Preview: American Dream

Commanders!

Another season is launching soon and, this time, we’ll be moving from Moscow to what used to be the United States of America, which is why we decided to name it American Dream.

The American Dream season will focus on various U.S.-themed pieces of content, including new vehicles, Special Operation missions and a gorgeous Arizona Garage.

It will also bring major changes to existing mechanics as well as the introduction of new ones. It is no understatement to say that some of this season’s features will change the nature of Armored Warfare gameplay forever, so let’s get to the details.

Here’s what awaits you at the launch of the American Dream season with Update 0.30:

New Vehicles

Oscar Faraday will be receiving a new set of high-Tier progression vehicles, each of them fairly different and with its own unique abilities and play style. These vehicles will be possible to unlock from other dealers’ trees and vehicles. The Update 0.30 launch will include the following machines:
  • Griffin 50mm Tier 8 AFV - unlocked from the Leclerc Prototype, this Griffin will be the heavy IFV version of the program. Gameplay-wise, it will feature a tremendously powerful and accurate automatic cannon, allowing it to snipe at longer distances (learn more about its history)
  • M113 Hellfire Tier 9 TD - unlocked from the Griffin 50mm, this fragile but potent vehicle will feature multiple Hellfire ATGM launchers, allowing it to devastate its targets at long distances (learn more)
  • TTB Tier 9 MBT - unlocked from the M1A2 Abrams, this vehicle represents the future of the Abrams MBT, at least the way the American developers saw it in the 1980s. With its unmanned turret and a plethora of upgrades (including a hydraulic suspension), you will have to see the “what if the Cold War never ended” Abrams future in action (learn more)
  • M48 GAU-8 Tier 10 TD - unlocked from the TTB, this vehicle will feature a brand new mechanic that is coming to Armored Warfare - a rotary cannon. Spin those barrels and let the enemies experience several dozen rounds per second (learn more)

Two more progression vehicles will be arriving at a later date during the season:
  • T249 Vigilante featuring a massive 37mm rotary cannon, unlocked from the Tier 8 BMPT Terminator
  • M8 with LOSAT missiles, featuring new mechanics for hypersonic kinetic ATGMs

Unlike the previous season, however, this one will not feature a new Premium vehicle available for Gold within the game. What it will feature will be new retrofits, camouflages, achievements and a new commander that you are already familiar with - Douglas O’Reilly of the Evocati PMC!

What you might not be familiar with, however, is his commander skillset that will include a new mechanic - the ability to boost the performance of his team mates within a certain radius. We’ll tell you more about Mr. O’Reilly’s very interesting skillset in the future.

American Dream Special Operations

Europe is nearly lost to the mysterious new organization that calls itself Enigma. With its seemingly endless resources, Enigma made itself known during the ill-fated Moscow summit, attacking and defeating the ISD within weeks using previously unseen technologies. Various terrorist groups, lured by the promise of funding, united under its banner, dealing a crippling blow to corporations and forces of order alike.

What little resistance survived the onslaught was forced to hide or flee across the ocean to the lawless territories that used to be a part of the now nearly defunct United States of America only to discover that evil has taken root even in the land of the free.

As Ryan Miller, a former sheriff turned resistance fighter from Arizona, it is up to you to find out more about the mysterious enemy!

Four new Special Operations missions await you, taking place between Enigma’s assault on Salzburg and the Pleternica operation of the Moscow Calling season. Two missions will be available initially at launch with two more coming during the season.

Fresh Contract Mission Campaign

A new Contract Mission campaign awaits you in Update 0.30. Based on your positive feedback, the campaign will feature similar mechanics to the Moscow Calling one, allowing you to obtain the main prize without having to collect Loot Crates or blueprint pieces.

