American Dream

Chapter 1 – Unrest
  • Date: June 6, 2043
  • Location: Monument Valley, Utah

Europe was not the only territory affected by Enigma’s onslaught. The mysterious organization started actively supporting various insurgency groups and terrorists all across the world, including in what used to be the United States of America.

The most prominent of them were the Lions of Nequiel, a brutal sect of frenzied warriors controlled by fanatical priests. Until recently, they were only a minor nuisance but, in the absence of corporate law, they started taking over Clayburn Industries facilities (a company, which controlled many southern states following the Seahawk affair) and to impose their cruel beliefs upon all who lived in the area.

But the Americans would not be easily subdued. A resistance movement (calling itself simply “the Resistance”) quickly arose in the Arizona badlands under the leadership of Ryan Miller, arming itself with both the leftover National Guard arms and assault rifles held by practically every household, proving once again the old rule that a dictatorship can only flourish amongst the disarmed.

Ryan Miller was a former sheriff turned vigilante after he saw the evils of sectarian extremism in practice. Being a respected member of his community, he quickly convinced others to join the fight.

One hot, dry day in June, Ryan’s unit was patrolling the area when they intercepted a distress call from his men nearby. They quickly proceeded to investigate, only to find the Resistance base as well as all local fighters under a massive attack by Lions’ armored forces with helicopter support. Miller was no stranger to these fanatics but the ferocity of the assault surprised even him. Additionally, the Lions of Nequiel had the support of a large drone of unknown origin.

In the end, the drone was taken out by Miller’s unit and the Lion attempt to destroy the Resistance was thwarted, but not without taking some losses, which left Miller wondering as to what would make the Lions so bold after a couple of months of relatively light skirmishes. What was even more worrying was the fact that the Lions of Nequiel had taken many Resistance fighters prisoner and had hauled them away.

Chapter 2 – Rescue Mission
  • Date: June 27, 2043
  • Location: Denver, Colorado

Miller’s team learned that the prisoners had been taken to Denver, Colorado, where the sect’s HQ was located. Miller immediately started planning a rescue operation, scraping together as many resources as he could find on short notice. In the end, him, a unit of armored vehicles and a heliborne team of commandos headed out to fight the enemy on his own ground.

They took the Lions of Nequiel by surprise, overwhelming the HQ’s defenses in a matter of minutes. In there, they found out that the prisoners were being sent to a facility of an organization called Enigma – by train, no less. Miller used this opportunity well. His commandos captured the train with the prisoners and, in a daring break-out, managed to clear the city under the cover of the Resistance armor, learning about a secret Enigma facility near Green River in the process.

Chapter 3 – New Enemy
  • Date: July 3, 2043
  • Location: Green River, Wyoming

The coordinates from Denver pointed towards the town of Green River and to a nearby dam. Arriving there, Ryan Miller and his team found a massive military base with high-tech turrets and Lions of Nequiel forces protecting it, clearly acting as security for the Enigma organization. Pushing into the facility, the Resistance started capturing its buildings one by one using commandos and hacking the Enigma network.

The files obtained from the hack unveiled little about the mysterious nature of the enemy but several important facts came to light. Enigma’s been around for at least two decades, developing technology since the late 2020s and was preparing for the takeover for a very long time, securing the support of every major insurgency in the process while fanning the flames of anti-corporate unrest. Furthermore, the name Magnus Holter popped up in the data several times.

The assault was interrupted by the arrival of enemy reinforcements. These – much to the surprise of Ryan Miller –did not, however, belong to the Lions of Nequiel, but to the NPAA – a former anti-government patriotic American militia that would normally have no common ground with a sect. Seeing these two actually working together made Miller realize the scope of the threat.

But this concern would soon be overshadowed by yet another find. Enigma had a military satellite with an unknown weapon aimed at the main Resistance base in Monument Valley (unbeknownst to Ryan, this was the same weapon that had destroyed the center of Moscow three months prior). This threat could not be ignored. Miller quickly ordered the base evacuated but as it turned out, the satellite could not have been shut down from the spot. Instead, Miller and his team had to race towards the satellite control station located in a place Ryan Miller would have never guessed...

