Nothern Shaman's Tambourine

Every shaman must have his own tambourine, this is the law. The tambourine is the voice of the shaman, his companion and the first guide to the world of spirits. This is not just a flat drum with a mallet, oh no, the tambourine is a living creature, or rather, a dwelling for a small spirit. This is true, at least if we are talking about a real shamanic tambourine, and not about a souvenir craft bought from a passing peddler in the Village of the Frost Tribe.

These tambourines - real and souvenir - have a lot in common. For example, you can knock on them in the same way. They also have beautiful fur upholstery and a wooden cross to make it comfortable to hold the instrument. Well, the drawing, yes.

The pattern on the membrane of the tambourine is literally a story being told. On the most ancient tambourines they depicted scenes of hunting and everyday life, painted various animals, trees, mountains, rivers, stars... But then the plots began to change. The shamans were no longer drawing small sketches, they were trying to draw the very structure of the world! Some succeeded, some did not, but you and I hardly have the right to judge how competently some shaman transferred onto his tightly stretched skin what was revealed to him during his travels to other worlds. One thing is certain - the more powerful the shaman, the more accurately he remembered and reproduced what he saw.

And what we have in front of us now is not a souvenir craft, this is a real tambourine of the supreme shaman! He was found in the abandoned hut of a spirit seer near the peak of Frostfangs. Where the old man went will remain a mystery forever. Maybe he went north, or maybe the spirits finally called him to themselves, and there, in other worlds, he no longer needed a guide.

One way or another, the shaman set off on his last endless journey, and his faithful assistant was left alone. It is not suitable for such a powerful object to be buried under the snows of the Valley of Cold, so now the high shaman’s tambourine will be transferred to safe hands. Maybe it’s yours.

It is unlikely that you will be able to use the tambourine for its intended purpose, and it is unlikely that it will open the way for a stranger to other worlds, but the spirit living in it will definitely be grateful for salvation from snow captivity and careful care of its home. I guarantee that this little thing will bring a bit of luck to its new owner. And who knows, maybe he will reveal to him the secrets of our world.

Shaman's hat

What do you know about shamans? Not about demonic shamans in carved masks, conjuring the Abyss and sending curses, but about others, ancient, real? You can live your entire life in Erycuria and not meet a single spirit seer. They live secretly, on the very outskirts of the civilized world, where progress and the war that follows on its heels have not yet reached.

There, on the very edge of civilization, in remote villages in the north, you can still meet one of the real shamans. They are laconic, their faces are always hidden under outlandish headdresses made of leather and fur, and, looking at their bent and emaciated bodies, you might think that they bear the entire weight of this world. In part, this is true.

You cannot become a shaman, their art cannot be learned, their gift cannot even be comprehended. Shamans who speak with spirits are born. Nature itself teaches them to see, hear and cry. He reveals his secrets to them and sends guides to other worlds. But the shaman himself cannot do anything of his own free will. He is only a servant of his people and other, incomprehensible forces. That’s why the load on their shoulders is so heavy, and that’s why they hardly talk to others. It is difficult to be the only sighted person among the blind.

That is why shamans wear their wonderful hats that hide their faces, with eyes sewn on top of the skin and fur, looking forward. Others should not know what truths the shaman sees when performing rituals over the bed of a sick person, over a dead bear, in a clearing under the full moon. These truths are visible only to himself. However, the shaman does not need his own eyes; he sees with his heart. But others would be afraid to ask a blind old man for help.

The shaman’s hat with sewn eyes is a symbol of his limitless power and endless weakness, a symbol of his knowledge and faithful service to others. When trying on this hat, remember what it means. You won’t become shamans, even if you spend a whole year in it, but you will still lightly touch their path, fate and bitter sadness.

However, you can consider it just an interesting souvenir.

The Story of The Bear

There are animals about which they sing songs, there are animals about which they tell tales and joke loudly, there are animals about which they speak in low tones. And there is a beast that is talked about only in whispers, but more often they are simply silent. Even his name is forbidden to be spoken out loud, and if you need to address him somehow, they simply say “master” or “bear.”

The king of the summer forest, whom both animals and small spirits reckon with, fierce in anger, but also a faithful helper in need - if only you know how to show him your respect. Everyone who lives in the forest knows the bear, fears it and has unlimited respect for it.

And everyone also knows that in winter the bear sleeps, and under no circumstances should you wake it up. The king of the forest, who awakens at the wrong time, loses his mind and brings only death and ruin to everything that comes his way. If this happens, residents of the surrounding villages get together and organize a hunt, because otherwise it is simply impossible to stop the raging hungry bear. Each such case is a great tragedy, and bears awaken more and more every year. Pundits believe that the ash that constantly erupts from the Sulfur Heart is to blame. Maybe that's how it is.

But sometimes some wandering shaman may meet the connecting rod, and then the fate of the beast will turn out differently. No one knows how shamans pacify the spirit of the forest king and make his madness recede. Just as no one knows why such bears leave their possessions and stay with the shamans forever.

Sometimes you can meet a spirit seer with a tambourine, traveling on the back of a bear through frozen forests and icy plains. And I tell you, you will never forget this sight!

And sometimes a sorcerer, a warrior, and even a monk can be on the back of a bear! After all, if some shaman manages to save more than one animal, he will have to give it up - always in good hands and for hard cash. Of course, the shamans themselves do not use money, but they are always ready to help their home village.

And even though the riding bear has lost its memory, most of its strength and is no longer the master of the forest, it remains a formidable beast and protector for the one it carries on its back.

The main thing is to remember to feed him enough and always be respectful to him.
