Weekly Dev Log for November 2nd, 2020

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Weekly Dev Log for November 2nd, 2020, detailing all the changes that have happened since October 26th, 2020. Note: Devs that don't appear in the weekly log are not necessarily away or not doing work, but may be working on things currently not announced or backend work that doesn't need to be detailed.

[h2]Hot Fix 0.12.1.2 - OUT NOW![/h2]
Last week, we released Hot Fix 0.12.1.2 which added various optimizations to the plaza, an updated Main Menu, fixes and gameplay tweaks to Minigolf, and other bug fixes. You can read more about the hot fix here.

[h2]Hot Fix 0.12.1.3 & Hot Fix 0.12.1.4[/h2]
We're currently working on more updates to the game to address various bugs and help remedy crashes. You can read about what's slated to appear in Update 0.12.1.3 here, and Update 0.12.1.4 here.

[h2]October 2020 Condo Contest: Nearly Over - Ends November 3rd![/h2]
This month, we're running a spooky, Halloween-themed Condo Contest! This contest ends at 11:59 PM PST on November 3rd, 2020. Make sure you get your submissions in ASAP! Winner takes home 1,000,000 units! You can read more about the contest, as well as rules for Co-op condo submissions here.

[h2]Priority Survey - October 2020[/h2]
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Priority Survey for October 2020. We really appreciate the feedback, and we've already begun using the data to plan our future roadmap. We'll be making the results of the survey public sometime this week, so keep an eye out for that.

Caboose700 started working on implementing Upgrades and other items.

Johanna continued working on the updated Snow Arena (Nahnia), while also starting work on the Winter Plaza.

JJosh started working on the model for the Tool Glove, a replacement for the various Condo Tools. He also started looking into making a new Workshop Editor tutorial.

Lifeless continued working on Wishy Washy Waterfall, getting it ready for gameplay testing.

macdguy worked to release the hotfix, worked on the overhauled main menu, started working on Upgrades and other bug fixes.

Madmijk fixed various bugs pertaining to fish, while also fixing other bugs.

Sketchman re-factored the Workshop Model management code, worked on fixing various crashes, and worked to reduce the hitching when loading Workshop models.

Wheezwer worked on the enemies and bosses for the Arcade cabinet, "Galaxy Time".

Hot Fix 0.12.1.2

This update focuses on fixing various issues in the game.

Changes
  • Plaza: More optimizations (mainly the Game World ports)
  • Minigolf: You can now putt on moving platform floors (such as Hole 11 on Island)
  • Minigolf - Forest: Hole 7 moving floor platforms can now be putted on while you're still on it
  • Minigolf - Island: Hole 11 moving floor platforms can now be putted on while you're still on it
  • Minigolf - Forest update: Various visual improvements, and hole 7 is now slower
  • Minigolf - Island update: Various visual updates
  • Inventory: Hot bar now automatically closes the inventory list when no longer hovered over
  • You can now freely move your camera around while in instruments (such as Piano and Drumset)
  • Menu: Moved inventory menu access below player profile
  • Menu: Added a new tutorials section
  • Menu: Removed "Play" button as it is irrelevant now
  • Menu: Removed the blue background of the community section
  • Menu: Improved chat box look
  • Menu: Added description titles to Condo sub sections
  • Menu: Completely redid the Game World section to be more user friendly (and less clicks)
  • Added Item Playground mode
  • Made fish rotate more naturally so that they actually look in the direction they swim in
  • Made fish movement ever so slightly erratic


Bug Fixes
  • Refactored workshop player model loading to prevent crashes
  • Fixed fish moving up and down in the Condo pool
  • Little Crusaders: Fixed a camping spot in Knightsend
  • Virus: Fixed a camping spot in Desertion
  • Fixed minigame weapon traces being blockable by players (now the weapon traces go right through players)
  • Fixed fish getting stuck moving at the bottom or top of aquariums
  • Fixed fish sticking their noses out of aquariums
  • Minigolf: Fixed network desync issues with tubes (no longer do clients sit in the tubes for 5 seconds)
  • Fixed halloween ambience music not adhering to Plaza Music Volume setting
  • Resort: Fixed aquarium not being backlit
  • Fixed Trick or Treat candy spawning underground sometimes
  • Fixed key prompt on Electronic Keyboard
  • Fixed condo maps you own sometimes not being able to be selected in the condo menu

[h2]Update 0.12.1.0 - Halloween 2020[/h2]
Last week, we released Update 0.12.1.0, bringing back Halloween to Tower Unite. We also released a Hotfix 0.12.1.1 to fix some bugs, and we're currently working on more hotfixes to fix the various other bugs and crashes.