Chapter 4 – Satellite
  • Date: July 6, 2043
  • Location: Area 51, Nevada

Enigma took over the famous U.S. Air Force Area 51 base and transformed it to its image. As Miller and his team fought their way through the outer defenses, strange, almost alien-looking buildings gave them an oppressive and foreboding feeling. Awaiting them was an entire armada of Enigma forces, ready to protect their masters’ secrets.

After a prolonged and difficult battle, Miller’s troops started capturing one command tower after another in their desperate search for the satellite’s kill switch. Enigma wasn’t idle either, throwing everything they had at Miller, including a fleet of massive aerial carriers. Upon their arrival, Miller realized there would be no escape for him – not this time.

In a last ditch effort, Miller managed to obtain the data needed for the Resistance Officer Austin Harper – his friend and guide – to shut down the satellite, asking him to tell the leader of the European Resistance branch, Hana Buric, everything he had learned before being overwhelmed by Enigma reinforcements and killed. Harper vowed to continue the fight in his name and the data, paid for with Miller’s sacrifice, would eventually allow Hana Buric’s forces to assault the heart of Enigma’s Moscow operation two months later.

The Special Operations story will continue in Update 0.31. Stay tuned!

Mechanized Infantry: FAQ

Commanders!

Last week, we’ve unveiled one of the most important American Dream season features – Mechanized Infantry!

Since then, we have collected a number of your questions regarding this topic and, today, we’d like to give you the answers to the most commonly asked ones. Without further ado, here they are.

What are your thoughts regarding making coaxial and cupola-mounted MGs usable, now that they would actually serve a purpose – fighting infantry?

That's something we want to look into after the initial Mechanized Infantry feedback and statistics are in. It's far more effective to balance MI's attack power first and only after that balance special anti-infantry countermeasures (and coax MGs are basically purely anti-infantry). However, the general plan is to add coax MGs to the game as semi-automatic fire mode, since the infantry needs those countermeasures in any case. That would mean that right-clicking an enemy soldier would make the coax MG open fire on the targeted squad.

Will the AI opponents also be able to use Mechanized Infantry?

Not in Update 0.30. It’s something we are planning to look into in Update 0.31 but, again, it’s far easier to properly balance the feature for PvP and only consider its use by the AI afterwards.

How about making a special Infantry type that would repair your or allied vehicles?

Maybe in the future, more squad types are planned for Update 0.31 and beyond. First, we have to get the three basic ones working properly.

Will the Mortar Squad have a minimum range?

Yes, but not that big – we’re talking about perhaps 40 meters here. This is a bit shorter than the actual minimum mortar range, which is around 80-100 meters. However, the final decision will be taken after seeing the PTS results (yes, there will be a PTS round for this feature).

How easy to spot will a Mechanized Infantry squad be?

Each squad will have its own camouflage factor that will work the same way as it does for vehicles, ranging from approximately 40% camouflage for the Mortar Squad to 75% for a sniper. This may sound like a lot, but keep in mind that MI will also use the 50 meter automatic spotting range rule. In practice, the actual spotting range for a sniper versus a 500m viewrange vehicle would look like this:

50 + (500 - 50) * (1 - 0.75) = 162m

Additionally, infantry also loses camouflage for firing. But, in any case, it will be harder to spot than a tank (which is completely logical).

The T-15 is rather powerful already, contrary to the Rosomaks and Cobras, which do need quite a buff to be decent. Won't that make the T-15 a bit too strong?

Most infantry-carrying vehicles actually do need a buff to perform at least decently. For the few that don’t, we'll review their performance after the introduction of Mechanized Infantry and will take steps to make sure they do not overperform, including possibly limiting their infantry options.

Will the infantry use buildings as cover?

Infantry AI does recognize covers and can go around them to engage targets or to dodge enemy tanks. However, infantry using "pop out, shoot, then get back into cover" tactic turned out to be very annoying during internal playtesting, which is why we decided to not let them do it, at least while we haven't enabled coaxial MGs for tanks to use. Currently, stealth is infantry's best protection and it doesn’t take much effort to take down a squad when spotted. As for whether the infantry will be able to enter and occupy buildings to turn them into ad-hoc fortifications – that’s currently not planned.

