Development Update

Hi everyone,

Just a quick update to let you know that the development of Super Arcade Football is progressing well.
We had bit of a setback due to the coronavirus pandemic. We're now back at full strength working on the game and we plan to complete development around the end of the year.

We could not be happier with your appreciation and support for the new pixel version. We'll be releasing an update in a few weeks for you all to try. The plan is to bring back Mac compatibility and make the new version of the game the default one (not just on the 'arcade' branch).

Thank you again for your great support and see you soon!

New Build

Hi everyone!

We hope you are all safe and well.
We promised you to make a build available during EGX Rezzed 2020.
Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Rezzed has been postponed (but the great people behind Rezzed have organised an online version of Rezzed, called Rezzed Digital).

Despite everything that's being going on, we've worked hard on Super Arcade Football to make the build available to you as promised and we're excited to share with you the first build of the new version! (Super Arcade Football build 0.700)

To try this new version select the 'arcade' branch on Steam (restart Steam, then right-click on the game's title and select properties, then go to 'betas' and select 'arcade', no password needed).

At the moment the build is only available for PC (Mac support will be added later) and has two options, quick match and online multiplayer.
This is a very early build but we think it's a good foundation on which to develop the rest of the game.
To play, simply use a gamepad or WASD and space (or the arrow keys and CTRL).

The new version is based on our custom made engine, the same used for the much loved Super Arcade Racing.
This allows us to have complete control on every aspect of the game (graphics, audio, loading times, server side communication, etc...) and give you the best experience with the lowest online latency.

We've been playing online to test this version and we're are having a lot of fun. We hope you guys enjoy it too and we can't wait to play against you!

Thanks for playing!

We're Back!

Hey everyone,

It’s about time we gave you guys an announcement on what’s going on with Super Arcade Football.

In short, we are back working on Super Arcade Football full-time. We’re a small team and the game ran into a bit of an unmaintainable bog. So, as we mentioned in our last post (more than a year ago, blimey) we decided to pause development. We didn’t want to rush something out that wasn’t fitting with our original vision, we weren't pleased with the way the game was developing as we felt it was slowly moving away from its arcade roots.

During this break, we focused ourselves on completing a different game in the “Super Arcade” series: Super Arcade Racing.
We are happy to announce that this game is now fully released on Steam, and serves as a proof that with more organisation and man power we can release a fully featured arcade game which sticks to our vision.

With this much needed refreshment, we are back and ready to go full force into the development of SAF. The plan is to have the new version of the game playable at the next EGX Rezzed in London (between March and April).

The version of the game is the same as it was since the last announcement, we will update the game as soon as we have an early build on a separate branch, once we've got the basic gameplay working again.

We cannot thank you enough for your patience and understanding, and please accept this as an apology for the unbearably long radio silence.

We’ll be back in contact soon (heard that before, right!?). Just know that we are now working on this project full time. Any questions you have, we will do our best to answer.

We believe in SAF, we hope you all do too.

Let’s do this.

BIG SAF Development Update!

Big Announcement :/

Hey guys, we have an important announcement to make this week, and it is in regards to the future of Super Arcade Football...

We've been talking it over, and we think that the current direction we are going with SAF is not the right one. In the past few months we have put too much focus on the whole 3D aspect of the game; Adding in the stadiums, crowd, new camera modes etc, and all this has made the game feel more like it is being geared towards a much bigger project, and one that would take many many months to complete. We feel this has detracted from the original vision we had of the game, which was more of a pure, simple arcade soccer experience. And so we want to return to this original concept.

Before the project balloons any further, and turns into something completely unmanageable, we have decided to scale down this new release. We've stripped out the things we think were not working to our liking (The crowd, stadium etc) and are now going to focus entirely on gameplay for the time-being. All features remain the same, you can still play online, create teams, play tournaments, export replays etc. It's mainly the visuals and controls that have been stripped back. This version also brings with it some much needed optimisations for loading times, frame rate performances, as well as bug fixes.

We're also going to take a break for a few months, as this was not an easy decision to make. After working on this project for so long (those of you who've been with us since the beginning know more than anyone how long it's been ːsteamsadː) we think we need a pause so we can come back to the project with fresh eyes.

We will of course leave the previous version of SAF on a different branch. If you wish to play that verision, you can access it by going to:

SuperArcadeFootball -> Properties -> BETAS and type in the code:
SuperArcadeFootball

We really appreciate the support you guys have given us, seriously, and this is not a decision we take lightly. But ultimately we want to make a great game, and think this is best course of action for everyone.

It's not over, it's just half-time.

Speak soon.