Halloween will be around in Tower Unite until November 16th, 2020.

[h2]Priority Survey - October 2020[/h2]
Since the Arcade has been released, this survey is all about prioritizing the order of upcoming updates. While we have our own internal goals and direction we want to take the game next, we would love to hear your thoughts on what priority you think we should move in!

Johanna continued working on Sunrise Isles: Track 2, and the upgraded Plaza snow battle arena (Nahnia).

JJosh finished the model for the new "By the Sea Shore" store.

macdguy worked to release the update, and looked into fixing bugs and crashes.

Madmijk fixed various bugs pertaining to fish.

Sketchman continued working on Workshop related crashes and bugs, while helping get the update released.

Hot Fix 0.12.1.1

This update focuses on fixing various issues in the game.

We are aware of the recent workshop player model crashes that have been occurring. We are actively working on resolving these crashes ASAP.

Changes
  • Plaza: Optimization of various things
  • Updated emote list to be sorted by emote types (dances, poses, etc.)
  • Added new emotes: Frog, Dab Loop, Lighter Sway, Rough Convict, Vibin', Vomit, Facepalm, Pray, Face Splat, and Thinker
Bug Fixes
  • We are still working on resolving more workshop player model crashes
  • Fixed quests not auto saving progress (prevents loss of quest progress if you crash or disconnect improperly)
  • Plaza: Fixed greenhouse lacking collisions
  • Resort: Fixed lack of rain/wind sounds
  • Resort: Fixed fish getting out of the aquarium
  • Fixed new Halloween items not showing in Halloween category in Celebrations
  • Ball Race: Fixed pumpkin clock wearable items colliding with camera
  • Zombie Massacre: Fixed collision issues in Gasoline

HALLOWEEN 2020 EVENTS ARE HERE!


Halloween Plaza 2020

The plaza is decked out for another spooky Halloween event!
Enjoy the haunted festivities by collecting remains, finding bones, and unlocking various Halloween exclusive items. Be sure to check out the Ghoulcery, because it is back again with new items for you to spend your Ghoul Coins on. And, if you search the coast line, you’ll see that a maze has once again surfaced to be explored!

New Additions!

The unknown can be one of the scariest concepts in existence, so we’ve once again added several new additions to the Halloween Plaza for you to explore this Halloween!

Halloween Achievements

We've added lots of new Halloween-exclusive achievements this year. Participate in new quests and scavenger hunts throughout the plaza to earn them, and be sure to check them out in your collection book, too!

Halloween EXP & Milestones

This year you can earn Halloween EXP for participating in Halloween events such as Halloween minigames, collecting candy or remains, completing Halloween achievements, and completing Halloween quests!

As you increase your Halloween EXP, you can unlock Halloween milestones such as throwable blood wine and a drivable Minecart!

Return of the Ghoul Coins

While playing games in Tower Unite during this year's Halloween event, you'll earn Ghoul Coins. These coins can be redeemed in the Plaza for Halloween items. You can earn them by playing Plaza minigames or Game Worlds. This year you can earn Ghoul Coins at the Arcade and through Fishing!



Halloween Minigames

The Plaza minigames have not been left out of the Halloween fun. Participate in the Ghost Hunting and Pumpkin Smash minigames on the Event platform, and you uncover a lot of pumpkins along the way!

New Lighthouse and Sea Store

Kalleira has a newly designed store in the lighthouse, which has been updated to fit the revamped art in the rest of the plaza! On your way around the Boardwalk to the lighthouse area, you can also stop by the new By the Sea Shore Store, which has been given its own location in an enchanting cave.

Virus & Zombie Massacre FX and Art Revamp

Both Gasoline and Compound have been fully revamped and polished with more detailed storefronts and ambience, among other fixes. We also polished all the Virus weapon effects, adding in new tracer effects, decals and hit sounds.

  • Zombie Massacre: Fixed Gold Melon item being really bright
  • Zombie Massacre: Fixed Tesla Zap and Transplant particles glowing really bright in Compound
  • Zombie Massacre: Fixed spider boss acid stacking vertically
  • Zombie Massacre: Fixed spider boss acid not always following the spider properly, leading to the acid not spawning in correct places, making the acid not really a challenge. Now it's a challenge
  • Fixed treasure items spawning in bad places sometimes
  • Fixed item snapping slots stretching on stretched items
  • Fixed blood/vomit decals not showing up due to a bad setting parameter