The new prize will be a Tier 9 Premium Tank Destroyer called Stryker ADATS - a Stryker chassis with a turret featuring not only very fast ATGMs, but also unguided rockets. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

Consumable Redesign

We are introducing serious changes to the way the consumables work, including the following changes:
  • Two useless (lowest quality) consumables have been removed
  • The consumables will be split to normal and improved ones
  • All normal consumables are now free to use
  • Removed the old PvE consumables and replacing them with the ability to respawn and to reload ammunition for all players in PvE
  • Added new PvE consumables that provide major temporary bonuses

More information will follow in the detailed patchnotes.

Further Season Plans

These are, of course, not the only things coming during the American Dream season. This season will feature a steady monthly flow of content with some features we are really excited about still in works and coming after the season’s launch. Here’s what you can look forward to in the next couple of months:
  • Two progression vehicles and two Special Operations missions mentioned above
  • A major, yet unannounced feature that we are sure you’ll love
  • New Battalion features, including a new Battalion reward vehicle, the Shadow
  • Dynamic dirt system (vehicles getting progressively more dirty as they drive through dusty, muddy or snowy environments)
  • Improved list of AI vehicles
  • Tank encyclopedia page in your Garage
  • Overhauled player death UI

But that’s still not all. There’s much more coming, including rebalances, bug fixes and culminating with the launch of a new Battle Path campaign that will arrive by the end of the year. The autumn and winter of 2019 will definitely be really exciting and we are looking forward to your first feedback from a PTS session that is launching soon.

See you on the battlefield!

In Development: New Contract Mission Campaign, Stryker ADATS

Commanders!

One of the changes that await you during the next season will be the launch of a new Contract Mission campaign, naturally with a new prize. Overall, we are pleased to say that many of you liked the changes we’ve made to the Contract Missions system in the Moscow Calling season and we will be keeping the mechanics the same for the upcoming season.

In short, the campaign will consist of two stages:
  • First stage contract will allow you to obtain a unique vehicle, the Stryker ADATS Tier 9 Premium Tank Destroyer directly (we will not be reintroducing blueprint collection), replacing the ZUBR PSP
  • Second stage contract kicks in after the first stage is completed, will be repeatable and will consist of the same missions, but the main reward will change to a very special Seasonal Loot Crate

Three mission categories will be available:
  • Easy Daily Mission (small amount of contract progress, possible to complete in a battle or two)
  • Medium Daily Mission (average contract progress, possible to complete in a few battles)
  • Hard Weekly Mission (significant contract progress, requires skill)

The missions will remain the same as they are in the Moscow Calling season and the vehicle contract will be doable within a reasonable time span, although – since we have upgraded the main prize from Tier 7 to Tier 9 – we made the contract itself a bit more difficult (not the missions, just the contract).

The Seasonal Loot Crate was upgraded as well and will (apart from skins, camouflages and temporary Premium vehicles) include the permanent versions of Contract Mission vehicles from previous seasons:
  • K1A1 Tier 7 Premium Main Battle Tank (you can now unlock its components without collecting their blueprints)
  • ZUBR PSP Tier 7 Premium Tank Destroyer

This way, you’ll have the opportunity to receive them in case you missed them during the previous campaigns.

Let us discuss the main contract prize now – the Stryker ADATS Tier 9 Premium Tank Destroyer.

As you might have realized, the vehicle is a combination of two systems:
  • Stryker chassis (that you all know and love)
  • ADATS turret and missiles

In real life, such a vehicle does not exist, although it is a fairly realistic combination – the ADATS turret was offered for a wide variety of platforms and was actively installed on a vehicle that is kind of like a cousin to the Stryker, the Canadian LAV-III. In this configuration, the vehicle was called MMEV, but since the upcoming season will be American-themed and all the progression vehicles in it will bear the Made in USA mark, we wanted to give you something American and have decided to use the Stryker chassis instead.

Before we continue, the usual disclaimer:

This is just an initial idea that shows how we’d like to set the vehicle up in the game. These numbers are therefore all but certain to change after a number of thorough rounds of testing.

With that being said:

The chassis will be a basic Stryker one – no upgraded armor and the Caterpillar C9 450hp engine to propel its 17 tons forward, offering solid mobility and agility for its type, even though the vehicle will be fairly fragile.

