Weekly Dev Log for February 8th, 2021

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Weekly Dev Log for February 8th, 2021, detailing all the changes that have happened since February 1st, 2021. Note: Devs that don't appear in the weekly log are not necessarily away or not doing work, but may be working on things currently not announced or backend work that doesn't need to be detailed.

[h2]Update 0.13.4.1[/h2]
Once Update 0.13.4.0 was released, we started working on Update 0.13.4.1. This update includes bug fixes and various improvements. You can read more about this upcoming update here.

[h2]February 2021 Condo Contest[/h2]
This month, we're running a "Night Out (or In)" themed condo contest. This contest will end on March 1st, 2021. First place winner will take home at least 1,000,000 units, and all participants may be rewarded 75,000 units! You can read the details here.

[h2]Accessibility Suggestions[/h2]
We've created a forum post asking the community for suggestions on how we can improve gameplay for players with certain conditions such as colorblindness, dyslexia, or anything else that might affect a players ability to use the standard presentation and controls of the game.

If you have any ideas or suggestions, and possible solutions on how to solve a particular issue, please check out the forum post here.

Johanna worked on completing the sign for "Ultimate Cow Wheel".

macdguy worked on gameplay for "Coloracle 2: Whose Hue?", as well as the multiplayer support.

Madmijk worked on fixing bugs with "Captain Calypso's Planetary Piano", as well as helping with "Coloracle 2: Whose Hue?".

Wheezwer continued working on art for "Ultimate Cow Wheel".

Johanna continued working on the polishing pass to Sweet Tooth, updating several models, adding thematic sides to the courses, and improving the lighting.

macdguy worked on a redesign of the Tower Unite website to better show off the games and features Tower Unite has to offer.

JJosh continued working on the model for the Condo Tool Glove, which will be the replacement for all of the individual Condo tools. He also worked on a few props for Johanna's Sweet Tooth overhaul.

Lifeless started working on a new condo.

macdguy worked on bug fixes, playtested SDNL and Weapons, continued updating item icons, and made a new logo for Slaughterday Night Live.

Madmijk continued working on fixes for "Planetary Piano".

Sketchman looked into optimizations to the backend systems, and is working on identifying and fixing crashes.

Wheezwer worked on concept art for Plaza NPCs, continued redesigning the Virus infected model, and started making concepts for the Fresh and Celebration store art passes.

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Weekly Dev Log for February 1st, 2021, detailing all the changes that have happened since January 25th, 2021. [h2]Update 0.13.4.1[/h2]
Once Update 0.13.4.0 was released, we started working on Update 0.13.4.1. This update will include an overhaul to the Condo canvas system, which now will have a default (player-customizable) list of image hosting providers. Players can choose to add or remove image provider domains to this list, and will be warned when entering a condo that has canvases that are hosted on image hosts that aren't trusted. Last week, we released Update 0.13.4.0, which included the first 9-holes of the new Minigolf map, "Dark". You can read more about this update here.

[h2]January 2021 Condo Contest Ends[/h2]
The January 2021 Condo Contest has ended, and congratulations to "Tipper", "Plasma", and "muntyStain" for their first, second, and third place wins! You can view the submissions here.

Johanna worked on the sign for "Prismatic", created the machine model for another coin pusher named "Coin River", and worked on the machine model for "Ultimate Cow Wheel".

Wheezwer worked on art for the various coin pusher machines.

Will worked on music for "Coloracle" and "Prismatic", as well as finishing all of the sounds for "Prismatic".

[h2]Condo Canvas System Overhaul[/h2]
macdguy worked on overhauling the Condo Canvas System. The new system will include a default list of approved image hosts, which can be modified by the player if they choose to add or remove domains. Upon entering a condo, the player will be warned of any canvases which are hosted on image host that isn't in their approved list.

Minigolf: Dark Update (0.13.4.0)



Minigolf: Dark

The first nine holes of a new Minigolf map are now available to play! In Minigolf: Dark, players will navigate a shadowy, glowing forest. You can use light sources scattered around the course, or take your turns strategically as you watch your fellow players disappear into the shadows.

