. For example, the additional settings added to the Trampoline below took less than 3 minutes to add. This new system will also help reduce bugs as they're automatically supported by the Copycat and Undo tools. Over time, we will be slowly porting over items to the new system.