Will we see infantry in future PvE missions without vehicles, just as an enemy?

Yes, that’s planned for the next series of Special Operations that are coming in Update 0.31.

Does infantry carry limited or unlimited ammunition?

It's currently unlimited, but we may introduce some limits depending on how it performs.

Will commander skills affect infantry?

Regular commander skills will not affect deployed infantry squads, even though they can be used against it (i.e. Erin's spot-through-foliage skill would help your vehicle see enemy infantry through foliage but would not help your own infantry). We are planning to introduce infantry-specific commander skills later, such as "increase your infantry's camouflage factor by 10%."

Will it be possible for the infantry to hold fire and only engage the enemy when commanded to do so?

We plan to let players order their infantry to open or hold fire, but that's likely to come later.

Can the mortars or rocket teams aim in front of moving vehicles in order to hit them?

Yes, but not very well. This is a deliberate choice to make staying mobile a valid anti-infantry tactic.

Will the infantry have its own AI-controlled abilities such as target designation?

We plan to let the deployed snipers designate targets in the future. As for giving the AI vehicles some abilities of their own, we don't want to do that. Given the usual way the AI opponents outnumber players in a PvE match, giving the AI extra abilities would make them too powerful since bots do not care about cooldowns or their own survival. They’d just spam these abilities without end and being targeted by a group of such bots at the same time would lead to unwinnable scenarios. Some special AIs may be given extra abilities, but not all of them.

See you on the battlefield!

Developer Anniversary Stream Summary

Commanders!

If you watched our recent Anniversary stream, you know that, in it, we unveiled some of the plans for the future of Armored Warfare. But if you missed it, don’t worry – you can either re-watch it on the video below, or learn more about the game’s future in this article.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

It’s been an eventful year so far – we launched several seasons, including the latest one called American Dream, with many new features, vehicles and maps.

But some of the most important changes have been happening behind the scenes, so to say. As of September 1, 2019, Armored Warfare is no longer published by My.com – instead, the PC version of the game was purchased by a fresh and eager Moscow operations team consisting of veterans with many years of experience behind their belts.

The entire structure – including the servers and the whole development team – had been transferred over the course of many months to make sure that no negative side effects would affect you, the players. We are, of course, still working closely with My.com and are pleased to confirm that Armored Warfare will become one of the games in the recently announced MY.GAMES brand portfolio.

Rest assured that, as the new owners of Armored Warfare project, we are committed to running it for years to come and to make changes to the project based on both your wishes and the vision of the developers.

As for our concrete plans, American Dream will run until the end of 2019 winter with the following content awaiting you this season:

The next Battle Path will be American-themed and will feature several new vehicles, including a rather exciting top prize. Naturally, there will be also other rewards such as skins, flags and much more. In addition to that, you can look forward to many events and celebrations, gifts, bonuses, contests and more.

We are, of course, working hard on the next season that will be coming in the early 2020. Here’s what you can definitely look forward to next year:
  • New Asian progression vehicle branch
  • Another Battle Path campaign
  • A new PvP map
  • Plenty of new mechanics as well as old mechanic overhauls

We are also reviewing old features that might get a comeback (did someone say “military base”?) and supporting the growing – yes, growing – population of the game with quality of life improvements.

We’d like to take the opportunity to address the matter of Armored Warfare on different platforms – specifically Playstation and Xbox.

During our communication with players, we’ve noticed a lot of questions regarding those two games. Unfortunately, we cannot answer those questions since the console versions of Armored Warfare are essentially different products from the PC version and were not a part of the deal. As such, the right to answer any queries regarding them falls to My.com only. For any information about those games, please follow their respective pages:

Last but definitely not least, we’d like to thank all of you, the players, without whom nothing of this would be possible. Thank you for your support, for your care, even for your criticisms – but, most importantly, thank you for playing Armored Warfare.