New Inventory Tools

In this update we also added two new inventory tools: Transformer tool and the (Un)Locker tool. The transformer tool is useful for swiftly changing position, rotation, and scale of items in one click. You can add transforms or set transforms to each item. The (Un)Locker tool is a tool that lets you quickly look at an item and lock or unlock it from being edited.

Changes
  • Added new Minigolf map: Dark (first 9 holes)
  • Condo: Added the Transformer tool for swiftly manipulating the position, rotation, and scale of items
  • Condo: Added a Lock tool for quickly locking/unlocking items
  • Collection Book: Added a back button on the leaderboards menu to go back to the leaderboards of the map that was selected
  • Collection Book: Added a front page that lists achievements related to the map you are currently playing
  • Collection Book: Added collectibles tab to the collection book, which shows all hidden items in the game
  • Condo scoreboard now automatically stays open when you enter condo settings, regardless if you have the tab key held down or not


Bug Fixes
  • Collection Book: Fixed the collection book not remembering what map you had selected for leaderboards menu
  • Fixed shadows popping out too prematurely

Work is wrapping up on Update 0.13.4.0, which will include the new Minigolf map, "Dark". This map will initially launch with 9 holes, with the other 9 holes being released in a future update. You can read more about this upcoming update here.

Johanna worked on creating the standalone version of "Dragon's Treasure", using the old design for another planned coin pusher.

wheezwer worked on art for the other unnamed coin pusher, and finished the art for the Information Desk NPC.

macdguy worked on improvements for the collection book. There is now a "Map Overview" tab, which will show the achievements for any given map instantly when clicked. There is also now a tab for Hidden and Holiday items, showing each of these items and their descriptions and icons.

Lifeless continued working on the Minigolf map, Dark, getting it ready for release.

macdguy worked on tweaks and changes for Virus, which were released in the last update. He also worked on re-designing the Tower Unite website.

Madmijk made a Condo Item Lock tool, to easily lock Condo items, and started working on fixing some bugs with "Planetary Piano".

Sketchman continued working on fixes and optimizations to the Workshop system, fixing some lingering issues with the changes released in the last update. He added colorable effects to the Ladder item, as well as fixing some issues where the climb targets would not save. He also started working on achievement icons for the newer achievements.

Wheezwer worked on polishing the foliage.

[h2]2020 Year in Review[/h2]
To keep up the tradition of Year in Review posts, we wanted to compile an overview of everything we accomplished at PixelTail Games in 2020.

2020 was a long year for all of us, and we're very grateful for all of the support everyone has given us throughout it. We wish you all the best in 2021, and we will continue work on getting Tower Unite polished, finished, and out of early access.

[h2]Update 0.13.3.0 | Hotfix 0.13.3.1 | Hotfix 0.13.3.2[/h2]
Last week, we released Update 0.13.3.0 which added the new Accelerate map, Wishy Washy Waterfall! The update also included various gameplay changes across Tower Unite, and updated lighting across all of the Little Crusaders maps. You can read more about this update here.

Today, we released Hotfix 0.13.3.1, which included several improvements to the Arcade, along with bug fixes to Virus and Accelerate. You can read more about that hotfix here.

Shortly after, we released another Hotfix 0.13.3.2, which fixed a bug with Workshop Materials not appearing in the editor. You can read about that hotfix here.

JJosh has been working on implementing third-party plushes. The latest plushes JJosh has been working on are "Giraffe" by @jaxamoto and "Little Miss Jelly" by @veronicandjelly. These plushes will be introduced with Arcade: Phase 2.

Madmijk fixed some bugs in Accelerate, and worked on finishing the "transformer" condo tool.

Sketchman continued working on fixes and optimizations to the Workshop system.

Wheezwer continued working on Steam Trading Cards, and worked on the 2020 Year in Review thread.

Will conducted a sound pass on the Plaza. He also started working on sounds and music for Phase 2 of the Arcade while also working on music for the bait shop.