What will make it really interesting will be the ADATS turret. ADATS stands for “Air Defense Anti-Tank System,” describing its purpose very well. The system is intended to engage both air and ground armored targets. It was developed in the 1980s by a Swiss company called Oerlikon-Contraves and was offered as an interesting hybrid that would be able to deal with both Soviet tanks and helicopters or attack planes. Unfortunately for it, it came too late – only Canada would actually accept it in service and the end of the Cold War meant the end to all attempts at its large-scale introduction. The ADATS missiles were quite large but, more importantly, extremely fast (Mach 3 or even more) and were certain to be extremely destructive to any Soviet armored targets, even though this thankfully never had to be tested in real combat.

In Armored Warfare, the essentially unarmored turret will be armed with six ADATS missile launchers. The Stryker will be able to launch all six in relatively rapid succession (2s between launches) with each of these missiles carrying a HEAT-MP warhead. The missiles will be fairly standard ones:
  • Penetration: 900mm
  • Damage: 760

The trick to them will be their high flight velocity, making the achievement of hits easier than usual. The ADATS missiles will be some of the fastest guided missiles in the game.

But that’s not all. In addition to the ADATS launchers, the vehicle will carry two unguided rocket pods. Unlike those on another Armored Warfare vehicle (MTLB S-8), these unguided rockets will be fairly accurate and will be useful for close range defense against softer targets. The basic rockets will have the following properties:
  • Penetration: 340mm (kinetic warhead, treated in the game as APFSDS – cannot be intercepted, for example, by standard APS)
  • Damage: 200
  • Capacity: 14 missiles, one fired each 0.3 seconds
  • High velocity (990 m/s)

It’s worth noting that initiating the reloading process will end with trigger a long reload that will see the entire pod worth of rockets replaced even if only one missile is missing from the rack.

Additional upgrades will be available to the most dedicated Stryker ADATS players, including:
  • Partial reload mechanism (the reloading time is reduced if not all missiles were fired) at the cost of slightly longer reload time overall
  • Another type of unguided rocket (HEI-SAP with lower 100mm penetration but higher 250 damage per shot along with a bonus chance to set the enemy on fire)
  • Reduction of the time between ADATS ATGM shots by 50 percent

In summation, the Stryker ADATS will be a very powerful long-range ATGM launcher vehicle with additional means of close range defense. Even though the unguided rockets will not be capable of dealing with high-Tier frontal MBT armor, they will be more than sufficient to keep those pesky AFVs and LTs on their toes.

We hope that you will enjoy the missions and the vehicle and will see you on the battlefield!

Offer: AFT-10, Battle Coins

Commanders!

One again, we are happy to offer you the opportunity to obtain the AFT-10 Tier 10 Tank Destroyer.

The AFT-10 is a tracked ATGM carrier based on a ZBD-04 IFV hull that carries eight massive Red Arrow-10 guided missiles. In their latest version, these modern ATGMs are capable of devastating even the most modern MBTs at extreme distances and the AFT-10 was designed to do just that – to stop enemy assaults dead in their tracks. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the AFT-10 is a Tier 10 Premium Tank Destroyer. Its massive ATGM launcher immediately draws comparison with another Tier 10 vehicle, the Kornet-EM. But where Kornet-EM is all about speed, stealth and missile ambushes, the AFT-10 is about one thing and one thing only – uncompromising firepower. It is capable of unleashing devastating missile salvos that can knock out even Tier 10 MBTs in seconds. Additionally, its missiles have a very high penetration value, which means that no matter the angle, no target is truly safe from its reach.

Between August 29 and September 5, 2019, you have the opportunity to obtain this unique vehicle from an AFT-10 Loot Crate.

This Loot Crate contains mostly AFT-10 blueprint pieces. You need to assemble one hundred of these pieces (that will appear in your Inventory upon the crate opening) to receive the AFT-10. Each crate drops one of the following items:
